[/name]Crops

With so many different crops to grow, it can be hard to decide which to actually plant, and therefore you'll spend ages trying out every single Seed, and find yourself a while later with less experience than you should have been able to get. Each crop has its own pros and cons, with some being more major than others. To help you decide, this section of the guide will explain all about the different crops, and each crop will be explained in the same format:

Crop: The name of the crop will go here, and by clicking on the name, you can see a picture of what it looks like.

Level: The level you need to grow the crop will go here.

Seeds: Look here to find a picture of the Seeds when there are 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, or more of them.

Type: There are different types of crops such as Allotment, Fruit Tree, and Bush, and the type that it is will go here.

Payment: You can pay a Farmer to look after most of your crops, so that they won't die. The required payment will go here along with a picture of it.

Yield: Once you've grown the crop, you will be able to pick something such as Coconuts from a Palm Tree, and that yield will be stated here.

Growth Time: Different Crops take different amounts of time to grow, so the time it takes to grow (without disease or other problems) will go here.

Experience: As with Growth Time, the experience you get varies from crop to crop, so that will go here.

Pros: All Crops have something good about them to put here!

Cons: All Crops have something bad about them to put here!

Allotment

The Allotment Crops are the Crops that you are likely to have to grow early on in your Farming career, and certain ones such as Herbs may be grown all the way to level 99 and beyond!

Payment: Cannot be protected by a Farmer

Yield: Evil Turnips evilturnipyield.gif

Growth Time: 4 minutes

Yield: Cactus Spines cactusspine.gif

Growth Time: 520 minutes

Crop: Belladonna

Level: 63

Seeds: beladonnaseedstrans.gif

Growth Time: 270 minutes

Experience: 91 (planting); 512 (per Item picked)

Crop: Calquat Tree

Seeds: calquatseedstrans.gif

Type: Special - Calquat

Payment: 8 Poison Ivy Berries 8poisonivyberries.gif

Yield: Calquat Fruit calquat.gif

Crop: Spirit Tree

Level: 83

Seeds: spiritseedstrans.gif

Type: Special - Spirit Tree

Payment: 1 Ground Tooth (Suqah Tooth), 1 Monkey Bar, 5 Monkey Nuts spirittreepayment.gif

Yield: None

Growth Time: 61 hours 20 minutes

Experience: 199.5 (planting); 19,301.8 (check health)

Pros: Gives the largest experience for any single Crop there is. Once fully grown and the Health checked, you can use it like other Spirit Trees.

Before starting to Farm you will need to gather a number of Items, some being vital, while others are just helpful, and will help you get faster experience.

The last comma should go since it sounds better without it

-

This means that if you only have a couple of Amulets of Glory, you can just Teleport to your house to get to any of the four Teleports it can take you to rather than having to repeatedly re-charge it.

Change "it" to "them" since you are referring to more than one amulet

-

If you decide to use Lunar Magic to Farm, having all the different Portals you need will give you the ability to just get a number of House Teleportation Tablets, and require no worry about not having Modern Teleports in your Spellbook.

Change to "not having to worry"

-

At level 20 Crafting you will have the ability to make Sapphire Necklaces.

Link "Sapphire Necklaces" here:

http://runescape.salmoneus.net/itemdb/ViewItem.php?ItemID=1168

-

These can be enchanted using the Enchant Lvl-1 Jewelry Spell, requiring level 7 Magic, to create Games Necklaces.

Link "Games Necklaces" here:

http://runescape.salmoneus.net/itemdb/ViewItem.php?ItemID=1311

-

At level 27 Crafting you will have the ability to make Emerald Rings.

Link "Emerald Rings" here:

http://runescape.salmoneus.net/itemdb/ViewItem.php?ItemID=1427

-

These can be enchanted using the Enchant Lvl-2 Jewelry Spell, requiring level 27 Magic, to create Rings of Dueling.

Link "Rings of Dueling" here:

http://runescape.salmoneus.net/itemdb/ViewItem.php?ItemID=278

-

Although the normal Amulet isn't much use, if you decide to string it with a Spun Magic Root, and enchant it with the Enchant Lvl-2 Jewelry Spell, requiring level 27 Magic, you will receive a Nature Amulet, which can be attached to any Farming Patch to see how the crops in it are doing, and will inform you if there are any problems such as the Crop becoming diseased.

