As auspicious starts to quests go, this wasn't one of them. I couldn't find Tzhaar City, let alone the place where it all began! After 5 years running around Gielinor, I thought I was good. I grabbed my adze and gloried to Musa Point; skipped off to the boulder with a rope on it; then stood there like a lemon. I remember when all of this used to lead to a place with 1970s disco decor. I kept staring, waiting for the entrance to reappear. When it didn't, I explored all around the area. There was something called The Raptor over the other side of the lava, who congratulated me on killing Nomad. Another bad omen, especially since he followed that with telling me that he's still a better fighter than me. Ok. There are noobs running around Lumbridge who are better fighters than me! It's no big deal. I wandered off down through the mysterious wall and nearly ended up in with Elvarg (I'm sure he used to be bigger). I had covered all of Candor Island, before deciding that I must be blind and returning back to where Tzhaar is supposed to be. It still wasn't there. I swear I wasn't going mad. Insofar as you can know these things anyway. >.> In the end I gave up, gloried back to Edgeville and used the fairy ring to get into Tzhaar itself. Win! That worked! But I was so curious to know where we were now. I ran straight across through the exit. But it wasn't the exit was it? It was the Fight Caves. I stood frozen in the centre of the room, as the countdown to Jad began. "............!!" I muttered something along the lines of 'whoopsie daisy me' and fled for my life. Fortunately, you are allowed to just leave these days. You don't have to wait for something to kill you. Nothing in Tzhaar City looks the same any more. I did a lot of running around, admiring the pretty new graphics, without so much as a sniff of the exit. I finally admitted defeat and looked at the map. Tzhaar had grown somewhat. Great! Now where is 'here' precisely? I deduced, after some experimentation, that the door with the green arrow was the way out. I strolled over there, still intensely curious as to where I'd come out. Were we still even in Karamja? I recalled talk of something interesting happening south of Oo'glog, though, in retrospect, that could have been the clay for flasks, rather than a relocation for Tzhaar. Eventually, I stepped blinking out of the volcano city and was a little stumped by where I emerged. Welcome to Tzhaar City! Home of Lava and Rocks! Yep! It was about five yards from where I entered in the first place. Those were the rocks that we've always climbed down from; the door just moved upstairs. Hurrah! Quest Over! Of course, there was still that secondary quest laid on by Jagex. The one where the awards were slightly more substantial than simply finding your way around your own 'hood. We won't go into the length of time it took me to find the dude to speak to about that. Let's just say that more lost happened, followed by some found. I never look at quest guides before embarking on an adventure. I review the tab telling me what to take, because I hate stopping mid-quest to go and collect a potato or whatever, but that's about it. As you can tell by my apparel, I was expecting a mining quest. I think my mind just blanked the bit nudging me towards packing some fighting gear too. That was a pity, because the vast majority of this quest was all about combat. I should have hated it accordingly, but I didn't. In fact, this is one of the better quests in-game. It started with a birth. Unusually for such a happy event, it wasn't so much towels and hot water, but launching mage attacks at an egg. I fortunately pwnt as a midwife, so that part was over quickly. The cutest little baby rock stood in front of us! His name was Ga'al and we became immediate friends. Unfortunately, he spent all of this first hours trying not to get killed. I think I've found the key to not being scared in combat. Give me a baby rock to protect and I'll take on all comers! Like a boss! Two noobs who'd better be expecting Social Services on their back, pronto! You wouldn't believe what they consider to be acceptable childcare! First I was sent into the Fight Pits, along with some Tzhaars and (fake) players. They were all trying to kill two babies in the middle, but I had my armour on by now. My whip and I basically pwnt anyone still standing, then finished with a rant at the dudes setting this up. I didn't like the answer much either. After that bout of extreme baby-sitting, there was more. The rest of the quest was largely moving from one room to another, killing anything that tried to hurt me or Ga'al. There was nothing that caused me too much trouble. I was wearing my penance torso, dragon skirt, dragon boots, shield with a face on it, Hati gloves, glory, Neitiznot hat and Ardy cloak. There was no familiar, as Ga'al counted as that. In my bag was a super-set and prayer potions, my adze, Enhanced Excalibur, crystal bow, the quest tokkul and then just sharks. It's a bit like SuperMario, in that when you've cleared a room, you hit a checkpoint. Thereon, you can leave without having to do that room again. I did leave a couple of times, once to replenish panic sharks and once to retrieve the rest of the tokkul, which I'd banked like a noob. There was some sneaky maths in the middle, but I survived that too without much difficulty. Apparently the answers are different for everybody (I've just checked on the Wiki to see), so I won't bother telling you my solution. We arrived at the kiln quite quickly and this turned out to be the grand finale fight. It's a bit like going up against Jad, in that you have seven waves of things trying to kill you and your baby. It only took me two attempts because I got cocky the first time. I made it to wave 6/7 way too easily, so didn't bother messing around with strategy there. That was an error, as it turned out that the mage had a melee attack too, so standing on him with protect mage didn't do my hitpoints much good. You just end up at the beginning with all of your stuff. The second attempt was still quite easy for me. I was very proud of how I used the terrain. I doubt that the likes of Zach, Josh and Gri3f could have done better. "Get away from him you b*****!" There was a T shaped wall, up in the North-West corner, which I discovered by accident. It turned out to be a brilliant place to run around trapping things. Since I'd taken a bow with me, I could default to my favourite combat mode and range creatures in perfect safety. Also, that taller wall, in the middle, will shield you from the mage and range attacks. The smaller walls won't. As far as possible, I stayed there for all seven waves, or lured creatures back there. Another tip I have is that the Champion hardly gets damaged by range. You have to pull your whip back out. I recommend praying mage for most of these waves, as that was what caused the most damage on me; unless, of course, you're positive that every mage is dead (there are sometimes more hiding) and it makes more sense to pray something else. And the thing that ranges you died more quickly under my whip than my crystal bow. Once the waves are over, then so is all of the scariness. This is the point when you can breathe a sigh of relief and just enjoy the rest. They grow up so fast... There are some lovely graphics, and a poignant story-line, towards the end. I naturally fought for my Ga'al all of the way. We'd so bonded! More toddler pictures. How cute is he? (Just say 'awwww'. > : ( ) He can say my name now! I had a lovely surprise when it was all over too. I'd vaguely remembered Daz Rhyfelwr saying something about double rewards, if you completed the quest before February 29th. However, I hadn't really taken in what that meant in reality. I was rejoicing over the normal rewards, when I spotted the Early Bird Tome. I got them all again!
