19. losing the ability to travel without a visa across europe

I only have a minor point to make to an otherwise applause-worthy post: unless the UK decides to richard (I'm totally going to steal that, btw) around with the exit process, it's highly likely that tourists will be able to get around without a visa, and possibly workers too, depends on how both sides will play their cards.

Had to try to do the censors job. I don't think the UK/EU will negotiate freedom of movement of workers, since it requires the movement of goods too. edit: i mean the other way round but you get my point

Honestly I don't think Northern Ireland is going to reunite with the rest of Ireland any time soon.

 

If Scotland decide to leave the UK, I wouldn't be surprised if NI(who mainly voted stay) would join Ireland, or get the option to join

Idk I feel like there's a lot more inertia in Northern Ireland. I don't think economics is going to be the only thing involved.

I didn't care which way the vote went. On one hand, being a part of the EU provides us with a safety net. Going independent gives us freedoms we otherwise couldn't have.

 

We would survive either way to be honest. To many people think everything is heading the way of a political apocalypse.

The uk will be fine. I don't know if Scotland will leave, but it probably would be a bad idea on their part. I really doubt northern ireland will try to reunite with other ireland. Blaming old people is silly, their ideas are just as important as yours and they often have more experience. Plus they're always more conservative, what were you expecting.

Actually, judging by the voting outcome in various areas, you have a lot more groups to blame than the Right wing. Even the Centre and the Left had substantial opposition towards the EU. For everyone looking at the United Kingdoms from the outside, you had it coming with how you practice foreign (and foreign-related domestic) politics.

 

Quite frankly, you reap what you as a people and a nation have sown.

 

Not every country is part of the EU and they survive.

 

Most countries have various agreements that cover what the European Union provides. My nation is a part of the European Free Trade Association, and as a result, we have had to incorporate a lot of the EU laws to get access to the trade market that the EU provides. You might think that it will be easy enough to survive with the European Union, but the United Kingdoms cannot be compared to the countries involved in EFTA.

The bulk of the support for the EU came from left leaning cities such as Manchester, London, Liverpool and the whole of Scotland. Labour/Lib Dems/Greens were all remain. The way we treated the EU I'd say is down to the right, such as Farage in EU Parliament or Cameron negotiating with other EU leaders.

 

The hatred of the EU stems from Blairs fiddlesticks during the Iraq war where European nations were being slaughtered in our media for, rightfully, being against the Iraq War, not being able to actually vote on joining the EU in the first place(even though I think it should be down to the politicians to decide not the uninformed public) and people wanting to be in control.There's also the whole "fudge the immigrants" attitude, but I'm not going to paint the whole of the leave side with that brush.

 

Also, our politics is fudgeed in general, however I wouldn't say that that's the sole reason why we left the EU, because this affects our domestic issues moreso. You have the media who love to spread misinformation, love a good smear campaign and who are in Murdoch's pocket. Then you have the Conservative party, who would rather see the country go to the shizzleter as long as they remain a united party. Then you have the Labour party, who don't understand what their voters want. Lib Dems shot themselves in the foot when they were in coalition with the Tories, since they became the party who took the blame for the fiddlesticks the Tories did. Greens are a bit loony and UKIP's only purpose is "leave the EU". We've become a one party state.

It's not about survival. We were the 5th(now 6th) biggest economy in the world, a lot of which was due free trade to the EU. We're in a worse off position out of the EU economically. Also, as Yuan said, countries have survived due to different trade groups they're part of, yet most of these countries aren't as big as the UK in economic strength.

Scotland remained in the UK with the promise that we remain in the EU. Sturgeon is pushing hard to keep Scotland in the EU with the backing of the Scottish people. Old people aren't getting the blame alone, however this is not their future they're fudgeing with. They've gotten the best out of every situation(free higher education, affordable house prices, easier access to jobs, welfare state etc.) and they're voting to take it away from the young generation of the country.