Change the comma after "Nature Amulet" to a period

Change "which can be attached" to "This can be attached"

Link "Nature Amulet" here:

http://runescape.salmoneus.net/itemdb/ViewItem.php?ItemID=398

-

These can be enchanted using the Enchant Lvl-5 Jewelry, requiring level 68 Magic, to create a Necklace of Skills.

Mention the necklace has 4 charges and is recharged in the Legends' Guild on the totem.

-

At level 74 Crafting you will have the ability to make Dragonstone Braceletss.

"Braceletss" has an extra "s"

-

These can be enchanted using the Enchant Lvl-5 Jewelry, requiring level 68 Magic, to create a Bracelet of Combat.

Link "Bracelet of Combat" here:

http://runescape.salmoneus.net/itemdb/ViewItem.php?ItemID=1417

-

One way that this is extremely useful is the Champions' Guild is right next to one of the Bush Patches, so the Bracelet will give you easy access to it.

Add "that" before the first "the"

-

These can be enchanted using the Enchant Lvl-5 Jewelry, requiring level 68 Magic, to create an Amulet of Glory.

Link "Amulet of Glory" here:

http://runescape.salmoneus.net/itemdb/ViewItem.php?ItemID=49

-

At level 26 Herblore you can make Energy Potions.

Link "Energy Potions" here:

http://runescape.salmoneus.net/itemdb/ViewItem.php?ItemID=109

-

At level 52 you can make Super Energy Potions which heal 20% of your energy per dose.

Link "Super Energy Potions" here:

http://runescape.salmoneus.net/itemdb/ViewItem.php?ItemID=1439

-

By using these to increase your energy,

I'd say those energy potions replenish your energy rather than increasing it. They do increase it however, but I feel replenish is a better word in this spot. Your call though.

-

At level 40 Hunter you can wear a Spotted Cape,

Link "Spotted Cape" here:

http://runescape.salmoneus.net/itemdb/ViewItem.php?ItemID=1541

-

It can also do other things for Farming

Change "for" to "in" since you repeat the word "for" right after Farming.

-

One Rune that it's likely you'll want to make yourself is Astral Runes since there isn't a huge market for them, but they are required if you decide to Farm using Lunar Magics.

That's a tad confusing. Change to: "One Rune you will likely want to craft yourself is the Astral Rune. There isn't a huge market for them, but they are required if you decide to Farm with the use of Lunar Magics."

-

After completing this Quest you will get Increased resources from Miscellania, so can get more Seeds by putting money in your coffers.

You don't need to capitilize "Increased"

for each day you leave it, and do no work, your approval rating will drop by 1%.

Capitilize "for"

-

Now that you've got your approval rating up high, head into the castle int he western part of Miscellania, head upstairs and talk to Advisor Ghrim.

Your "in" and "the" words are combined

-

What you do want to put the money on is the Trees.

Change "is" to "are"

-

To get best use out of this, don't collect the resources for several days so that the number of Logs will be just over a multiple of 100, and you will get the most Nests, and Seeds, possible.

Add a "the" right before "best"

Delete the two commas at the end of your sentence

Add an "as" before "possible"

-

Here's a transparent Tool Leprechaun:

lepercon21231266gp6.gif

*Make sure to credit 'SpiderPig' as he's the one who submitted this picture to the NPC database*

-

One of the wonderful things about the payments is that other than for the Spirit Tree, all the other items can be obtained by growing lower level crops, and where Compost is needed, that can be bought from Farming Shops, so the trouble to obtain it is once again small.

You don't need the comma after "crops"

-

That's all the errors I caught

EDIT: Just noticed the second post. What an enormous guide!

EDIT2: Just noticed the THIRD post! Has Neo been doing anything else the past year? :P

Potato

Cons: Since they require such as low level to use, the experience isn't wonderful, and the Potatoes are just about unsellable, so you'l be unable to get back the cost of the Seeds.

