Hi guys! I am new to the forum. I was wondering how long would getting 99 in woodcutting take? I recently got 85 woodcutting and am using a dragon hatchet (no urns or any means of getting extra xp). I chop ivy's at varrock on a quickchat world where there is no one to interrupt me. I play around 3 hours a day sometimes 4 max. How long would it take in means of hours/days to get my skill cape? Introduction First of all, I haven't played Runescape in over a year, so please forgive any errors based on recent updates. I'd like to think that Squeal of Fortune and Solomons General Store never actually happened. ^_^ For the past seven weeks I've been studying Forestry & Arboriculture as part of a two year extended diploma. I want to combine a topic I enjoy with a game I've known for many years. I want the woodcutting skill to a fun and engaging skill with fewer monotonous activity's. Tree Identification Tree identification is hugely important in becoming a successful woodcutter. Being able to identify and assess a tree for disease or damage helps when it comes to felling. At a certain level (50-60) players are able to perform a tree identification activity. Around fifty or so completely new and unique trees of different species are introduced into the game, they can be found in places like parks, grand estates, jungles, desserts, wilderness and woodland. They are named as 'Unidentified Tree' until a player can identify them. Players must identify trees by comparing the bark, leaves and overall shape with a reference book which they can purchase from Wilfred (the master woodcutter who awards the woodcutting skill cape). This activity is open to FTP who can identify only 5-10 trees found in the FTP world. Rewards Identifying trees earn one-time experience bonuses which vary by difficulty. NPC's will award players with money in addition to experience earned identifying trees on their property. If a tree is identified as diseased or dangerous the player can cut down the tree and receive bonus experience and money. Purpose Playing RuneScape I've learnt about ores like copper and tin and how they combine to make bronze and I've enjoyed every experience when I learn something new. Players should be able to learn about trees that actually exist in the real world, whilst progressing their skills of their character. Lumber Camp Located in the woodland south of the Piscatoris Fishing Colony and north of Eagles Peak. The activity can be considered a mixture between the Circus D&D as well as a fantasy medieval equivalent of the real life STIHL Timbersports. The activity is both single-player and multiplayer. Players can play against each other. Disciplines - (Skills shown in [] affect the players performance reward relevant experience) Wood Splitting. The player must split a log in half as quickly and cleanly as possible using a untradable splitting axe [strength] Tree Climb. The player must climb a pole as quickly as possible. The player uses the mouse to click on each foothold as quickly as possible without getting exhausted. [Agility] And more... I would include axe throwing if it wasn't already an event in the Circus. Rewards Experience, money, birds nests, tree seeds, etc... Remove Ivy I can understand why some people would disagree with this point. I've trained woodcutting on Ivy for several levels, because it rewarded easy experience, but I don't think it should actually be considered an economical training method. The idea of someone hacking away at a stone wall with a hatchet is completely impractical (but so are many other things in RuneScape). I simply don't think it represents the skill as well as it could.

Well, I was cutting magic trees so I could make money to pay my friend back the 930k that I owe him. As I was cutting, the screen shakes and in the chatbox a message appears "You hear a disturbance from below." I was just curious as to what this was and when my inventory was full, I stuck around and nothing happened. The main runescape site forums are down so I couldn't go to the topic there so I came here. Anyone know what it was? I was wearing a black cav, 5 year vet cape, and a dhatchet. I doubt those have anything to do with it though :P After I go to bank my inventory, I go back to the same spot and start cutting again, and the message doesn't appear anymore and the screen in return, doesn't shake either. Higher level hatchets can be brought from other players or on the Grand Exchange. NPC stores such as Bob's Brilliant Axes in Lumbridge carry higher level hatchets as well, but may be more expensive. It is recommended to buy a higher level hatchet as soon as you have the level to do so. Do you want experience, or money? If experience is what you're after, many players choose to cut lower level logs such as willows and just drop them after getting a full inventory. This is known as "Power cutting". If you are close to a general store, you may also want to sell your logs to make some money. Levels 1-15: Regular Trees When you start out, you will only be able to chop regular logs until level 15. Regular trees only give one log per spawn and most of Runescape is covered with them. Each log gives 25 experience. Don't worry, it goes faster than you think. You will need to cut 97 regular trees until level 15. Levels 15-35: Oak Trees Like regular trees, Oak trees are also very common in both free player and members areas. A popular place to cut oaks for members is outside of Seer's Village bank. Another popular place for members is outside of Castle Wars. There is a bank chest inside the castle. There are only two spawns, but they respawn quickly and there is a bank nearby. If you are a free player, Lumbridge or Draynor Village will be no problem. Between these levels, you will be able to move up to using a Mithril Hatchet. You will need to cut 534 Oak logs until level 35. Level 35+: Willow Trees Willow trees are found near water. They provide fast experience and a decent sum