Wow this is an oldie. I believe I remember this post from nearly twenty years ago.

Indeed! It's very old, and one of the things that back in the day inspired me to begin clanning. I created a clan after reading this. It was named Mayhem Knights and we never amounted to much, we had like 7-10 guys and our only official mini (full out) war was a win when we outnumbered the other clan 5-2. 😄
Funnily enough the other clan was led by Danthewelshy, who would become somewhat well known in the Sals Clan Section.

  2. I hold no grudge towards you or even PinkyTM who used to be a bit worse than you. I know you were both very young, even more so than teenage me. And exactly like you said, it was easy to lose control especially when as kids we have the tendency not to understand the consequences of some of our actions.
Kids bicker, kids fight. That's normal, and that's only what most of you were guilty of.

It's harder for me at least to forgive worse attitudes like Macki's. He didn't just fight and bicker, he bullied. And he bullied resorting to racism, discrimination, he impersonated others and made things very personal. His behavior wasn't that of a kid, it was almost criminal like. It was objectively speaking criminal in some instances, especially when it came to impersonating others to cause real damage to their reputation, and what you yourself brought up: sharing pornographic material with impressionable underage barely teens.

I'm not sure if he's just legitimately an awful person or if it was a matter of education or lack of proper parental figures, all I can say is that I really do hope he has changed for the better after all these years, and improved himself as a person.

Sal's will die when we are all dead, and our fond memories are truly forgotten by anyone who cared to hear about them. We will live on for decades still.

The people you banned will pass their bitterness to their descendants. Sal's will never die as long as the lineage of your victims endures.

99 Magic is the most useless and terrible 99 there could ever be. I am not saying that because my own 99 Magic party was interrupted by a random event taking me to a jeopardy quiz, not at all. :censored:

Congratulations though. Magic is just great in P2P, although beyond using it for Clan Wars, I never got much familiarity to it. Most of my P2P PvP came from being a Barrows pure just north of Edgeville, so... it was more about the SURPRISE DHAROK TO THE FACE. Magic was effective though, as there was always a numbskull ready to Ice Blitz or Barrage when you got a win.

How long ago was that even?

All I recall from being a newbie here was you being already maxed. By the time I got 99 you must have had it for years and years.

Magic was brilliant in P2P. Became even better with EoC, when most weaknesses Magic suffered from got some fixes. I was never much into P2P combat in a PKing sense, but for all other forms of safe PvP I did rock Magic.

They are releasing necromancy next month — you in?!

I thought about playing again, but if I were ever to do so - in my super limited time - I’d still probably prefer OSRS for the nostalgia feel.

But then I always think of how insane it would be to have to do everything again from scratch, and what ultimate goal is even have? I assume clanning is still dead and buried, sadly.

Do you remember that time Sals went against some clan in 2012? I can't remember the name of the clan but it was Sals versus someone in the summer of 2012. It was the last time I tanked, and it took me three-four minutes to reconfigure myself after my five years of inactivity. After that, I re-learned again, and they piled someone else once they learned I had slight knowledge of this art (and--by the way--I was out of food :p when they went after someone else).

I was actually surprised it went as well as it did, considering we had so many mismatched levels and inexperienced people.

This was a good one. I wished I didn’t quit clanning so soon.

I wish I had taken it more seriously, and invested more time being part of it when the fun rivalries and crash wars were happening.

Instead I mostly sat in the sidelines blissfully unaware these were the final golden days of the clan world.

When I finally tried the big leagues (EoS, DI), RS3 was in place and old school was nothing but a shadow of the clan world’s former glory.

Easily the most memorable RuneScape event for me. I didn't realize Jagex had an event commemorating this tragedy. For shame!

Also it's extremely on-brand for me to have an obvious typo in the post you shared.

Good times! I remember being online on Sal’s as it was happening, during an IT class at school.

I’ve stopped caring about my typos a long time ago. I’ve realized I’ll never been able to catch them all. Whenever I find one I’ll still try and correct it, but I no longer obsess over it.

But I used to. A LOT.

Honestly the CC is popping right now.

Use runelite, use the optimal quest guide helper.

Set yourself a goal of 24 hours to see how far you can get.

I reckon you'll be surprised at far you get.

    I'll even fund you 10m.

These are my stats after 576 hours, i've got like 5 quests left to complete for the cape.

The link leads nowhere to me. But yeah I appreciate the incentive Fatalysm, but my desire to play is long gone. Like I said it'd require a miracle like these forums reviving for me to even consider coming back.
I'm happy to know you made your way back and are having fun though.

One way to look at it is that in F2P, the more skilled player always win, because (at least when I played), you knew how to manipulate certain things, such as getting the max out of your prayer points, to ensuring basic hit manipulation, to having certain items in your inventory to help.

P2P had that aspect of... you can do everything right, trash your opponent, and then suddenly they will whip out a series of DD(P++) hits blessed by RNG Jesus, and then while you are chaotically spamming your food, you see that massive Greataxe come out, and the big damage bubble flash over your body as your healthbar mysteriously turn completely red.

