I shook Billy Bragg's hand... other than that i don't think so.

Puzzle That Needs To Be Solved!

Nothing to do with chess is it? :D I remember seeing something like that when researching basic computer functions, but i can't for the life of my find it again :(

    Solid State Drives

Isn't that only really true of MLC drives? Either way it's not really a con considering they'll most likely last longer than a mechanical drive would.

    Hypersonic Glider Lost Over Pacific

We just going to ignore this? The first thing i thought when i saw this was "oh, another case of the media over-dramatising things then".
  5. Is this place still open then? I'd ****ing kick off if anyone tried to do anything like that to me. Oh, and does anyone have an alternative link? I'd like to share this with some friends...

    London's Burning

Holy shizzle does everyone in London speak like that? That's Manchester - anywhere north of London and people have ridiculous accents. Or to the west. Or the south. Depends, in London you get people with perfectly normal accents, then some with insane ones then others with sickeningly posh ones (actually that last one goes for pretty much anyone in the South). Scottish accents rule, as do Geordie's but 17 years living here and i don't seem to have picked any of it up :(

    Hypersonic Glider Lost Over Pacific

But as i understand it it only gets to such speeds because it's essentially re-entering from space. And if it's designed for missiles and the like then safe retrieval wouldn't really be top of the list of priorities.

Isn't that what it's supposed to do?

    London's Burning

Army can't deal with this sort of thing. They're trained for war. Police are trained to deal with disturbances.

    London's Burning

Nobody's said that they were attacking the hospital, have they? Only that the police were defending it.

    London's Burning

There doesn't seem to be any explanation or reason or motivation coming from the direction of the rioters, but you have to agree - you can kind of understand the events leading up to it. On my phone so can't elaborate atm :(

Apparently the Guardian are reporting that the bullet found in the police radio is police issue...

    London's Burning

Well this is all kicking off now: http://thewestlondoner.wordpress.com/2011/...hamsto-brixton/ Don't know what's going on with the police either, how come they were able to get a whole army for the student protests but only a handful of barely trained riot police for this? Screams political motivation to me... but then, what is motivating these riots?

    London's Burning

Certain conspiracy theorists seem to be saying that the police may have lied about the whole thing and shot the radio afterwards to cover their tracks. With the MET's track record of late i wouldn't be completely surprised tbh...

That's one side of the story. Nobody has the full picture, hence why nobody is quick to jump to conclusions.

    London's Burning

Although to be fair you do have a hell of a lot more gun crime, which is kind of what started this all out. Read up on Operation Trident and tell me that it's not racist.

    London's Burning

Ha, i would guess it's a police helicopter. Surprised there's only one though, there were at least seven in London on the 26th March demo...

    London's Burning

I was going to post a thread, then i realized i didn't have much of a clue what was actually going on. I think this explains what this area is like - no communication between the community and the police and constant problems. Of course, the police will never declare it as a riot, because that would mean that they would foot the bill instead of the insurance companies.

    Juno

Not true, thankfully. I quote Charlie Bolden when i say "We need to have robotic missions first before we send humans". Also: "To kids who want my job, I tell them 'Be careful what you ask for!'" :D I have to say i think Obama made the right choice with him. He almost burst into tears when talking to a BBC documentary presenter about the last shuttle flight.

    Juno

Getting close to launch, so why not fufill some of our desire for space exploration? :( Juno is a NASA New Frontiers spacecraft with the primary aim of greatly increasing our understanding of the planet Jupiter, scheduled to launch atop an Atlas V 551. The launch is scheduled to take place on Friday, 5th of August at 16:34 BST (11:34 EDT), with a 59 minute window. Here is where to watch it: The new NASA TV link NASA TV in HD on UStream The Spaceflight Now link Another 1200kbps stream Mission information: Juno: Mission Overview Juno: Pretty Bloaty Flash Site There is a pre-launch news conference tomorrow, broadcast on NASA TV on Wednesday, 3rd August at 18:00 BST (13:00 EDT, Media and Education Channels). The Juno NASA Tweetup will also go ahead on the days leading up to an including the event, featuring non other than kurtjmac (PC Builder, player of Minecraft, Astronomer and general all round 'good guy') as well as 149 other people. You will be able to follow this from their twitter accounts and at NASA TV (Education Channel) on Thursday, 4th of August at 15:30 PM BST (11:30 AM EDT), repeated at 8PM BST that day (Public, HD and Education Channels). Once launched Juno will make her way directly to Jupiter for arrival sometime in 2016 where she will carry out her (Earth) year long mission during 33 orbits of the gas giant. Juno all packed up and ready to go: Hoisting Juno atop the most powerful Atlas rocket at Launch Complex 41: The assembled launch vehicle: Note that the Atlas V is currently being considered for human rating; to launch a capsule that would once again put humans in space in America's own capacity.
