Improving enchantment: it's written in the stars
Helm Lardar posted a blog entry in Helm Lardar's blog:
Okay guys: the enchantment system in minecraft is powerful, but very frustrating. What Admiral would call "quirky" saying it "adds to the feeling of the game". I don't know why people think that shizzle is a good argument, but there we are. The problems with it are: Gathering experience can take a while and thus can necessitate grinders (not an issue to me, grinders are a decent part of the game and just hunting generally gets you enough for level 30). Enchantments are entirely random, with no way to choose which you want. Some enchantments are considerably worse than others but are just as likely to get. Experience cannot be stored, and it is thus dangerous to walk around as a high level (not too much of an issue, but not ideal). Another issue with the game is that navigation isn't what it might be. You have a compass pointing to where you originally spawned and you have a map, but if you go too far out it's going to be very difficult to find your way back. A little like real life, but there is a solution: f3 gets you co-ordinates. Why don't we put them in game and solve enchanting too? Here's the idea: enchantments should be controlled by the stars. Using two new items, a sextant and a telescope, you can gain co-ordinates in the day with the former (thus making it easy to navigate across large worlds) and look at constellations in the latter. You can set a telescope on a stand in the floor to make an observatory where the scope can even see through glass. Set a telescope, or several, into the roof, and point them between the stars and your enchanting table. Look at the constellations: they represent different enchantments. For example, the silk worm constellation gives silk touch, while the fire constellation gives flaming enchantment, while the sword constellation gives sharpness. You get me. Then, you can focus your telescope in the roof on different constellations and it will shine the correct light onto the pages of the book, making it magically turn to relevant pages. (This isn't quite a telescope...it's slightly more powerful, and probably requires a pearl for the lens and a diamond for the focusing crystal, like the oculory in Mzulft). So you do enchanting at night and with that stuff. That way, you can choose your enchantment, ensuring that you don't have to work way more than someone else to get something just because chance hates you. Focus the telescope on the moon for a random enchantment, I guess. Unbalanced? Nay, it requires decent tech and makes sense. Also, storing experience: either we can go with bottles and brewing stands, or books. Why not books? Pop a book on the enchanting table and the moonlight should make it work as an XP holder. Read it, and you'll get your level back again. Finally, unwritten books, written books, xp books, and half-written books should all be storable on bookshelves. Yours, Helm Lardar -
Because RuneCraft refers to something else. Taken from the official Minecraft server of Sal's Realm, Salscraft! Thanks to the chatbox participants and dwellers of Salscraft. Puzzle The winner will receive the extraordinary benefit of having their name mentioned here . If nobody gets it after a while, I will add a hint. Also, you have to mention how you know the answer. Otherwise you would have a 1/5 chance of success. Question: Which Minecraft armor set am I wearing? Winrar:WolfieMario

Meh Castle, part 5 - I'm spend way too much of my time on this.
Dimosthimise posted a blog entry in Dimos' Blog to Nothing
Well, I'm now done with the roof of the barracks - it is annoying to do since the diagonals you cannot do with MCedit (effectively, at least), so I had to place them BY HAND!!! WTF IS THIS THE DARK AGES OR SOMETHING?!?!?!? Well, anyway, I got it done with. Now the base of the barracks are complete, I'll start putting in the windows/towers/other fiddlybits that make it look nicer, and from there I'll do more work on the inside. Once the outside is complete at least though, I'll rotate/copy the mirror side, since the inside I expect to be asymmetrical. I'm working on getting a Bukkit server up at my house for my sister and I to work on the surrounding area once I import the final product. I'm still in 1.1 right now so I can use MCedit, but I'll crossover to just WorldEdit on 1.2.5 once the server is up. And now for some pictures. And for those of you who wanted the inside, here's the barracks so far: And the inside of the tower (more complete, but the roof and some other stuff isn't done yet. ~Dimos -
Well, not terribly much to update here, just been working on the frame of the larger garrison. I have the basic walls up, and the framework of the ceiling build in (with support pillars planned out and such as well). I'll probably fill in the ceiling next, and then move onto the towers coming out of the garrison. From there I'll flush out the inside, as well as get the plan for the bulk of the interior of the inner/outer walls. ~Dimos