"you'l" needs another "l"

-

Onion

Pros: The Seeds are cheap, making it a fairly inexpensive way to level. They can also be grown at a farily low level.

Cons: Since they require such as low level to use, the experience isn't wonderful, and the Onions are just about unsellable, so you'l be unable to get back the cost of the Seeds.

Change "fairly" to " fairly"

"you'l" needs another "l"

-

The "you'l" error also occurs in the following:

Cabbage

Tomato

-

Poison Ivy Bush

Pros: After checking its Health, and picking the Berries, you can leave it for a while and let more Berries grow without needing to plant a new Bush. Is the best sort of Bush that can be planted.

Change the last sentence to say: "It is the best sort of Bush that can be planted."

-

Oak Tree-acorn

You can cut them down to get Logs which can then give you either Firemaking or Fletching experience ontop of the Woodcutting experience for cutting them down.

There should be a space in "ontop"

-

The above error also occurs in the following sections:

Willow Tree

Maple Tree

Yew Tree

Magic Tree

-

There are four main Allotments around RuneScape, each with two Vegetable Patches, one Flower Patch, a Compost Bin, and a Herb Patch.

Change "a" to "an"

-

Location: South of Falador

Type: Main Allotment - 2 Vegetable, 1 Flower, 1 Herb Patch

Nearest Teleports: Draynor Village [Glory Amulet]; Falador [Modern Magics]; Port Sarim Spirit Tree [reqires 83 Farming]; Mining Guild [Necklace of Skills]

Change "reqires" to "requires"

-

Location: Ontop of Troll Stronghold

"Ontop" needs a space in it

-

Location: South-Western Entrana

Type: Hops

Nearest Teleports: Draynor Village [Glory Amulet]; Falador [Modern Magics]; Port Sarim Spirit Tree [reqires 83 Farming]

Change "reqires" to "requires"

-

These are the Trees that can give experience in a fast and furious manner, so make sure you keep them under control, or they may go crazy, and the expereince appearing off them more thanyou could ever have imagined!

Change "expereince" to "experience"

"thanyou" needs a space in it

-

Location: Falador Park

Type: Wood Tree

Nearest Teleports: Falador [Modern Magic]; Mining Guild [Necklace of Skills]; Lassar [Ancient Magic]

Nearest Banks: Falador East; Falador West

Helper: Heskel Body; Face

Pros: Is in the middle of Falador, so is somehwere you are likely to go past reguarly.

"somehwere" should be "somewhere"

"reguarly" should be "regularly"

-

Brimhaven

Cons: There isn't much use for it in Brimhaven since there isn't much around, although there aren't any other very close Teleports. There is no Toll Leprechaun here, so you'll have to go to the nearby Fruit Tree Pach to find one.

"Pach" should be "Patch"

-

Quite simply, what you do is plant crops in as many patches as possible, then pay the nearby helper to watch them.

Add an "and" in front of "then"

-

Come back later, or the next day, and recieve the experience.

"recieve" should be "receive"

-

This happens reguarly, and appears to re-set when the Servers are re-started.

"reguarly" should be "regularly"

-

Take note that the time of each growth stage is different for each crop, so a Spirit Tree doesn't update as reguarly as a Limpwurt Plant.

"reguarly" should be "regularly"

-

This is why Crops will sometimes take over twice as long as they should to grow if you payed a Helper to watch them.

"payed" should be "paid"

-

....also speeding up the time it takes to grow if you
payed
a Farmer to watch it
.

"payed" should be "paid"

-

When you put Compost on a Patch, it increases the chance of the Crop surviving if you haven't payed a Helper to watch it (see Farming Clock section above).

"payed" should be "paid"

-

...the minimum and maximum number of items that you can get from the Hervest will rise.

"Hervest" should be "Harvest"

-

This stops faffing around at a later stage, trying to work otu wht you've forgotten.

faffing....?

"otu wht

-

14. Plant Wood Tree in Lumbidge

"Lumbidge" should be "Lumbridge"

-

If you position your house in Yanille, then have Portals to all the places avavilable other than the Watchtower, most things will be covered.

