you dont always need 5 shades

the more shades and colours the better i say, i hate having a colour restriction, becuase it only restricts creativity and possibilities.

and for a new pixeler i think its good to start with five, then learn where to use less and where to use more.

How do you make an underbanner animated?

Animating stuff doesn't really have anything to do with Pixeling with paint.

Any help on blending two colors? I don't get how to dither ;)

Dithering is essentially making a pattern so the eye blends the colors to make a new color. The most common, as well as the easiest is a basic checkered pattern.

Here. I threw this together for you. You'll want to copy it onto paint and zoom in.

The first stage is just two colors; Black and White.

The next two stages just show how to make the checkered pattern.

The fourth just fills in the pattern more.

The fifth shows another basic pattern which blends the colors even more.

Oh I also found this: a practice I was doing some time ago, however if you zoom in you can see a bunch of patterns you can do. (This is like four colors, but it looks like 20)

In general I would advise against using dithering because adding another colors usually looks better, however if you want to limit colors or create texture (especially on larger images) dithering is really useful.