of money in large amounts. A popular place for both free players and members to cut Willows is Draynor. Members may prefer cutting willows at the Barbarian Outpost or Seer's Village. Barbarian Outpost has eight Willow trees with a bank deposit box inside of the Barbarian Assault building. If you prefer power cutting, you may want to cut Willows north west or south of Rimmington. Level 54+: Arctic Pines (Members) After completing The Fremennik Isles quest, you will have access to an island called Neitiznot. There you will find Arctic Pine Trees. They can be cut at a decent rate with decent experience from level 54 until 99. After level 90 you are able to gain 90,000 to 100,000 experience per hour. These are not usually power cut or banked. Instead, players split the log by clicking on the stump to gain 43.2 extra experience per log. After making an entire inventory of split logs, you can deposit all of them in one click onto the pile. Level 55+: Maple Trees Maple Trees are accessible to Free Players and Members. They are not recommended for money or fast experience but are helpful if you want to gather the resources yourself to train Firemaking. The only Free Player location is a resource dungeon on the Daemonheim Peninsula. For Members, Seer's Village is the most popular place as it is right near a bank. Level 60+: Hardwood Trees (Teak and Mahogany) Teak and Mahogany trees are power cut for the most part. They are not commonly used for profit and Jagex placed them in areas away from banks. There is one Teak tree spawn southwest of Castle Wars with a bank chest in the castle and if you choose to keep them it is recommended to use a Ring of Duelling for fast banking at Castle Wars. Ape Atoll is a popular place to cut both Teak and Mahogany trees. You will need to have completed the Monkey Madness quest or at least get up to the part where you can use a Monkey Greegree. A Greegree is necessary due to the fact that everything in the jungle is poisonous and hostile toward you regardless of your combat level. The Greegree must be equipped and the hatchet you use must be kept in your inventory. After The Deadliest Catch quest, you will have access to a bank deposit box in the jungle which is useful if you plan on keeping the logs. In Tai Bwo Wannai, you can gain access to the Hardwood Grove which is full of Teak and Mahogany trees. You must have helped with the Tai Bwo Wanni cleanup and you will need to pay 100 trading sticks before each entrance. Level 68: Ivy Cutting ivy is a fast way to gain experience, but does not provide any money. Ivy is located on the north and east sides of Varrock Castle, on the north wall in Yanille, outside the south wall at Castle Wars, South east in Taverly, on the east side of the church wall in Ardougne, and outside the north and south walls in Falador. Each chopped vine gives 332.5 experience. Wearing a clan ring with lumberjack gear can push it up to 843 experience per chop. The only money that can be made from chopping Ivy is from bird's nests. At level 68, it is possible to gain 45,000 to 55,000 experience per hour and around 65,000 experience per hour at level 80. At level 95, you may find yourself getting 75,000 to 80,000 experience per hour. High Level Trees The next two methods should be used for money only and are not recommended for gaining fast experience. Level 80-99: Yew Trees A lot of money can be made by getting 99 woodcutting using Yews. The problem is that it isn't exactly fast, but it's your own decision. If you are a free player, Yew spawns are located south of Falador, Edgeville, or north of Varrock Castle. The problem is that most of those locations are full of bots, and the location south of Falador does not have a bank close by. It is not recommended to power cut yew trees. For members, Yews can be found in Seer's Village in the Cemetery, south of the beehives between Catherby and Seer's Village, or if you'd like a more quiet place, Near the southeast gate in the Gnome Stronghold. If botters ever become an issue to you as a free player, try hopping to a foreign language world. Members will find that The Gnome Stronghold Yews are not botted. Level 95-99: Magic Trees Magic Trees are the most rare and the hardest to chop. They are not cut at a fast rate no matter what level you are, but if you're looking for money they may be worth it. They are located south of Sorcerer's Tower, south central in The Gnome Stronghold, south of Lletya, The Mage Training Arena, and the resource dungeon in Varrock Sewers. Sawmill Training Whenever you grow tired of the traditional method of cutting trees for hours, you may want to try something different. Head over to the Sawmill to be assigned a plank making job and gain experience! The full Sawmill Training guide can be found here. Helpful Items In addition to your hatchet, there are quite a few items that may aid your training. Beaver Pouch- Cuts up to 3 logs from nearby trees. (33 Summoning required) Giant Ent Pouch- Gathers Oak logs. (78 Summoning required) Hydra Pouch- Use a Regrowth Scroll on a farming tree stump to instantly regrow it. Inferno Adze- Burns around 20% of the logs you cut and gives Firemaking experience. Lumberjack Clothing- Provide increased Woodcutting experience when worn. Seer's Headbands- Give extra logs and experience depending on the type. Strung Rabbit Foot- Increases the chance of getting a bird's nest while training. Woodcutting Urns- Collect wood chips and are made using the crafting skill. Once they are full, they may be teleported away for Woodcutting experience. Cape of Achievement After you've pushed through the long road, you will have reached level 99! Talk to the Woodcutting tutor in Lumbridge south of the furnace to buy your Woodcutting Cape and Hood for 99,000 gp. When performing the emote, a tree will grow in front of your character and you will chop it down in a few hits. Your character will stand on the stump while holding the hatchet on their shoulder.
