    **** You Republicans

I had no idea people could possibly derive such shizzle out of their ass, but man that proved me wrong. Anyways it's a majority rule. If people want change, they should be the ones that are up there voting against this decision instead of complaining. How is it fair to have a majority vote for the rights of a minority? It's not. But that's kind of the basis of democracy. The United States is not an absolute democracy, though. One of the reasons for the constitution is to protect majority rule from violating inalienable rights, such as the right to marry.

I listened to "Aesthetica" by Liturgy the other day, per a friend's recommendation. Thought it was pretty cool.

Are genres on iTunes necessarily a fair way to judge how eclectic someone's tastes are? For one thing, I have 100-something on my iTunes, but part of that is because I have music from a lot of different places that label things differently. For example I have music labeled, "Alternative", "Alternative Rock", "Alt. Rock", "Alternative & Punk", and "Alternative/Punk". There's no stylistic difference between any of these labels, they're just slightly different wording. For another thing, the specificity of genres depends on the person. One person might have separate genres for "symphonic black metal" and "melodic black metal" while another just puts all metal under the "rock" umbrella. Anyways, I've been digging this track I used to listen to as a kid:

Doesn't seem necessary, metal seems to be what's keeping this thread alive. Right, but most of the posts about metal are just extended arguments about the merits of certain bands. I like using the music recommendations thread to find new music. It doesn't mean that people couldn't talk about metal recommendations here, it's just that arguments about Disturbed could happen somewhere else.

What if somebody just made a metal thread
  8. For longest songs, first is some Tallest Man on Earth concert I dl'ed from NPR, then a comedy show by Steven Wright. But here are my longest songs (excluding classical stuff): 1. Rush - 2112 (20:37) (sup 7th grade) 2. Can - Bel Air (19:53) 3. cLOUDDEAD - Our Name (19:41) (this doesn't exactly count because it's a pretty normal-length song followed by a lot of silence and a short hidden track at the end) 4. Yo La Tengo - Night Falls on Hoboken (17:42) 5. The Velvet Underground - Sister Ray (17:27) Longest song names, I'm not sure, but I'm guessing it's something by Sufjan Stevens or Los Campesinos... Band name: The World is a Beautiful Place And I Am No Longer Afraid to Die

Feels weird to be sticking up for dubstep, because I know some kids who listen to it and nothing else and that's annoying as hell. But why are you so damn self-righteous about music? You think you've figured the world out because you listen to Iron Maiden? I went through a phase in middle school where I dismissed any kind of music automatically that wasn't classic rock or metal, and now I feel like an idiot because my window was so narrow. There's a lot of crappy dubstep, but some of it can also be really cool. Same goes for metal or any other classification of music. Not saying that everybody should love every genre of music, but can you at least acknowledge that it's possible not to enjoy a certain kind of music at a certain point in your life without it being worthless? I don't give two shizzles and a fudge about dubstep and I think it's worthless, and like most trends in electronic music, its popularity will be completely gone in a matter of years. I'm don't have anything against people that like dubstep or any other kind of bad music, but I just have a better taste in music than them. You just kind of undercut your argument by using the word "taste". Everybody likes different music. You seem to really like Iron Maiden. I think Iron Maiden is an average, pretty uninteresting band. You would probably say similar things about the music I listen to. Nobody is right or wrong in this situation.
