  1. Hey all, As you may have noticed, Sal's went offline last month. Our server crashed after years of being unmaintained () and we had some data corruption. Unfortunately, backups of the server and data broke at some point... which would have made the process so much easier! I was eventually able to recover the community data, but needed to rebuild the server, essentially from scratch. Apparently a lot changes in 6 years for web servers, so a lot of banging-head-against-keyboard ensued until I was finally able to get things into a good state. And... here we are! Apologies for the delay in getting things back up and running. Let me know if you have any questions! Cheers, Sal

  2. Hello! I thought it was time I made an into post. I am Rolf aka 6 i r t h y. I am Rolf on discord with 6 i r t h y being my runescape iron. I assume most here know me from the discord but the cruel Adam? and Synapsi have forced my hand to post here as well. Those who don't know me, I KNOW YOU. I have absorbed the lore into my being and become the nu wave. For real, hello. I played f2p barely in like 2006 -2007. Picked OSRS back up around 2 years ago now and have a 2000 total main and a 1575 iron with a new fire cape as of today.

  3. Yes, I apologize for speaking about another "rival" fan-site on this forum, but I thought I would post anyway. A little Sunday sacrilege is fit anywhere. As you all know by now, the traditional RuneScape fan-sites started to "die" sometime around 2010 or even earlier. I will not speculate on the reasons, but it happened with every site and every community, all of which were forum-based. New players stopped joining, current users stopped playing the game, and eventually people started going elsewhere, like Reddit. To me, the issue was mainly pronounced here with the lack of people playing the game, which became low in the 2010s, despite a core of that community still existing (and still existing now). This is particularly true for Runescape 3, where maybe 15 forum users were actively playing the game by the time of release. But activity did not wane uniformly across all fan-sites, and one was just active enough to be useful for Runescape 3 -- Tip.it. When I became an RS member in 2013, Tip.it had an active community of maybe one hundred or more active Runescape 3 players. This was by no means the glory days, but people would have conversations on the game, give bossing tips, and discuss updates at length. A lot of these players were also really good at the game -- a few I am tempted to name, but I decide against doing that because they did not know me, and I thought it might be strange for them . It was a nice place to have a "traditional" fansite community feel while still finding good discussion. Even then, I knew it was an anachronistic experience. I browsed Tip.it until I started losing interest in Runescape 3 in 2016. After coming back to Runescape 3 in the COVID-19 pandemic, I noticed everyone on that site disappeared. Unlike Sals, which always kept a pulse, it seems like Tip.it evaporated relatively quickly, in 2016-2018. Now nothing is discussed. I also checked out their friends chat this morning ("sc" or HYT) and found only one person in there besides me. It looks like the site was completely offline for some time until someone started paying for the servers again. Looking at the traditional fansites as a whole, it looks like they've all died except for Sals Realm, which mainly survives through the discord and in-game clans in Runescape 3 and Old School. Perhaps some others live on in one form or another, but I can't find their communities. Perhaps the issue is that all of these fansites based their communities on forums--a long-dying communication form--and their Runescape help website--eventually outclassed by the wiki, just like how Wikipedia outclassed all encyclopedias in popularity. I'm thankful that Sals Realm persists, though as I write this I am reminded that the Runescape 3 clan has had low activity lately, possibly because the game itself is slowly declining in numbers. Even back in the 2010s when I was browsing, people on Tip.it were complaining about how low activity was on their site. Looking back at their posts, I get a feeling that they did not understand what they had at that instant, which was something. Now there is nothing. One day we may also have that feeling about Sals Realm.

  7. Sent from my phone. I had hoped to send a picture of my second 99 - Attack. Unfortunately Sal’s Blogs uploaded refuses to recognize it as an acceptable picture; so I’m instead sending a screenshot of my favorite 99 skill: Magic. Not a very exciting entry, just something neat to have something today. Most of my PvP/PKing career I was a meleer. Mostly because in F2P melee had the clear advantage, and was the preferable combat method of the masses. However when it came to P2P, things were fortunately somewhat more balanced. Every combat class had its advantages and disadvantages. There is no denying Magic was super badass, and I became quite proficient at it. I cannot claim to be any better than your average P2P PvPer when it came to Ranged or Melee, but I took pride in being really good with Magic. Good times.

  8. 99 Magic is the most useless and terrible 99 there could ever be. I am not saying that because my own 99 Magic party was interrupted by a random event taking me to a jeopardy quiz, not at all. Congratulations though. Magic is just great in P2P, although beyond using it for Clan Wars, I never got much familiarity to it. Most of my P2P PvP came from being a Barrows pure just north of Edgeville, so... it was more about the SURPRISE DHAROK TO THE FACE. Magic was effective though, as there was always a numbskull ready to Ice Blitz or Barrage when you got a win.

