  1. Vera was the whole "fake girl" debacle, right? So long ago, but I think she made my sig in her Shop O' Irony. But let's see: Doddsy/Audioworm Morte Flummoxer (He changed names a few times) Cow Queen Lethal Edit: Oh! And how could I forget Redmonke?!

    Sals Minecraft Topic

Me, if I stay here and watch. Also, any tips on finding cool ore and mining in general? Mine below level 16 (hit f3 and check the x coordinate [i think it's x, minecraft doesnt use normal axis letters], good ores are found down there along with regular iron & coal. Also, some consider this cheating, but there's a trick where you drop 2 blocks of sand or gravel on the square next to you (you need to be hanging over to that squaee as much as possible, but majority should not be on it or you'll get crushed, try poiting your crosshairs all the way down to see where your feet are exactly), which allows you to see through walls so you can find unlit underground caverns and dungeons. There are videos showing how too.

    Television & Movies Discussion Thread

One movie of his that I have never heard mentioned by anyone else is Following. It's definitely a little weird, but I thoroughly enjoyed it, and it has the same kind of crazy plot twist Nolan is known for. And it's Netflix instant! This makes me feel like going back and attempting to watch it again. The beginning with the apes was so awesome. The cinematography was amazing and I thought it was great to see the development of tools and see how far we've come. The movie is slow, but I just thought it was great. The effects were spectacular for the 60s, tbh they were way better than A New Hope's. The space travel is just 20 minutes of a psychidelic trip, and then the last bit of real footage is just weird. You get it, but you don't.

    Music Recommendations Thread

First of all, check out La Blogotheque's youtube series A Take Away Show. They literally have hundreds of videos of famous indie bands playing live in odd places all over France. I'm sure several of these have been listed before, but I haven't recently, so no way of knowing: (Pretty folky with some indie and country influence) The Tallest Man On Eath (A must for Dylan fans, along with music fans in general) Liz Janes (Pretty soulful female vocalist) (Whole new album is excellent) Also been listening to Wilco (mostly Hotel Yankee Foxtrot) and Bon Iver a lot more, despite them having no fresh stuff.

Want A Gaming Desktop For Under $1200

    That isn't nearly the value he could be getting. By no means take this as a final build, but try: CPU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...3-849-_-Product - $200 RAM: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16820231323 - $90 (this was $200 when I bought 8 months ago :P) GPU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16814102909 - $210 HDD: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16822136073 - $40 Mobo: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16813128443 - $105 Case: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16811129042 - $60 PSU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16817139005 - $70 Monitor: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16824236049 - $210 Thermal compound: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...0-014-_-Product - $5 Supplied heatsink should be more than enough, and if you want to OC later it's a cheap upgrade. And that's a fair amount better than Satan's build, for $990 :(

GT5 > LBP2 > Everything else (Which I won't be buying) I was going to pick up the Move, but I'll wait till spring since SOCOM was delayed. And on the note of Black Ops, although I dislike COD, I applaud the quality of Treyarch's work. Who knows, with Infinitey Ward in shambles, with Treyarch be the new favorite dev?
  13. Excuse me for the badly arranged post, but I don't quite have time to write an essay atm. I've posted this on another forum, but would also like to hear from my own lovely community About two years ago I put together a nice build with help from another forum. Long story short, my 4gb ram got cut to 2gb and I got stuck with a shoddy intel mobo. My next problem was being not too intelligent I was encoding 1080p mkv movies to my PS3 in a more friendly format on the fly--and in the process practically killed my CPU. It now rums for about an hour until it gets too stressed, and then shuts down. On boot, it tells me it detected a CPU thermal trip. Anyway, I'm taking advantage of this situation to do a major revamp. Specs: 400W Seasonic, 500GB HDD, Antec 300, 22" Asus lcd, windows license, mouse and keyboard, DVD RW drive, and these http://valid.canardpc.com/show_oc.php?id=543246 (And sorry about ugly links, the bbcode is being strange) So first of all, I will be doing little to no gaming on this (just maybe a little portal or hl2 once in a while). I want this computer to be fast, mainly a downloading/media hub, with a big job on encoding/converting media asap. From my basic knowledge I assume my current graphics card will be able to handle my needs pretty well, and I'll be looking at a cpu/ram upgrade, which I assume will be greatly benefitted by a new mobo. I was also considering running my OS (and applications?) off of a small SSD, and taking advantage of my 1TB external drive. btw, I'm in the US and would prefer Newegg. Thanks you very much in advance! Also, anyone want to just take a wild guess at how much it would be to run 3D to my HDTV? I've been told my tv is compatible with some computer 3D solution. Oh! And one last bit, of info! A family member is paying for have of the CPU, so go all out on that.

    ~$400 Cpu-centered Upgrade

I have an 3850-512, so how would things run (low, med, high) on specific games/generations? i.e. HL2, COD4, Fallout 3, Crysis Edit: And so you're saying leave the clocks alone until I can invest some money in a better psu and heatsink?

Keep Getting Signed Out Of Psn!

Do you have a wired or wireless connection? Do any other computers around house have this problem?
  16. If you can't find a model number, can you give us laptop model?

    ~$400 Cpu-centered Upgrade

Okay, I'll go for that MSI board combo. Now, a couple (Hopefully) final questions: - Are you sure my PSU can handle it all? - Is the stock heatsink good enough? - With this setup and my half decent gfx card, any guess what the best gaming performance I can get is? Thanks!

    ~$400 Cpu-centered Upgrade

Sweet, just did some math and my budget is now $500! It looks like that gives me enough room for those 2x4 sticks, so do you still recommend that as the best value? And I was looking at the main other option for the the motherboard which is a bit more expensive, but looking at comments seemed worth it. How does it compare? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16813131647

    ~$400 Cpu-centered Upgrade

I understood the RAM/CPU > SSD upgrade, but I got the impression from an earlier post that you were saying the Phenom II was harder to overclock around 3Ghz, but may have misinterpretted. And I mentioned it earlier, but would going up to 6GB be the next small upgrade?

    New In-ear Headphones

I just played my library for 50 hours (Some say 100 is true burn in, but I'm not that dedicated) at a little hugher volume than usual, and just left it under my pillow when I wasn't using it.

    New In-ear Headphones

Yeah, I just got some S4s earlier this month and love them, but before you use them a lot you should burn them in-- it really made a world of difference for me.

    ~$400 Cpu-centered Upgrade

First of all, sorry for the late reply-- I was away for the week. Picking up from where we were, I looked around at the stuff you mentioned and decided on the AMD setup (USB 3.0 support was a big bonus for me). But you did leave some cautionary advice about the processor, so I was wondering that if the AMD ended up being too "finicky" at 3Ghz could I just clock it down a bit and and have an easier time until I get better? Oh, and my purchase atm: MSI 870 Mobo - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...0-275-_-Product - $90 (Free shipping) G.SKILL 2x2GB SDRAM - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16820231277 - $90 (Free shipping) Phenom II X6 1055T - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...3-851-_-Product - $200 (Free shipping) Any problems/room for improvement? And if I had about another $50 to spare should I go for another 2GB stick?

    ~$400 Cpu-centered Upgrade

I'd like to stay on the safe side as much as possible side with OCing, since this will become the family computer which needs to be dependable 99% of the time. Also, would a SSD be a practical investment if I were able to add to the budget a bit?

    ~$400 Cpu-centered Upgrade

If you're guess is correct I'll be so embarrassed... I have.some artic silver applied and a ton of fans, so But regardless of it's current condition, where would $400 be best invested at the moment?