I don't really feel like putting a full detail on what I'm doing. I haven't talked about this in awhile (aka I haven't done much with it in awhile), but here is a status pic of my castle so far: ~Dimos

Dimos' Castle Project, part 2 - Corner Tower Frame
Dimosthimise posted a blog entry in Dimos' Blog to Nothing
Well, I finished up the floorplan for the walls, so now I am moving onto building the outer wall. I also spent a bit of time figuring out MC Edit, so I now will be able to cut my work down by about 1/6th. I haven now started up on the corner tower(s), which intersect with the outermost wall. This is what I have so far of the general frame: Now I am going start working from the ground up filling it in and giving it texture. I'll add some outward spires from the base, as well elongate it a bit in general. For the inside platforms, I am going to leave the center mostly clear, so from the very top one can see all the way down to the ground level, through the intermixing platforms and bridges. Kinda hard to explain exactly, but you'll see what I mean later. The pattern of platforms within the inner walls I'll continue throughout the entirety of the inner wall for consistency, so I'll have to think that one a bit more carefully. For this tower, I'll have a few staircases, but I am thinking most of the floors, especially the upper ones, will be connected with ladders. I'm using oak logs for structure detail in the walls, while using pine logs for the larger buildings. Well, that's all I have to say for right now - I'll probably update again for this when the lower sections are complete on this tower. ~Dimos -
Yesterday I was bored. It wasn't that I didn't have anything to do, more that anything I had to do didn't seem to be particularly interesting, so I was browsing reddit, Sal's forums, and playing minecraft. My minecraft house is a pretty ugly fortification type thing, which I'm not sure I'm happy with but I don't want to keep building. Anyway, part of this was that I decided to further my education I'd research something on wikipedia. So I typed in 'cow'. All manner of interesting things popped up: firstly, that their true name is cattle and that other livestock are not cattle, secondly, some of the many different breeds, including the Nazi-bred 'Heck Cattle', and attempt to resurrect the Aurochs that have been extinct since 1627 (it's an agile cattle that made 'challenging' hunting), and the modern day attempt to do that a lot better nowadays with the Netherland's Taurus project. Other interesting facts included cow urine's role in Indian medicine, why Jersey cows are brown, and that there's some african cattle with incredibly wide and cool horns. Also that the wind cave buffalo herd is the only one not susceptible to some particular disease, and a whole bunch of other stuff about cows through the ages that interested and intrigued me: did you know, for example, that a large part of the Jersey isle's economy is the trade of Jersey Cow semen as well as milk? One thing that particularly interested me was the article on Oxen: they're trained, crucially, to respond to vocal commands, are strong, patient, surefooted beasts, the yoke used by them meant that they were more effective than draft horses until the horse collar was made (it used their strength better). What particularly struck me was this picture: Now apparently, riding an ox isn't that hard and never used to be that unusual. Oxen are slower and less tall than horses, but crucially they're more sure-footed and decidedly less flighty: they stick around and get the job done. People often asks for horses in minecraft, and sometimes controllable pigs, and I suggested donkeys: but here's a much better, more quirky, and more consolidatory idea: why don't we ride oxen? This could be part of a large update involving minecraft's least appreciated beast, the cow. Now, in minecraft cows are a bit weird: they produce milk, and they produce beef, and they produce leather, and you can breed them, but they aren't that popular. What if we put them into herds where we had female cattle that could produce milk and children, and male cattle that could produce beef, and that could be ridden? (Both produce leather when they die) You'd need to tame them with a bit of grain, you'd need to saddle them, and you'd need to make a set of reins, but once you've done that, you'd be set! What do you think, readers? ~Helm Lardar~

So I decided to play a little Minecraft today, because of the 1.8 update. Here's something that happened. So I was digging down in my mines and found a vein of diamond. It looked like it had 3 diamonds at first. Obviously, I was pretty excited. I set down some torches and started mining them out. After I was done, I look down and see another diamond block. Yay, right? So I mine out a block next to it and stand on it. Then I start mining out the block. After it's gone the diamond pops up, I look down into the hole and there's a pit of lava. Now this whole thing happened really fast. In like a second or less. I see that this 1 diamond is going to fall into lava and guess what I do? Of course I jump into the pit of lava to save my one diamond. Right when I jump in I hear that this one diamond just burned up. My priorities switch. I had to get out of this lava hole! I looked everywhere for a way out, but the ledges were too high. I started mining out stone while still in lava, but it didn't matter, because surviving that was pretty much impossible. The death screen popped up. This was my face: So I lost the 3 previous diamonds, some iron tools, a stack of torches, shears, coal, sticks and about 5 pieces of food. I think I'm done for today...or maybe forever. Moral of the story? If you already have 3 diamonds, don't jump into a pit of lava after a single diamond. EDIT: I might have also lost my map. Well, fudge me.