  9. That's definitely a better line-up of mods than I was expecting. I don't dislike a single one of them. I used to boss with B0b occasionally, and I considered Sobend a friend. Heb0 is cool too. I love Adam. We were never really in the same groups or in each-other's radars back when Sal's was active and I was around, but I have some mad respect for the guy especially now in the present. I genuinely like him. Good to see some of the least pleasant people aren't around anymore.

  17. I might have missed the forum glory days (I lurked for 4 years starting 2009) but I still feel so lucky to have even experienced what I did of the forums from 2013-2015, and it was enough to make miss them dearly once 2016 came around and a lot of the friends I’d made here started falling off one by one. I’m thankful we still have a discord, the cc and a bunch of familiar names still around from then, especially how you say all the other fansites have died completely, and is why I don’t think I’ll ever leave for another clan

  18. As of today, Danbridge has racked up over 43 million XP in fletching alone. That makes him a level 111 fletcher. He has fletched over 700k rune arrows from scratch. All sold to general Khazard in the gnome war. He also sells cannonballs to Gloughprie's army. He fuels both sides of the war for sheer profit. Hickton could not be happier with the massive sales volume Danbridge produces. The population of Gielinor is over 300 million. And only 23k players are ahead of Danbridge on fletching high scores. Danbridge is also manufacturing quality grapple for the agilists. The profit is monumental.

  19. It's sad to think that one day, I could potentially come back for my annual dose of nostalgia - and this website and forum may be gone, forever. That cannot happen. What's the current situation? I can see more advertisements appearing in an attempt to offset the server and domain costs but does it even receive the traffic to break even these days? Who renews the domain? Do we have a backup? I appreciate that if it wasn't for the current few active members, it would have probably died a death a long time ago... Does anyone still have direct contact with Salmoneus? Surely it makes sense to pass the torch to Yuan / Lilshu at this point... @Yuanrang @Adam? @Guitarguy @Sobend @lilshu @20000_Posts

  20. Bumping this a little to respond to @Fatalysm and put some thoughts out there on this topic. First off, in regards to preservation/revival of the Realm and so forth, count me in! I can offer financial assistance as well as time and creative input for anything else that may be needed. I'm available to help. Second, there is a fascinating, lively community that persists and while I've not been diving in much or been considered an active part of that I'd be down to be a part of any plans to continue developing that in the near or far future. Just let me know how I can help or where I need to be in order to be part of the conversation and I'd be ecstatic to lend any aide within my means and capabilities.

  25. I honestly don't remember Sal's Masses that much, admittedly they were some of the least interesting events to me. Doesn't mean they weren't fun, because they were, I merely wasn't much of a PvMer and always enjoyed events that made me compete more directly with others, PvP or not. So while Masses were fun, and I didn't do that badly with a maxed acccount, I still felt much like a fish out of water most of the time. Still, great times were had and we did make some fun loot. Edit: Some of these may not be from masses but just trios or duos with Sal's members. Sal's drops in any case. (In this one you can see both Doom and Sellador aka Common Sense logging in) A massive thanks to everyone who ever attended Sal's Masses or just randomly did bosses with me. You guys and gals are too many to tag here, but you're the ones who made my final days of RuneScape fun.

  27. I was mostly exposed to Macki when he was on his reign of terror on the forums and on his spin-off forum, ohiirthar. I don't remember if I actually joined or not, but all I know is that it was terrible. Macki also created a bunch of trolls that were immediately banned (which is what got him featured in dsz!!). He's also an emoji on the Discord, so his legacy lives on. I don't remember the antisemitism, but it doesn't surprise me. He fully committed to being awful and trying to make everyone legitimately angry / upset.

  28. Well I did promise I would join, time to deliver. Give me a minute to create an account, as I believe I previously explained Adam I'm unfortunately not at liberty of using my main account there due to a newbie mistake made years ago of using my real name here. I cannot have my real life information associated to that Discord.

  29. If it's worth anything I think Benn0 has actually matured a lot. It is no secret I was one of the people enforcing the rules the most when it came to Benn0 and his millions of alts, and I had a legitimate dislike for him. I am certain he'd be the first to admit he did a ton of things to deserve being disliked by me and many other staff members / DMs / chat mods etc; but I also attribute some of my dislike towards him to my younger age and lower tolerance towards people I perceived as nuisances. The last time I got to interact with him was quite some years back already. After I quit my main account and RuneScape in general, including Sal's Realm, I had a brief return to OSRS to join the clan scene and Damage Incorporated. It didn't last very long, but it was still a month or two using mostly the now deceased RuneScape Community (Zybez). During that time I got to interact with Benn0 again, who had been active for a while in RSC and had attained some sort of junior staff rank. He acknowledged he had done a ton of wrong things, and apologized maturely. By all means even if he was at fault for the things he did, he had all the rights in the world to absolutely hate me due to the manner I treated him. I have no desire whatsoever to hide that even if I had the rules, reason and the moral high ground in treating him the way I did, I was also very harsh and was never shy of being vocal about how much I despised the old Benn0. I was a very influential community member at the time, and my views certainly weighted and influenced a lot of other members who looked up to me. Thus invertedly, I made people who barely knew who Benn0 was hate him like he had committed several grave offenses towards the family of these members. Even so, Benn0 was more than happy welcoming me to RSC, chatting with me and clearing up the air between us. It would be a stretch to say we became 'friends' in the strict definition of the word, but I can say we are on good terms ever since, even if we haven't talked in years and years. He also pushed for me to get a RSC MotM award, with PKPete's help, which was actually pretty cool of him.