Was it frustrating? Hell yeah, but landing those blows? Pure fun.

Basically, F2P was your technical wrestlers like Bryan Danielson, Brett Hart or Kurt Angle. Fantastic skill required, but easily overshadowed by the Juggernauts. Especially if you have a fetish for the huge mountains of muscle like a certain former CEO had.

F2P PvP was super fun, but at least when I did F2P, it was very unrewarding as to what you got from it. In P2P, you could at least get rich off it.

    Hahaha that's a perfect analogy!
    Spot on!
Ultimately most people simply ignored and/or dismissed F2P PKing as pointless, especially those with little knowledge about PvP. And it's understandable, who cares about watching extremely talented performers in a 2nd or 3rd rate show, when you can watch the big mountains of muscles lifting 100 kilos of meat above their heads with better titles at stake and shinier gear?
P2P was the big leagues, but F2P was fun too and that's all what matters.

Last I saw of Sal, he was in the 80ies, but... I mean, Micael certainly was higher than his level on those pictures. :xd:

I wonder if Sal ever made it to level 90.
And yup, I was maxed combat, or at least was passed as maxed combat in 2013. I legit have no clue if they introduced more levels or skills.

I'm glad you said it, i've been looking at this post for a while thinking....I swear Sal is levelled on Runescape.

You should all come back so we can do more of this stuff.

Ah I wish that was possible. I am aware it's against the RuneScape rules, so maybe I shouldn't have done it... but it just felt like such a gigantic waste to never use a perfectly fine account again and the result of over a decade of dedicated gaming. I gave it away to an online friend a long time ago. I haven't had contact with him in forever, but even if I had it just wouldn't feel right to get it back now (assuming he didn't get the account banned or something of the sort) or recovering it - again assuming I could even recover it to begin with, I remember next to nothing about it. For all purposes it's no longer mine, regardless of the moral validity of what I did when I gave it away.
To play again I'd have to start from zero, and I really do lack the motivation. Sal's suddenly being revived with a burst of activity and going back to the levels of 2006 is literally the only thing that could bring me back to the game at this point, in a new account.

I think it depends a lot on how you see it, really. I think F2P PvP was massively superior in groups, but if you were a solo player, P2P pvp was absolutely the superior experience. I think the greatest kick I have ever had was capping defence at 70. Having the full Dharok combo shred someone out of thin air, knowing a single mistake makes you lose a few millions, was a really great rush. I am not sure if it needed more skill, but it certainly needed more composure and being able to swap fast and accurately, and handle pressure.

Plus, you know, the value were higher in P2P and I loved earning gold through combat since, truthfully, skilling was not for me.

That is a more than valid point! You did illustrate well what I meant though, as Dharok's PKing was a prime example of it. It did require quick and accurate swaps, but fights were usually over in a matter of seconds and heavily dependant on you hitting these sweet 50+ hits.
F2P on the other hand didn't have such high sweet hits, thus making fights slower and requiring a lot more strategy. You'd have to change combat styles all the time, plan when to use your limited prayer, and spend a considerable amount of time (often minutes) doing swaps that too required timing and accuracy, even if ultimately less... decisive.
We could use (fake) Wrestling (WWE-esque) as a comparison: P2P were these big, destructive guys like Triple H, Brock Lesnar or The Undertaker. Usually quick and hard hitting fights where all what matters was how hard you hit. F2P would be the smaller, more technical wrestler fights where you won't be seeing any big hits or feats of strength, and instead a more methodical dance anyone can win, requiring more strategy and planning, and less "EAT MY STEROIDS FUELLED GREATAXE NOOB".

Man, I miss good and entertaining Castle Wars games. I have such good memories of them with a friend of mine, that it made me sad to be nostalgic about it.

Òne thing though... why are the levels so low? Did some update crunch the combat levels in Castle Wars or something?

Ah you're not going crazy Yuan, you're just missing the context of the event. It is Old School RuneScape, but the actual Old School version of it and not the 'Old School' days aka RuneScape 2. Most participants did not play Old School RuneScape but EoC RuneScape aka RuneScape 3, and thus our Old School levels were super duper low.

I am really enjoying the nostalgic journey you're taking us on with your blog.

Cheers Adam. I have a ton of stuff to share that I've found in a drive of an old laptop. Sadly most of the really old stuff was lost, but still got heaps of things.
Some will surely be boring or uninteresting, and sadly most will be focused on my character and experience. I wish I had saved more community focused stuff rather than just "Micael stuff".
I want to post something new everyday, for old time's sake, even if you're the only faithful Sal's member checking.

  15. We're all growing up. I'm very happy to see life is treating another old member of the community so well.
We've never really talked much I believe, but I remember you and seeing you post here feels very nostalgic.
Don't feel scared of interacting with Sal's Realm members in real life. I still keep contact with plenty on Facebook. I've grew to view them as more than just old community friends, but actual real life friends too.