Found a ravine, mined a lot of iron, coal, gold, walked over lava on my small bridge while pressing Shift, got shot by a skeleton, fell into lava even though I was pressing Shift, died. Why does MineCraft hate me?

I am hopping on the bandwagon and got the Zeppelin Mod. Here are is my adventures. Day 1-3 -Mission ordered from command of Tellas-9.--Mission Overview ---Fly to planet N7-H-3 in search of Yi'nin. ---Obtain the Yi'nin's Crystal. ---Return to base Tellas-4a to receive new instructions. --Mission Information ---Yi'nin ----Civilization that existed roughly 4.5 million years ago. ----Were wiped out by their enemy, the Takar. ----All surface settlements were destroyed, but many of their subterranean settlements survived. ----These settlements died out due to lack of food source; land was poisoned due to radiation. ----One of these settlements is said to have housed the Yi'nin's crystal, a powerful source of energy. ----All that is known about this settlement's location is that a marker is at the surface of an arctic region. -Commissioning of a long-range scout ship (model 56X-I8). --Condition: Poor. Top-view: Airlock: Bridge: Observation Deck: Day 4 I have now set off on my journey in search of the Yi'nin's Crystal. Upon arrival at planet N7-H-3, the trans-space jump left me over a small lake. Communications mysteriously went dead after the jump. Systems check and no faulty systems. Must be on command's side. Continuing mission. Upon inspection of the ship's hold, rations and fuel had not been loaded onto the ship. Priority now shifted to survival. After several hours, came upon land again, but a very arid region. Not arctic where I need to be going, nor a source of food. Speed increased to find food at cost of fuel. Several more hours later, I have come to a hilly region, and I am going to beam down in search of food. I have about 5 days left of fuel left in the engine, which hopefully will be long enough before I can find a new source of fuel. Beamed down and found some native wildlife. I hunted and brought back up to the ship for processing. The bovine creature's meat proved poisonous, so I was only left with about 3 days worth of food after my trip. Night is falling soon. Night 4 The ship does not rely on solar energy, so it is able to fly at night. I came about a snowy region, and decided to dock here for the night so I may scan the area tomorrow. Hopefully communications will be fixed so I can contact a supply ship.

Minecraft - The Oracle Project (zeppelin Now Active!)
Amber Pyre posted a blog entry in The Everlasting Bonfire
Current members of project: Josters Zachman3334, Head of Oracle Project Removed members of project: bl0mmaN (banned from server for griefing, griefed access stairwell to project, multiple bridges, and walls around access stairwell, among other things not part of project) Possible future members: Admiral2003 I'm actually just doing this to annoy Sofee, but also to get people to visit the server I'm on. Free advertising yay! The Oracle Project Collaboration is a collab project on the SMP server, Pixelcraft, at mc.pixelcraft.me. The Project is a community of people in the collaboration working on building a small village atop mountains, the houses being connected via bridges. Being atop mountains, the general building material for said bridges and houses is cobblestone, so if you don't like cobblestone either shut up and go with it or just go away. If you'd like to join you can always contact me in Minecraft on the named server. Admiral, you might like this, because it's a huge thing. Huge. Kind of like Lumbridge. But with bridges. My username can be seen on various signs throughout this post and the Oracle Tower post. Pictures are edited into Admiral's comment. -
A little something I built on the mc.pixelcraft.me server. It streches, as you can see from this first picture of the entrance, from Y3 to Y128. It used approximately 14 stacks of cobblestone, 20 or so signs, approximately 6 stacks of wood, approximately 4 stacks of torches, 4 furnaces, 1 iron block, 5 buckets of water, 1 crafting table, nine chests, one bed, and 1 stack of stone pickaxes. THE ENTRANCE THE LADDER TO THE HIGHT LIMIT THE STAIRS TO THE MINE THE STAIRS TO Y3 THE HIGHT LIMIT Come to Mc.Pixelcraft.Me if you want to check it out. I do advise that you address me only as my Minecraft name within any Minecraft server besides Gahcraft.

