What's Your Internet Presence?

What's your google internet presence

  1. 1. When I search for my real name in google, I:

    • Am nowhere to be find
      16
    • Lost in the mass of hits of people with similar names
      12
    • Appear after searching a few pages
      1
    • Appear somewhere on the first page
      3
    • Am the first hit
      1
    • Fill the whole first page with hits
      2

If I type my real name into google and hit search, I am the first hit and 8 out of the first 10 hits displayed.

If I need to find out about someone (like if I go for a job interview and want to know a bit about the interviewer), first thing I do is look for them on google.

My surname is also a technical term, so from the second page onwards it starts finding sites about people working on this technical process who happen to have the same (very common) first name as me.

I don't appear anywhere on Google Image search though.

What's your Google search internet presence?

A dead guy on Google images.

You really need to change your name from Corpse Cadaver.

I did manage to have Madonna on my first page of images. I can't understand why though.

I once searched for "Get posting" and a woman in polka-dotted underwear appeared. :yay: (And yes, I tried "get posting more" but this appeared

cat1.jpg

 )

Anyway, my real name brings me to no results in Google Images and to 20-odd results in the search engine, while my nickname brings up around 2,000 results (Awww, my favorite result is in 5th place) and 202 images, most of them Runescape-y. :xd:

Is that the Dani people of Western New Guinea?

Cool, it would be nice to have a race of people with my name. As it is I share my name with a process for the destruction of materials!

EditOMG - I just checked out the pictures of those people. Now I know why I remembered their name. Not the sort of picture one is liable to forget easily

No, no, the *full* nickname. :D

Apparently, I own a pub.

And an airport.

And a restaurant.

And I have a city named after me.

Also there is a lake.

And a university.

And a magazine about me.

And I apparently run.

...so nothing matches.

First line of pictures bring up a weird folded version of my name, a naked guy with his penis on what appears to be Hulk Hogan, a picture of Logan's Run, a family crest, aaaaand a Renault Logan Sedan.

My first and last name brings up some actors.

May I emphasize?

The man was practically slaughtered and he was wearing nothing but it only showed his chest.

I think you need to turn on your content filters to stay with the PG-13 guidelines on these forums.

I try very hard to stay anonymous on the Internet so I'm no where to be found. Usernames are linked to Email addresses and those are both linked to forums, blogs, and other personal stuff. I don't want anyone to follow my e-paper trail so I never release my Email address or my full name, and I make sure my usernames will be confused with either a real life object or just be hard to find, like Apple Juice for example, that would make a great username. Having a space in my username is also important, and I also put my username in where it tells me to put my real name. I let people on the Internet get close to me though. I tell them more about me as I trust them more. :yay:

I agree entirely.

Sadly, my name is in the public domain in general. I've been published in a professional journal and spoken at conferences. However, my real name isn't linked to my internet presence :yay:

Also, my name appears for competing in sporting events and tournaments - again not linked to an e-mail address or to any forum names.

I think the same thing is going to happen to me. :xd: I'm studying to be in the IT field. Microsoft gives the people who pass a Microsoft Certified test their own webpage to help them get jobs. That would help me out a lot so I guess I'm going to have to give out at least some personal information.

Yeah, I work in IT.

I am deeply concerned about ID theft. Not just for myself. I really must get a shredder some time...
