Okay, I understand Sobend's post, but I'm trying to get at the movement. I mean, if the Sax was always considered a symbol of sexiness (incoming speculation), then the time period would have been the Blues movement where its most prominent, and to where today there are more and more artists/groups incorporating the saxophone in their music to "exemplify" sexiness. I want to know what sparked it in today's culture.

 

Its like I understand the concept, its that I don't understand why its being brought up again with different connotations (i.e. During Blues period, its "sexiness" = classy. Today, its sexiness needs to be exemplified through men acting as if they're sexing an instrument as they would a woman).

 

Sorry, but I kinda take a very technical approach to things since I am in the conflicted generation we've developed ourselves to be.

The Saxophone has always had a pretty good standing in pop music when compared to other wind instruments. Maybe it fell out a bit when music became a little more electronic, but just because it's coming back now doesn't necessarily mean that it's coming back because people want a sexier sound.

 

The reason why the saxophone is defined as sexy and other jazz instruments (such as the trumpet) aren't is because the saxophone is the only jazz instrument that is pretty much a jazz only instrument. Sure, the saxophone has uses in other settings such as military bands, but it is mainly noteworthy for being a jazz instrument. The trumpet is also known for orchestra pieces and fanfares, so you're not going to list that as the sexy jazz instrument. Well you could, but people seem to opt for sax for above reasons.

 

This is all speculation by me; it's not a truth more of a hypothesis. I have a mild interest in jazz.