  30. Just wrapped up a wonderful week with @Twist of Fate (Taker25700). We visited the Great Lakes area together. Among usual tourist activities, we found some time to relax and play RS. I'll spare the mushy details, but did want to share some reflections on the power of online communities, and the bonds they create. I've been part of online communities my whole life. In the years that most of you were making content for Sal's, I was pouring my heart and soul into another forum site called RolePlayGateway.com. The community members there have continued to mean a lot to me, and a few have gotten married, become roommates, or otherwise continued creating together on or off the original website. After that period waned, I found it refreshing to come to Sal's and watch somewhat from the periphery. Sal's Realm of RuneScape brought Taker and I together the way it has brought RuneScape enjoyers (and lapsed players) together for years. As some folks may be aware, Taker was a fixture long before I joined. I joined the Friend's Chat sometime 2008-2010, and the forums in 2011-2012. I wrote unique blog content here, which I did not remember until recently! Sal's Realm was the only clan and community I ever identified with in RuneScape, and it remains that way to this day. RuneScape and Sal's have been around for so long, some of us have known each other for 10-15 years, if not more. Taker and I have been talking this year, and we were both aware of each other's existence in 2008-2011ish, but nothing too concrete. My memories of that time can be summarized as such: 1. Taker used to go by Takertree. In fact, lots of you used to have "tree" at the end of your name. Explain yourselves. 2. We talked about music - he was really into Angels & Airwaves. He also mentioned playing in bands! 3. He introduced me to the song "Fall For You" by Secondhand Serenade, a deeply sad song lol Say, did you know that Sal's Realm is home to some talented mofos? Early in January 2023, Taker was promoting the single "Unrelated Popcorn Fire" from his latest project in the Sal's Realm Discord. The music is catchy, polished, and infinitely listenable. I interviewed him about the project here: 10 Questions with the winter without. Not only was I blown away that someone from Sal's was putting out music, but it was actually good. (PS, Taker isn't the only talented Salmon promoting tunes in the Discord. Check out Army of One's The Bridge EP here: https://army-of-one.bandcamp.com/album/the-bridge-ep) One of my goals for 2023 was to commit to rediscovering my creative side through music and writing. I ended up hitting up Taker and basically asking him questions about his creative process and music journey uninterrupted for a period of several weeks. Somehow, someway, Taker was receptive to this deluge of interest, and.... here we are. :) It's been a good year for all polled Tasogaryns in the chat: I've started performing at open mics around the SF Bay Area, I'm blogging again, my novels are getting new drafts, I'm sketching, I'm writing music, I'm even getting back into mixed media art and poetry. I can attribute that in part to finding a creative partner and friend to share that process with. I'm still getting my writing chops back after a period I like to call "my orphan speedrun." Still, I hope to be writing a lot more here about RuneScape and online communities in general. You can find my personal blog at oddsoul.blog, my newsletter at chanimaya.substack.com, and on Medium at https://oddsoul.medium.com/. PSS, Taker and I have started streaming RS3 content on Twitch. You can find him at twitch.tv/taker25700, and I stream over at twitch.tv/darlene. We'll be streaming a run for Necromancy soon. It's my birthday pretty soon, and I'm getting too old to be a gamer. Still, it's nice to play RuneScape with a community of folks who are also setting goals within the game and exploring what there is to offer. Don't know what exactly the future holds, but so far I'm happy to be sharing it with someone special. Tas

  33. Hey all, I used to lurk these forums way back in the day (a little over a decade ago) and just unearthed some incredible finds! If you are old enough, you remember how absolutely bonkers everyone was over the pixel kits in the graphics place. Unfortunately, most of the image links have long been broken and forgotten to time.. however, I just found an old flash drive from my childhood that had a TON of those old pixel kits on it. I have uploaded and organized all the kits into a Google Drive folder here if you're interested in. If you happen to have any kits lying around on an old hard drive somewhere that aren't in the folder, please send me an email and I will add them. My email is listed at the end of the README in the root directory of the link above. I hope you guys enjoy. Cheers! Edit: If you hate Google Drive, I have also uploaded the .zip to the Internet Archive here.
