Caution: rated 15 for language. Music and video carefully blended for max impact. Take a look at my theoretical discussion of the Squeal of Fortune on General Discussion, because I want to hear what you think about the squeal in that, entirely theoretical, situation.

AssCreed: Liberty given by the ass...ass...ins trailer break down
Helm Lardar posted a blog entry in Helm Lardar's blog:
Good evening. Let's annotate the E3 Assassins creed trailer. I need give no reason. First shot is of some British forces, looking suave, invading America while the civilians rise up to defend (erm). It's a pretty small force to take over the whole country, but okay. Clearly the gentleman on the horse is the villain. American eagle looks on, sad at the loss of life, shown by the sad music. Both symbolic of America and its glorious values and also Connor, the brutal Indo-Brit assassin. There are a few more British soldiers, marching around the guy on the horse. Pretty sure he'd be in sniping distance, if there were good rifles around at the time. "I watched them fight, and die, in the name of freedom. They spoke of liberty and justice (is that a crow? lunchtime!), but for who?" Well, clearly not black people. Or Native Americans. Or British people (though strictly speaking war of independence is a war of British American rulers against German Royalty, the hanovers, but that's by the by). Hang on, isn't Connor on the wrong side? Eagle flies poignantly through some trees (yeah, why the sad music?), and then TURNS INTO AN ASSASSIN. Please, please, please put that in the game. It'd be a fun way to get around, apart from anything else. Assassin's pushing revolutionaries out of the way. Fair enough. I don't like 'em either. Their tactics aren't great: wouldn't it be more sensible to dig into defences against an invading army rather than go and attack them on their hill? Native Americans are one with nature. That's why this horse is totally cool with all these shells and stuff. Also, did you know that the closer you get to an explosion, the quieter it is? Right next to one, it's hardly a muffled thump. Brits are either horrible shots or their commanders aren't familiar with the range of their weapons. Also, fire at will? Volleys are for stopping groups, as aptly demonstrated by Zulu: once the big groups of attackers are just spread out, you go at will and pick targets you want so that things work more effectively: no point firing 20 shots at once, lest he hide behind a rock. Also, there are more men than the front two ranks. Where are the Wellingtonian kneel/stand firing techniques? I suppose "wait till you can see the whites of his eyes" approach doesn't really work here. His eyes are invisible. In fact, if I was Connor, I don't think I'd be able to see much at all out of that. Think how much a baseball cap reduces your vision, then think: what if I was looking down in this whole video? It's like that, but worse. Assassin jumps across. Fair enough. Only to meet lots of spaced out soldiers to kill on the other side. How come? Funny hats, revolution leader doesn't have a telescope on his person. Odd. Pretty good entrenchment, with all the spikes and stuff. Why leave it? Those cannon won't do that much. Wub wub, let's break formation. Hot damn, revolution has artillery. Why didn't they try a quick bombardment first, as was conventional at the time? Scares the enemy and kills them. They don't have defence, you do. It'd have been ideal. Asssassin has a kickass bow, general's pistol 'aint loaded while he strolls towards him. Yay! Realism! You're wearing jewellery, so I'll clobber you, K? fudge yeah, says revolution leader. This would be the perfect time for an organised attack while they're all a disorganised rabble, following artillery and unexpected assassination! Let's send men in a disorganised crowd to give the enemy a fair shot at beating us. What's this? Our crowd is 10x the size of the British one? Did we even need an assassin? Oh look, he's become an eagle again. I guess that's handy for getting out of massive crowds of soldiers. Just as well he manages to do it under pressure. Say, couldn't somebody just shoot the bird? "Insurrection is the most sacred of rights...and it's a duty too."-Revolutionary General. Y'know, of all the classic rights, I should have thought some of them are a bit more important than rebellion. What about the right to life? Or freedom from torture? Or freedom from slavery (LOLno)? Or the right to a fair trial? Nope. Rebellions. Every time. Hang, on we forgot to draw an allusion to Batman other than the winged creature personification and him being a badass! RISE Hope you enjoyed.- 3 comments

