  1. Attitude? I was just letting him know he was on the right track. besides, I'm still trying. anyway, here is attempt # 3.

You can't stop a problem by punishing the victims of the crime. I've found the runescape system for dealing with boting suffers from this problem in the extreme. In my various attempts at retreiving my old account I've been constantly reffered to the wikipedia page that details your policy on banned accounts. The policy is extremely Draconian in its despencal of justice: It severely punishes the victims of a hacked account while doing little to nothing in the way of preventing future hijackings. When you ban a hijacked account, you dont succesfully stop the problem, you just force the hacker to search for a new account to prey on, while destroying the account holder's former efforts and alienating them from the rest of the runescape community. I know for a fact that I never used my account to bot, and the only way such a thing could have happened is if my account was hijacked. This unecessary punishment of a victim of, what is likely the second biggest problem in runescape (hacking of other players accounts), is scarry to say the least. A player should not be forced through the frustrating situation of having their account Hijacked, to only then find out that the people who should be helping them solve the problem have further worsened and alienated the victim by turning a blind eye to it.

Last I checked Jagex had very good systems to prevent yourself getting hijacked.

  2. As a hopeful eventual father in the probably distant future, I would want what's best for my kids. Sure, some guy might be better qualified for a job, but if I'm in a position to improve the position of my kid then I'll jump on it. Family first, random strangers later - unless my kid is a complete goosedown who doesn't deserve shizzle, but I hope I'll be a better father than that.

  3. As a non-British person I believe that I don't really have the right to an opinion on the matter, honestly.

    Why not?

It's between the Scots and the Brits. It's not my job to be involved or to think my opinion matters, as someone from the opposite side of the world.

In fact, rather than asking me why not, I'd like to ask you why you might think I have a right to an opinion on the matter?

Just because you're not directly involved doesn't mean you shouldn't try and learn about it, and by learning about it you will likely form an opinion. Whether or not your opinion has an influence is irrelevant.

Just because I'm not involved in, say, American politics, doesn't mean I don't have an opinion on the net neutrality issue there.

I mean, do you have absolutely no opinions about anything that you're not involved in? Rather than have no opinion, have an informed one - and just because you have one, doesn't mean you have go shout about it. I'm fairly sure none of the people who have contributed to this thread are actually Scottish or even British, but we can still have an interesting discussion on an event that is pretty significant, even on a global scale.

I don't know, I just felt different about this matter. I had learnt about it - if I were Scottish I would probably have voted yes to independence. I don't know how to word or describe it, but I feel like independence is a personal issue between two parties and I don't have the right to intervene regardless of the economic and social issues that arise out of it.

If it were an election or politics related, yes I would be more involved and say what I feel should happen. But independence is more than just that - it really comes down to the feelings of the Scottish people.

I'm not saying that we have the right to intervene, but that doesn't mean we don't have the right to discuss what we personally would do, and what we think will happen.

Oh yeah, there's nothing wrong with that. I feel that the difference between this and any other vote/election would be that I would normally try and sway someone to my way of thinking, but with the independence issue I would keep my opinion to myself unless someone asked it.

  4. I'm happy with my 5S, and I'm not one of those people who upgrade at every opportunity, so I haven't got it. By the time I feel like I need to upgrade, the 7 or 8 might have been released.

I must admit that it does look good, and I might have considered it if I didn't have a huge list of more important things to spend money on.

  7. I'm also ignorant when it comes to NZ politics. From what I gather, the National Party seems to be the most likely winners. Whether that's a good or bad thing, I'm not sure. :P

Well personally I think that's a bad thing. The current PM and leader of the National Party has recently been outed as a massive liar to the public, as well as cronyism among his friends and possibly allowing illegal activities by his ministers.

  8. Today's election day here, y'all. It's been a real interesting election period, as the current government (centrist-right party National) has led confidently in the polls pretty much since it was elected into power in 2008, however with scandal after scandal coming out in the government the left parties have slowly caught up in polling and now it's tight enough that they might need to form a coalition with parties they'd normally avoid like the plague.

