  1. How long has it been? What year is it? How did I get here? This can't be right. It's 2022, this isn't how things were supposed to be. How have you been the last decade? Dragon Sal Z - Episode 42: Unfinished Business. Is this real?

  9. I have it but I struggle to ever really get going with it. The crafting system is a bit overwhelming and it seems like there's a high bar just to build an initial base and survive. I like the concept of a massive universe open sandbox, but I don't like crafting systems in basically any game. If I stick with it do you get to a point where there are fewer hoops to jump through if I just want to explore the world?
  10. I agree completely. I used a Kindle for a bit for the convenience and the legitimately great backlight. But I've moved back to either buying all of my books or, more often, requesting books through the local library network. What are three books you'd recommend to anyone who is a fan of reading generally?

  14. I imagine a guitar riff playing whenever Benn0 enters a conversation ah jeez oh man I hate accountability
  15. I don't really struggle with it; I just need a lot to actually have it taste spicy. One good part about high spice tolerance is you can actually appreciate pepper flavor more. To be clear I'm not 100% meat-free; I just cook vegetarian. I prefer plant based if I'm eating out, but if there aren't any good options or if I'm somewhere that actually specializes / does something interesting with meat, then I'll order meat. Plant based definitely gets a bad rap because meat is where most of the attention goes. Tempeh is my go-to vegetarian protein if I'm cooking for someone who is skeptical.
  16. Zammy75. He was older and took me under his wing when I first started playing. He gave me a bunch of items and would give me advice. Years later he messaged me and told me he was joining the army and he had a good time playing games with me. Never heard from him again. I still wonder what he's up to.
  17. MSG gets such a bad rap. It's freaking delicious. Love it on fried rice. Since I cook primarily vegetarian, I am pretty familiar with common "asian" spices and ingredients, primarily Indian and Korean. Cooking this way has also obliterated my spice tolerance over time, so whenever I go out to eat I have to do a little dance for the waiter to make the understand that, yes, I know that 10 is very hot and please do not make it weaker for me. Yes I understand I'm very white. Please believe me that I am a broken man and I need it to be the hottest thing you've served in this restaurant. I have lemongrass in a tube which I am sure is a sin.
  18. I love reading. Covid kind of killed my streak, but back in 2019 I accomplished my goal of reading one book every week. Not quite at that mark nowadays, but I still read a few dozen books a year. I try to be extremely eclectic and find new books by getting recommendations from people I like / respect. In no particular order: The Shadow of the Torturer by Gene Wolfe - Excellent fallen Earth sci-fi with an unreliable narrator. Gene Wolfe really lends himself to multiple readings Malazan Book of the Fallen by Steven Erikson - My favorite fantasy series. I'm not usually an "epic fantasy" guy, but Erikson is a fantastic writer who takes a lot of cues from Glen Cooke's The Black Company. The first book is a little weaker than the others, but it's still solid. I can't recommend this highly enough. A Fire Upon the Deep / A Deepness in the Sky by Vernor Vinge. Companion books that do a great job at exploring different theoretical societies populated by aliens that took completely a completely different evolutionary track than our own. Thinking Fast and Slow by Daniel Kahneman - This centers all of my thinking on economics and life generally. Punchline: humans are terrible at statistical thinking. Bullshizzle Jobs: A Theory by David Graeber - Dives into who so many of the office jobs we have feel like a performative waste of time. Atomic Habits by James Clear - I usually hate self-help books, or anything of the sort, but Clear breaks things down succinctly and "cuts through" a lot of the mental garbage. There's no messing around here, but it's on the reader to be willing to engage in true self reflection I could go on and on. I love books man.

  20. That's great to learn early on. Any particular spices / methods you find yourself going back to most often?

  22. The game is old at this point, but has anyone else enjoyed this light-hearted dating simulation? It's free on Steam and provides a few hours of high quality entertainment!
  23. I cook 100% plant based. For a while I was fully vegetarian, but now I make "exceptions" if I'm somewhere like a Brazilian steakhouse with friends. But putting aside eating out, vegetarian cooking is 1) cheap, 2) easy, and 3) delicious once you figure out what you're doing. If you want to go full frugal mode, then eating a variety of beans, grains, and vegetables will go a long way. The trick is to build out your spice cabinet and settle on a primary "base" that you can use for most meals. I put onions, celery, carrots, and garlic in most things. Then there's the whole ethical side of plant based food which people LOVE hearing about constantly from veg-heads.