I said a while ago someone should make this. Fairly well done, in my opinion. ~Helm Lardar~

Language warning. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aT8lJEgEuTk ~Helm~ P.S. I got all the achievements on Learn to Fly 2, a flash game which is the sequel to "Learn to Fly". During the game, you use a penguin and a penguin dummy to variously fly really fast and destroy various obstacles, such as a snowman, a small mountain, a small iceberg, and "the wall", the biggest iceberg in the world.

The amount of people who don't know who Bjork is scares me! I mentioned her in the chat and I had people asking me what that was. Did I mean Bjorn from Abba or Bjorn Borg the tennis player? I don't think anyone in there knew who she was. Maybe its because you're all young'uns! :( I guess this is one of her most well known songs:

I'd like to start with a huge thanks to Massecure360. This amazing man has just sat through 34 separate pieces of film, all recorded at an event that he couldn't even attend. (Real life happened.) In order to even do that, he had to do some technical wizardry. It took me about 13 hours to upload them all. Guthix only knows how long it took him to download them at the other end. But then, disaster! The film had all been saved in a format that his software couldn't access. Fortunately, a brief Google search later introduced us to a free downloadable software, that allowed this format to be converted into a workable format. However, they all had to be individually rendered or something like that. It looked like a big job, involving several hours of time (that could have been otherwise productively spent playing Runescape). I offered to do it. Massecure360 waved me away. He'd get on the case. Bear in mind that he wasn't even originally the person who was going to edit it all together. It was all filmed with another volunteering editor in mind, but he had to back out. (Real life, as is frequently the case, happened.) I did one of those 'Massecure, I :( you PMs' and he was only too happy to step up to the plate. So that's how lovely Massecure360 is as a person. Then you get to see what he did with those 34 separate pieces of film. I saw them in the raw form, mainly because I filmed them. I'm not an artistic type of woman. I'm more your 'point and click and hope something decent comes out of the other end' camerawoman. My main goal in life was to get a snippet from every event (though I had to regretfully miss those which happened while I had Dream Spell activated). The next day, I watched them all back, just to ensure that there were none hidden in there that hadn't recorded, or was picking up aliens or something. My face was a bit like this: :( I'm not exactly Steven Spielberg over here. On the bright side, I don't have to be. Because Massecure360's talent exists in the world. All I had to do was hand it all over; and what happened next was this: Thank you, Massecure360. :(

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EhrEvKbyLp0 That's me at minute 6:19, faffing around with my hat. It had spent two months on a bedpost, staying beautifully upright. After a week of being shoved in a bag and carried around half of Wales and England, it was decidedly floppy. What Excl didn't film was my friend, Saya, reaching into her bag and getting out her mini sketchpad (she's an artist). She tore out a page of stiff paper and rolled it up. I balanced that on my head for the rest of the day, hidden inside my hat, keeping the damn thing sticking up. :D (I've since washed it and now it appears to have got the idea and sticks up without artist sketch-paper.) But back to the plot. I'M IN AN EXCL VIDEO! Wowowowowowowowowow! Thank you to the denizens of Sal's chat channel for telling me. I nipped in, mid-sentence, from writing my work blog. I'd been into Canting, but for the first time in months, it was completely empty. I was looking for a Spanish speaker. The 19th colonial Mexican army was called Realistas. Is that the plural? As in do I correctly write, 'the Realista General' or 'the Realistas General'? Google translate failed me, as it just told me that the word is 'realistic' and stop being a noob. Sal's chat channel also failed me on the subject of 19th century Mexico, but were right on the ball with Excl videos. Thanks cariadiau! :P Edit: For those of you who feared that they might lose sleep over this, I have the answer. My Spanish friend has just informed me that 'realista' does, indeed, mean 'realistic'. However, it can be used to mean 'royalist'. Spaniards today view that context as a kind of noob word though and prefer to use 'monárquico' instead. A 's' on the end of a Spanish word means that it's a plural 95% of the time. So 'realista' = 'royalist' and 'realistas' = 'royalists'. You can all relax again. Edit 2: For those visiting from Blogger, have you been having trouble with it today? It's just taken me over 6 hours to write a single blog. Ok, the subject matter had to be learned, dissected into the important bits and written about, but that's just history and writing. What really took the time (other than finding out about Realistas) was blogger itself. I've never had this trouble with it before (and I use it every week day), but it kept crashing, not letting me look at previews, or just simply telling me that the service wasn't available, whenever I tried to save my progress. Just a head's up to anyone who uses Blogger, who hasn't blogged yet today. Just save your work before you press 'publish', just in case.