It's a trap! What sucks is that this is where the Diamonds are most likely at. Aw crap. It is.
-
Redstone! I hit bedrock soon after.
-
So I went into that other cave I was talking about in my last entry, and got this: 64 coal, 61 coal, 64 cobblestone, 64 cobblestone, 3 dirt, 23 cobblestone. I also discovered that all my mines are linked to each other. I'm using the Painterly Pack for those who might be wondering.

So I'm thinking of scrapping the town idea and just building myself a nice little base inside a mountain. Found lots of coal and iron in multiple caverns in the same mountain. Currently haven't found any gold at all. What I did find, however, is a giant cave in a mountain which I hope to explore soon. Fun fact: The mountain I'm going to explore is actually the mountain I had considered building a base in before the first night. There's no good space to build as far as I've seen, so I built into a different cave.
-
So I started work on my little town. Not much going on yet, getting a mine set up at the top of a mountain, not finding any coal except for the deposit that was in my house. I'd put up pictures but they're outdated and I need new ones. Also, ADMIRAL!!! Y U NO TELL ME U NO ABLE TO LOAD .MINE FILES ON BETA

Not going to be near my PC for the next 2-3 days. Doesn't mean you can break the rules :P

Interesting update today. Two new worlds have been added - Skylands and FreeBuild. Skylands is basically a floating land in the air. On the Freebuild world you can do anything you want to do! You can spawn items, fly around build massive statues! Want to build a huge bridge made out of diamond blocks? Go ahead! Any member of the MCF server can do this on the FreeBuild world. Note, that the default world still stays Survival oriented with no item spawning Here are some pics: SkyLands You in FreeBuild when you find out how amazing it is. So for now the Builder group becomes kinda discontinued. Herty and Smilefishy are still in it, but I wont be accepting any other people. At least for now.

For the past few days I've barely been on the server. Sorry about that. I have things going on plus I can't really stay on 24/7. Anyway, server as always welcomes new players :P Note that, you should post here first before playing, so I can make you a Member on the server. Conspicuous has been accepted :)

You're a very nice friend. You just go into your friends MineCraft account without him knowing and get it banned. That's really selfish. I'm not even talking about what you did to my server. Now, it's pretty apparent that you want to get back in the server, but I just don't understand you. What were you thinking? Did you think that we were going to laugh it off? If you value this server so much, why did you destroy it? If you knew you were going to come back WHY did you do something that you knew would get you banned? Did you think no one would find out who was that?
-
Note: The server is back on. Hell, this world is even better :glasses: So today, Naruz griefed the server. I knew something was going on, when I logged on yesterday and he had piled up tons of TNT in a forest somewhere. I told him not to do that, but well I didn't think much of it and went to sleep. Shouldn't have done that. This is my fault also, since I wasn't very prepared for this. Well I was, I had a World backup plugin and BigBrother (which just doesn't work? like the rollbacks don't do anything). So yeah unfortunately our world is lost. It was kinda my fault for not being prepared, but if you built something and worked hard on it (spleefing arena, spawn houses, Herty's home, lighthouse and others), you can mainly blame Naruz for being a love-child (Sals censored that, I hate this censor) that he is. If I won't be able to recover everything, a new world will be made and this time I'll try to be more prepared. If there will be a next time that is. You see, I don't know if people are going to play anymore and I need some confirmation on that. If you guys want the server to come back with a new world, please post on this entry. If people don't want to play here anymore, I understand because I lost tons of stuff I built too. Whatever, sorry for this shizzle.

So yesterday a new plugin was installed, which allows people to make really cool stuff with minecarts - Better intersection control, Better stations, Automated farming and much more :) Naruz was the first one to check this update out and upgraded his wheat, cactus and reed farm. I've been building this long railroad away from the spawn, so people can build their houses away from civilization :) If that's what you want, join the server, enter the Train Station and take a ride to nowhere :glasses: That's it for today :) -Fabis
