Clan Board Changes.

Recommended Posts

For quite some time now, we’ve been experiencing quite a few problems down in the Clan Board regarding some rather unflattering behaviour, which have quite honestly gone too far.

In fact, the Clan Board have quickly grown into being one of the most profiled Boards on this Forum in terms of having the most rule-infractions in comparison to activity, meaning something simply had to be done.

Basically, we were left with three possible choices:

  • Promoting more moderators / assign sectional moderators to the Clan Board.
  • Shutting down the Clan Board and completely remove it.
  • Changing both the way we punish forumers for breaking rules and the punishments.

After quite some discussion back and forth, with opinions going strongly for specific options, we’ve decided to support the third and last option of changing our handling of, and routines on how we moderate, the Clan Board.

As much as some people would like to see the section removed, it does serve its purpose as a great place for forumers to be acquainted with clan-life and possibly find a clan of their own, as well as giving people a chance to talk about clan-matters between themselves.

Assigning sectional moderators was out of the question, too few (if any at all) are responsible, capable and neutral enough to be able to take up such a role and we can’t promote more moderators and force them to solely keep a close watch on the Clan Board either. After all, being a moderator involves far more then keeping an eye on a single Board.

We eventually came to the conclusion on creating an entirely new system on how to deal with excessive infractions of our Forum Rules, meaning we’ve decided to use a Strike System to deal with the forumers committing the worst offences.

This particular Strike System involves having your permission masks removed from the Clan board (this means that once these are removed, you can’t see nor access the Clan sections and thus not break any rules there either. ) for a time-period varying according to your current Strike-level.

The time-frame of these removals can vary from a mere week for first-time offenders up to a permanent removal for your entire forum-career if you’ve managed to accumulate too many Strikes.

More specific information can be found in This Sticky located in the Clan Events & Discussion forum.

We sincerely hope that this will greatly reduce the amount of excessive rule-infractions by forcibly removing any forumer who show disregard to our Forum Rules.

Do note the following:

  • This is only relevant to the Clan Central and Clan Events & Discussion forums, you will not be additionally striked for breaking the relevant rules in any other forums beyond these.
  • This is only an addition to the old system of warning users. Earning a Strike will also give warning increases according to the offence, it is simply so that you additionally lose the privilege to post in the Clan Boards for a certain period.
  • Unlike your warn-ratings, which can be lowered upon good behaviour, the strike-rating is permanent, meaning it will not decrease through good behaviour over time.

If someone has any questions needing to be answered, feel free to ask in this thread or PM either me or Dani. Thank you for your time. :yay:

I agree with your action to choose the third option (Changing both the way we punish forumers for breaking rules and the punishments). I also like the idea of the strike system.

Good Call.

Clan Discussion is a high tension area, so the flaming won't go down that much. Most people who are banned will simply make another account (take a look at RSC and every clan forum), but good luck anyway. :yay:

Edit:

One question: Lets just say a person who has a 0 does something worth a strike and they get it and their warn level goes to a 1. Seeing as strikes cannot be removed, does that mean they can't have a review of their posting after one month to get their warn level removed, or does it mean your warn level can still go down but the strike stays with you forever?

First of all, our CE&D forum can hardly match that of Zybez' Clan Discussion forums in terms of sheer size, hence the widespread problem might not be as large as you're indicating.

Furthermore, if this really do fail and people do start to ban-evade to excessive lengths, then it's clear that yet another step might need to be discussed to deal with a new situation, but that only time can tell.

Also Wimpy, you are quite right with your last question. Any warn increase given along with a Strike can still be worked off and removed, though the Strike will stay with you forever.

The size might be different, but the issues are still the same and as you have obviusly noticed, it's only been getting worse. I guess killing it before it grows into anything more at least worth a try. :/

Thanks for answering the question. You might want to include the answer on the Strike Thread.

Even if it was understandable enough, I dropped a small edit in the sticky-thread to clarify. :yay:

Strikes will show up in your warn log and will accompany a warn so that you know that you've received a strike as well. :)

Something had to be done, but I'm not sure if this was it. Now you just have to deal with immature people posting porn on other parts of the forums as well.

How many strikes equals a permanent ban from the Clan Section?