Thank you to Cxkslei for taking all of the disparate footage of the first half of our Winter Festival (Dec 19th 2009) and editing it together for us. He answered the call a couple of days ago, when I found that I still had all of the video on-line and just needed an editor. Here you go! Enjoy! and that's everything covered now. For completeness, here are the other two videos of that momentous day:

Video: Canting Away Winter Festival (second Half)
Merch Gwyar posted a blog entry in Merch Gwyar's Blog
Many, many thanks to the trully epic Massecure360. He sat through hours of footage in order to edit it down to something more watchable, then used his talent to create a video for us. This shows records that happened between noon and midnight on 19th December 2009, including the part where Canting Away merged with Sal's Realm of Runecape Christmas Party, as well as Jordans W71 getting his 99. It omits the fire part, but that's because the footage was waaaaaay too big for me to transfer to him and anyway, I've already uploaded that separately. Thank you once again Massecure. You're amazing. -
I'm famous. :) I turn up at 9.28 mins. I've even got the proper hood on. LOL

I'm not the world's best film-maker. However, I decided, after watching -82-'s videos, that I wanted to make one to show how I killed the KBD. I filmed about 25 minutes worth of it with the idea that maybe Massecure could help me work out the important bits. But then he went on holiday before I could ask him and so I edited it myself. Yeah. But I did get it down to 9.20 mins. It took me ages to sort out the music to put on my butchered edited video. I've just uploaded it onto YouTube and the first thing that they did was mute it. *sigh* Please put on some dramatic music before watching, so you're not seeing it in silence. I had a selection, including 'Shelob's Lair' from the Lord of the Rings and 'Cyberworld' by X-Ray Dog. Strangely enough, it seems that if you watch it from my profile page, the audio is currently still there. ^_^ There's also a note on mine saying that it's still processing and the quality will improve after it's finished. Edit: And apparently the audio is still here on this embedded video. Curiouser and curiouser. A huge, huge thank you to Cpt1992carrot, who commented on my video with instructions on how to dispute the audio muting. Sound is now back. Thanks also to Josh, who'd linked to another source for the same information in the comments here. ^_^ This is me killing KBD five times in one solo session:

Remember I mentioned a few days ago that Icey Dan1 was making a blogging video? Well he's done it. It's full of useful tips about Runescape blogging and can be found on You Tube. And yes, I did just about die in my seat at around 8:50 minutes. ^_^ :/ ^_^ :/ ^_^ :/ :yay: :yay: :yay: :yay: :yay: :yay:

I've been at Canting Away for *almost* a year now (it'll be a year in a week or two), so I decided to make a video of how much I've had fun with my friends that I have enjoyed being with. I've tried kept the video short since I know some of you get bored easily... like me.