"avavilable" should be "available"

-

....get to Patches almost as quickly with the right abilities at hand, and gives plenty of Magic expereince, ....

"expereince" should be "experience"

-

With all these methods to choose from, it can ba hard to decide quite waht to do,....

"ba" should be "be"

"waht" should be "what"

-

72-74

At level 72 you beome able to grow Calquat Trees

"beome" should be "become"

-

...., so you'll have to hope the Supercompost does ts job, ....

"ts" should be "its"

-

The Seeds may cost a bit, and the payment be a bit of a pain to obtain,

Take out "be"

-

You could even try cutting a few inventories of the Logs to lower the loss that you make, then sell the Magic Roots to cover even more of the cost.

Add an "and" before the "then"

-

Other than planting those few Spirit Seeds, you should cary on in a similar way.

"cary" needs another "r"

-

That should be all of them. Congrats on the HUGE guide :D

EDIT: Just noticed the second post. What an enormous guide!

EDIT2: Just noticed the THIRD post! Has Neo been doing anything else the past year?

Well, it took me a year to get all the information, but it certainly wasn't solid. :P The solid part was the crazy amount of typing I did over the past 2 days. :xd: (the majority of the first post was written a few months ago)

I believe that is suppose to be seeds

I believe it was. :o

That should be all of them. Congrats on the HUGE guide :P

Thanks for going through and finding all of those small things.

GUH. I can't even read the guide - all the scrolling is driving me insane...... can someone please fix whatever is stretching the page? Because I'm quite sure this is an amazing guide :3

It fits on the page width-wise for me, and I'm not sure what would make it scroll other than the Code boxes Damaged posted, but even then, the other posts should re-size to fit onto the screen.

I had a look through that to get a couple of things about Lunar Farming, along with some things I was given almost a year ago about it, and a few other things.

Thanks to Mrc and his knowledge of gudhak stuff, I've managed to make all the Quicklinks link to the appropriate places, so less scrollyness will be needed when proof-reading. ^_^ (all 54 of them )

Construction

There are several rooms that can be built within your house that can help train Farming if they have the correct items built within them.

At level 1 you have the ability to build a Garden, and at level 65 a Formal Garden. In both of these you can plant Plants to make your house look nice. On the top of the wonderful looks, planting these will give you as much Farming experience as they give Construction experience, so it's a small way to get a few Farming experience.

you can build a formal garden at level 55, not 65

At level 10 Thieving you can Pickpocket Farmers, and at level 38 you can Pickpocket Master Farmers. Both of these can be a great source of Seeds to plant in non-tree Patches. At level 27 you can steal from Seed Stalls, giving another method to get Seeds.

Farmers don't have seeds in their pockets only 9gp.

I wish I could have helped out Neo, but oh well. There is one tip you can add that almost no one knows: If you have added compost first, then you can add supercompost on top of it. You can do this if you have a composted plot already, but didn't have supercompost at the time. Also, you get exp for composting each time. You seemed to have covered pretty much already, though if I think of more, I will post again. Really nice job, by the way =)

In my opinion this guide is farrrrrr to long. It's really off-putting to be given so much information, when a lot isn't related to farming anyway - (The first post is basically nothing to do with farming..., stuff that applies to all skills like teleporting and running faster. The quests section is already on the site (here and here). I could go on.). It really does need splitting into more than the 2 guides or remove all the generic waffle.

Absolutely AMAZING guide Neo, it's clear that you put a lot of time into this and it looks awesome! Definitely the most comprehensive Farming Help guide imagineable, and I can't think of anything that could possibly be missing. :P

A lot of the information in your second post (seed information) and third post (patch locations) seems like it would be perfect to add to the skill guide itself, which is lacking in some areas.

Just a quick comment on the "quests" section - perhaps just make it a simple list of quests and experience, for quick reference? The rewards are explained in the quest guide (and the quest xp guide like Thomas said), so links to the quests should probably suffice. It's your choice though.

This guide is amazingly detailed. I've got something to add though. Perhaps for the skill section you could add slayer because you make tons of seeds from slayer.

All herb seeds from slayer. I've probably gotten more but used.
