  1. In memory of the original MRT that Rufus created, I decided to bring a new one to life. If not because it was my favourite thread, then because it was hugely popular and I don't know how it died. Come here to recommend music, to discover new music, to find music similar to music you already like or to just talk music. You're welcome to discuss anything about music here. So go nuts. I guess I'll begin... I bought the new Knife album yesterday. It's an opera based on Darwin's "On The Origin Of Species". It's like absolutely nothing I've ever heard. Like Philip Glass and Steve Reich had a baby with Fever Ray and the baby wrote an opera. It's called "Tomorrow, In A Year" and I urge everyone to listen to the track "Colouring of Pigeons". December 2012 Update: I'm totally pleased this thread is going strong after about two and a half years. However, I just need to sharpen up the rules to keep this thread the way I intended it to be. It seems the thread is slightly slipping into a succession of posts that contain just embedded YouTube videos with little or no information. Pages filled head to toe with these videos can cause a little trouble for those of us with less desirable internet providers. Please also remember this is the Music Recommendations Thread, you should be making recommendations. Don't just post your new favourite song and leave. Let us know what the genre is, who it sounds like and what kind of people you think would enjoy it. Also feel free to ask if anyone can suggest music for you that sound similar. This is not a What Are You Listening To? thread, it's for people to help people who are looking for new music and to recommend music you are listening to in an effective way. So, here are two simple rules to keep things in the true spirit of this thread. If you are posting music and not asking for a recommendation then... 1. Include with your recommendation a description of the music (genre, style, similar artists) and who you recommend it to specifically. 2. Do not embed videos, simply provide links to them. This will keep the pages from being too clogged up. Thank you, music lovers.

My new single is OWT NAO.

Hello nerds. I'm just stopping by to let you know (and by "you" I mean "those of you whom, from my time here, I happen to know enjoy a slice of downtempo EDM every now and again") that I have a new double single out. You can listen to and buy it here. You can listen to and share it here. You can watch the videos here and here. You can show your support/keep up to date with my goings on here. Lots of love, Hyrax P.S. Good to see the ol' MRT is still going strong. You guys are rad.
  5. HELLO. I thought I'd swing by to formally bow out of this forum. I'm way too busy these days and I've had to be ruthless in selecting what to assign to my limited recreational time. Many thanks to all the creeps in the Entertainment thread, where I spent most of my time. Particularly, the regular contributor's to the Music Recommendations Thread. Also, thanks to those few Debate Room nerds who engaged in genuine argument in the interest of progressive discussion. Props to Jack-Nicholson and Whitey for being rad. I may find myself coming back once in a while, but for practical reasons, this is THE END of Mr. Grieves / Hyrax. If you want to stay in touch then find me on Facebook here. Please let me know who you are, otherwise I may not accept you. And if you want to keep up with my electronic music stuff, you can get news here and listen to it here. I've got some other projects coming up, but I'll probably mention those on the I Am a Car Facebook page. WELL, I think that's that.

I'm going to swing down to Manchester to see him. He usually comes to Leeds but he's not this year. Hope it's not something to do with the fact that last time he played in Leeds he spent the night at my house eating ice pops. No way True story. We met him and the flute player in this bar because he couldn't find the club where his afterparty was. We told him that the club he was looking for was a hellhole (which it is) so he came back to mine for drinks and customary ice pops.

    2013 Academy Awards

Yeah, I think "Amour" is there as the token non-mainstream movie. Although, for Haneke, it is relatively mainstream. Still, I don't think people who care about real cinema take the Oscars too seriously, at least not when compared to the international film festival awards. Agreed.

I'm suprised that "The Master" isn't up for Best Picture.
  20. It worked! I have beautiful, beautiful sound. You are my hero and I am eternally grateful. Please send me a photo of your face so I can have it tattooed onto my buttock out of appreciation.
  21. I believe it is a dedicated soundcard. It's a Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme Audio by Creative. I've tried restarting and that didn't work. I tried different headphones and they didn't work. I also tried the original headphones on my MP3 player and they worked fine there.