Sadly the weather for today across the country is pretty poor, which will favour National. Hopefully they'll get kicked out, but I'm honestly doubtful.

Under the Electoral Act, it is an offence to influence a voter in any way on polling day.

This covers who they should or shouldn't vote for and statements which might influence a person to abstain from voting.

Political parties and the media are included in this, meaning news outlets must not run stories which are likely to influence voters.

Political coverage can start again when voting closes at 7pm.

    WILD ELECTION DAY WEATHER

Potentially damaging winds and heavy rain will greet voters in central areas, while everyone else would be best advised to pack to the brolly as they venture towards the polling booths.

A severe weather warning is in place for gale force winds in Manawatu, Kapiti Coast and Wairarapa, MetService said.

From late morning to mid-afternoon, gusts are likely to reach 120kmh, but could approach 140kmh about coastal Manawatu and Horowhenua.

"Wind of this strength has the potential to damage trees and power lines, lift roofs and make driving conditions hazardous for high sided vehicles," MetService said.

A heavy rain warning is in place for the Tararua Range, with peak intensities of 10 to 15mm expected from late morning to early afternoon.

From Northland through to Auckland and Bay of Plenty, morning rain could be heavy at times with the chance of thunder, but should ease to showers by late afternoon.

Thunderstorms and hail could hit the west of the North Island, with severe northwest gales also expected for Taranaki.

For Gisborne and Hawke's Bay, it will be mostly fine with a few brief showers in the middle of the day and northwest gales south of Hastings.

Wellington will have rain easing to showers by afternoon and a northwest gale switches to the south by evening.

Nelson to Fiordland will have rain lingering into the afternoon for Buller and Nelson but clearing for all other parts.

Snow could reach down to 600 metres this morning in Fiordland.

Canterbury voters should get out early, as it will be fine at first, before showers develop inland this afternoon.

There will be a southerly change reaching Christchurch tonight, bringing snow to 600 metres.

It is a similar story for Otago and Southland, with showers in the afternoon and light snow down to 500 metres this afternoon.

  9. I tried to, I'm quite pissed about it actually (was one of the reasons that led to me cancelling my subscription).

I used to have 'NZ', so when the N names were released at 1am here I stayed up to try and secure it again because I really regret changing it. They ended up not even releasing the name at all.

Bit harsh on yourself for that, you don't know how many other people were waiting, the odds of you getting a 2 digit username are extremely low, not to mention one that stands for your Country, you are battling a few sets of people who want that name, the people who live in NZ and want NZ as their name, and the people who just flatout wanted a 2 digit name. A name is not what makes you what/who you are.

Also, forgot to add you to the list :P

I don't know who was battling for the name, but the fact that Jagex didn't even release it did piss me off. I wasn't really playing for a long while anyway, and the reason I ended up cancelling my subscription was the immense difficulty of trying to reach Jagex's customer support. When I eventually used twitter, they just replied with generic answers and then ignored me.

  10. If I take into account the 'Scape Lounge and other non-poost count subforums, as well as long posts I've written like multiple guides, skill logs etc, I'd take a guess at like eighty words per post or so. That sentence was like 40 words so it's quite easy to make a large-ish post. That'd add up to like 736k words, but I wouldn't be surprised if it was closer to a million.

  11. Anybody here do Fantasy NFL? I started last season, missed out on playoffs for fiddlesticks reasons (would have won our league if I got into the playoffs) and almost the same group of mates are doing fantasy again. Also, go the pats.

  12. World 12 is a horrible idea by the way. It's great for a few people, but for everyone else the ping is somewhere between 400 and 500.

I agree that a permanent relocation is not necessary. I would suggest World 42 if you want a temporary relocation since it's the world we used before 71.

Yeah, but is ping really a problem when you get the honour of playing on an NZ world? I think not.
