There were too few people active for it to be worth keeping. Really, it's no big deal. We can keep doing what we were doing, and now we have a crowd of sorts too. Our disappointment was only fueled by nostalgia, really. True, although maybe they should just go ahead and merge everything into one forum for activity's sake. :P @Fatalysm, we've got to defend the graphics area! The Graphic's Area has too much merit as a forum for that. There are truly great things in there. :) I'm really counting on people digging up old RPs I may have skimmed over.

It's nice to see you! I've only started browsing the forums again myself.

To reiterate, in case the ridiculous comparaison to mafia comes up: role-playing is, for most of us, a big writing experiment. We're not playing a game, we're writing. Likewise, mafia is a very interesting social experiment. I'm not trying to detract from it; it's just not what we do. When I'm RPing, I'm writing. I'm not pretending to be someone else, I'm just writing another character. I'm working with another writer to advance the plot, and help each-other with our writing and creativity. If A Song of Ice and Fire had been written by multiple authors, each assuming exclusive control over one character, would it have any less merit as literature?
-
Sure, but what about people that are not roleplaying in such theoretical aforementioned roleplay? Ummm what? I don't understand the question. What aforementioned roleplay? He's saying that our stories will be lost to people who would simply like to read them. At the core, most of us role-play out of love of writing. It's a giant writing exercise for me, not a game. We're writing a story where, generally, one writer writes from the point of view of one character. If A Song of Ice and Fire had been written by multiple authors, each assuming exclusive control over one character, would it have any less merit as literature?
-
Thank you for that!
-
The problem with that is that eventually our stories become lost in a sea of spam. I enjoyed having a separate forum for role-playing; all of our stories were archived. I regret not saving any of it, most of my first writing was there.

Here's your account you made almost exactly a year ago. And hadn't checked back since, apparently. Thanks! Can anyone clue me in on what's going on with the role-playing situation here?

I came back to RP, and realized my worst fear happened when I saw-- well, didn't see, The Role-Player's Room. However small the role-player community may be, to cater them with simply keeping a subforum that's already there (ie, doing nothing) isn't that big of a deal. The perceived low activity or the 'validity' of the posts there affect no-one but the RPers, don't they? Click This, what was the name of that website you joined? I just noticed your signature.

I'd be interested in making a good fantasy RP here.

Dutch government seeks to let law enforcement hack foreign computers

I agree, however I can't help but feel sympathetic towards a woman who now has to deal with the pictures, which will undoubtedly go viral. It's her own fault, I know, but I think the student deserves some form of punishment. Losing your job and never being able to teach again? Sure. But this goes much further. Agreed. She brought this upon herself by having sex with a minor but I do feel bad for her. It's not so much the consensual sex with a minor that bothers me, but the fact that she was the boy's teacher. It's a very serious breach of ethics, comparable to a psychologist having sex with a patient (comparable, mind you, but arguably a less severe offense.)

Blind man Tasered as police mistake white stick for Samurai sword
Aliath replied to Bwauder's topic in Breaking News
Do people not understand that tasers are very dangerous and to be used sparingly? That old man is lucky to not have suffered any permanent damage (Hell, he could have died.) -
Hence, since economic power is ultimately political power, inheritance shouldn't exist... Let's not open that can of worms. Oh, come on, it's the debate room and you're going to deprive me of an occasion to stir up an epic flame war? Note to self: add reason #1442 to wage war against theking(heh)1322 It does _represent_ the country, though. But there's a distinction to be made between representation and private ownership. >.>
-
Hence, since economic power is ultimately political power, inheritance shouldn't exist... I'm not sure if you're being serious, or if you're arguing against me. I am against private property. Either way, I do take issue with what you just said. A head of state is not the owner of the country. The Queen is not the owner of Great Britain, it is not her private property. Which, of course, her children won't inherit. Shouldn't inherit.

Have you ever Raised Money for a Charity or an Organazation?
Aliath replied to Make Max GP's topic in General Chat
I volunteered for 40 hours, although it was for school, and I collected money and subsequently shaved my head for Leucan, a cancer research charity. It was really fun, and I highly recommend it! -
I agree with you. The British monarchy, no matter how profitable it may be, is wrong in principle. To add to what theking1322 said, I believe hereditary political power of any form is just plain wrong and the British monarchy represents hundreds of years of oppression and slavery by the British Empire. It is false that the British monarchy is powerless.

You haven't lived until you've achieved at least 91 fishing. But, still, I'm saddened by this... We've the exact same playing history.

Canada closes Iranian embassy and expels all diplomats
Aliath replied to Leo's topic in Breaking News
The Iranian people have no real way of doing that. Iran is a developed nation for the most part. It's not like the mostly unarmed populace is going to do much. It's also a faux democracy. The president of Iran may be elected by the people but if he doesn't fall in line with the Islamic council than he doesn't serve. War with Iran will ravage that country, and the Iranian people will not thank us for it. This is just us isolating Iran, waiting for an excuse to strike. Left on their own, they could eventually get what they want. I know a great many of Iranians dislike the regime-- but for every dissident there's a supporter of that government. We can't impose democracy. -
Leaked video shows Romney dismissing 47% of Americans

You're right! The citizens have that responsibility, not the government. The government doesn't have a responsibility to us? -

This isn't about proving if our society is compassionate or not, it's about not letting some guy who's down on his luck go to bed hungry because he lost his job or has trouble adapting to our very, very harsh way of life. Our way of life isn't normal. Millions of people just can't adapt, and end up dead or in the streets. It's unnatural and disgusting. You can lose your means of subsistence, health care, etc. just because the company you work for wants to stay "competitive." So let's stop yelling personal responsibility and how the ultra-rich do so much for us. We all have a responsibility to each-other.
