the fudge dude o_0

Are you implying he tried to have intercourse with a train

for all I know that train specifically was seeking me out -.-

Dude how are you alive

dunno man, all I can say is my bike helmet. (which is apparently pretty gruesome at this point, I guess I'll have to wash it off before I hang it up or anything)

found out I had a shunt in my head feel pretty cool about it

That was the tube in your picture, yeah? Going to your midsection probably?

Not entirely sure, wouldn't be surprised though. I have a 4 or 5 inch cut above my sternum on my left side that they cut through

NSFL picture of the staples on my head and the tube Synapsi's talking about. I found out I had facial reconstructive surgery!! :^)

This is confusing. Why were you crossing the tracks right when a train was barreling down? I know you don't know, but I'm guessing you saw the train was very long (102 cars apparently) and decided that you better go now instead of wait 20 minutes for the thing to pass. It's possible something got stuck in the tracks, leaving you like a deer in the headlights. Maybe it was going faster than you thought it was. I don't think you were drunk considering you were biking.

Seeing the extent of the injuries, this was a lot worse than I thought. I'm impressed you survived, hp level?

The only thing that makes sense to me is that my bike cleat somehow got stuck in the tracks (because my bike is fine, I guess I threw it away?) And I guess I was sober as I was wearing the proper gear. No real idea though, I barely remember the day and nothing of after I got hit.

"Recovering" is an overstatement...the poor kid is a vegetable with permanent brain injuries. Prayers to him and his family.

[...]

That was the information received from ER staff at the time he was admitted.

Guess the ER staff thought I was a goner

The ER staff didn't realize you've always been a vegetable with permanent brain injuries.

I played RuneScape for four years, I'm a highly sophisticated creature

I'm told I may have my mouth wired shut for another 4 weeks and that makes me positively ecstatic :^)

After a much less serious but still serious enough bike accident I couldn't eat solids for a week or something either and I still remember going back to uni with some sandwiches and thinking fudge it and going to a snackbar to eat a pack of fries and taking an half hour to eat them slowly one by one

best pack of fries ever!

so pro-tip

the first time you can go out and eat don't eat healthy!

that sounds amazing, I've been looking at stuff to eat and I think I'll be going to a gourmet mac and cheese place at some point just because I'll have to eat soft food but more likely a burger and fry place first. I was told today I've got 2-4 more weeks of liquid food :'(

also apparently I had facial reconstruction? I've got a bar on my collar bone, the bar in my right leg and I guess a ridiculous amount of titanium plates in my face

mac and cheese shown here

well all that metal in your body makes you an ideal weapons smuggler at the airport ;)

i'm told i'll be given a card to show at the airport, so now i'll just be wearing a turban at all times or something equally TSA-angering

I was told when I got put into the hospital it was under John Doe since they didn't have my name, found my dad's number on my bike's odometer and called him. Told him I got hit by a train and would likely die (not very friendly :/) and I guess I was in that state for 2 or 3 days. the ER staff apparently was under the impression I'd be "infant-like" for multiple months, glad I'm not somehow

also found out the Specialized helmet I had has kevlar strips in it. super glad about that

there the perfect new goal to be motivated to endure and get better

since you have interwebs you can start ordering your fake beard and turban already

Any permanent damage?

Left side of my face has little to no feeling (and is paralyzed) right now but I'm slowly regaining it. The facial reconstruction surgeon said there's no way to know whether it's permanent or not, but it's been getting better. Left eye can't close all the way yet, but we're hoping it'll be fixed eventually otherwise I'll need another surgery. Can't lift weights for a few months either, but I've got all my limbs and I can see out of both eyes. Thanks helmet!

jup, I think you'll need a new helmet...

hah I emailed the company and they offered me a discount

So, another picture, my face prior to facial reconstruction. Entire left side was drooping an inch. Thanks doctors for making me look less like Quasimodo. Slowly getting more movements on this side, small victories at this point :P

Do you remember any more of the day yet?

Thanks! I'm actually remembering less and less of the surrounding period :( My neurologist said that was typical but I'm pretty disappointed