As I was editting Wolfhe's video, I kept finding things that I couldn't do. For example, when everyone switched on their wolf prayers, I wanted to play the clip of the wolf howling. I put it in and it sounded amazing, but then I added in the music and suddenly I couldn't have the wolf howl. I had to compromise with sticking it at the end, so you hear it as we travel to Catherby instead. Yesterday, I downloaded Camtasia and I've been playing with that. Fortunately, we had another skillcape achieved yesterday in our gang, so I got to film Audioworm's triumph using this new software. I naturally checked that someone else was filming too, because I wasn't confident of the results without having tried them. Fortunately, Em was filming too, otherwise I would have switched back to Hypercam/Windows Movie Maker and saved my experimentation for another, less auspicious occasion. Camtasia is a lot more complicated than Windows Movie Maker. I learned how to use the latter by trial and error, pressing buttons just to see what they do. I started to do that with Camtasia and either nothing happened or else Windows closed the programme. O... k... I ended up watching the Tutorial videos, which were both helpful and very distracting. It was the narrator's accent. Yes, it was American, but that's usually neither here nor there. There are some American accents, like my friend from Georgia, which I could hear all day. There are others which are just American accents, they make words, I divine interpretation and woot! Communication has occurred. But this accent... I think it's the first time in my life that an actual accent has grated on my nerves. Anyway, that's by the by. I learned that had I been editting Wolfhe's video in Camtasia, I would have been able to add in that howl where I wanted it. However, having now played with a video, editting and adding music, I've also discovered a limitation. In Windows Movie Maker, I can fade music in and out, but Camtasia doesn't have that option. As a result, the last piece of music on Audioworm's video ends very abruptly. I'm wondering if I can edit the film in Camtasia, then re-record it all using Hypercam, before adding the music in WMM. Mmmm... Hopefully I wouldn't lose the extra tricks, like that wolf howl, in doing so. One thing that I am very impressed with is the zoom and pan feature of Camtasia (once I'd got the hang of it). I ended up so absorbed that I spent an hour playing with that on the unedited version of the video, though you'll be pleased to know that most of that ended up being cut out. I still think that I've overused it at the moment, which can be a little dizzying to watch, especially when coupled with the general Runescape playing movement of the view. It's something I'm enjoying learning about though. I've also worked out how some of the videos of, say, Doomcreator0, Sir Ajacobs and Tehnoobshow were done, because I never had the technology to do some of their shots before. I think there are pros and cons with both and hopefully I'll end up with a mental checklist of when to use which piece of software to do what in the future. I've also heard that a Sony video editor is pwnage, so I might investigate that one too. I'm uploading the video into You Tube as we speak. I'll add a link here when it's in and congratulations on 99 Firemaking, Audioworm! Edit: It's on YouTube now:

A rather belated congratulations to Wolfhe! He achieved 99 Fletching just before I went to London, hence I didn't get chance to edit the video before now. Nontheless, here it is! and the much bigger, bettter quality Windows Media version. Those who were having issues with my videos solely being available in the latter will be pleased to know that yesterday I transferred all missing ones to YouTube too. They can be found here.

Congratulations On 91 Runecrafting, Teacuptime
Merch Gwyar posted a blog entry in Merch Gwyar's Blog
For as long as I've known him, Teacuptime has been aiming for level 91 Runecrafting. I remember the big decision making blog entry about it, which I think is the first time I commented there: 'Let Me Draw You a Diagram...'. There were graphs and everything. This evening, he got it! 91 Runecrafting, double nats (mostly for me, using the assist system :D) and much wooting! Congratulations, cariad! Of course I filmed it, but in deference to the whole video issue, I'm adding it to You Tube. It's been uploading for the past century and a half, but hopefully will turn up soon on my You Tube channel. Edit: It's up there now: Teacuptime Gets 91 Runecrafting Edit2: For those who prefer a less blurred version, it's also now on the website: Teacuptime Gets 91 Runescrafting -
The Wise People over at the Tech Support Forum are working out why some of you can see my videos in Windows Media Player, but others need to download them before they can be watched. Thread in Tech Support But they need more information before they can conclude things. Please vote in the poll.
