Black Metal

Recommended Posts

I'll just go over some black metal bands I know of

Behemoth- Good, but not exactly true black metal.

Dimmu Borgir- First two albums okay, stay away from the rest.

Barthory- Pretty good stuff there.

Graveworn- Not really well known, but a lot better than DB.

Nokturnal Mortum- My favorite National Socialist Black Metal Band (Actually, favorite black metal band).

Early Moonspell- Really good. It's for metal pervs.

Burzum- VARG FTW!

Mayhem- Good, not much else to say.

Cradle of Filth- Utter crap.

Children of Bodom- Ugh...

Tidfall- Underground, has it's good parts.

Celtic Frost- Awesomeness, though not exactly black.

Daemoarch- Side project of Moonspell, and it's better.

I'll give second recommendations on:

Bathory - Great black metal sound, also credited as the creator of Viking metal. Quorthon was a god amongst men

Mayhem - Early or present are both great, Mayhem got me into black metal

Burzum - Very influential and you'll be able to hear why

A few others:

Aborym - Industrial sound, but very good

Darkthrone - A must hear

Countess - You might not like him, but I do

Deathspell Omega - Good stuff

Dark Funeral - Good stuff again

Immortal - One of the best black metal bands out there, don't let their desire to pose like morons fool you

Marduk - Can't be overlooked

Xasthur - Very ambient, one of my personal favorites

Well I'm beginning to get into some black metal artists not all but some of the songs are good :P. So I'm browsing this topic for help too but also put some input in.

Emperor - I like the instruments the vocals need to grow on me, I think that's the same with most black metal.

Children of Bodom- Ugh...

If you said that in my town, you'd get jumped.. Children of Bodom and Cradle of Filth are the most respected bands around my place. So shh.

P.S. You have bad music taste. kthxbye.

Ot: I like Pantera, try that out.

Why do they respect posers?

Also, Pantera isn't even close to black metal.

I suggest "Blood Fire Death" or "Under the Sign of the Black Mark"

Hammerheart and Destroyer of Worlds are also good Bathory albums, but stay away from Octagon.

Blood Fire Death was the song that started Viking metal!

Yeah, but there's really not a lot of difference between Bathory's black metal and Bathory's viking metal. I've never met anyone who liked one and not the other.

Most of the times the only difference between viking metal and other genres is lyrical content unless it is folk metal then just add a few acoustic guitars :welcome:.

Viking metal is just melodic death/black metal w/ viking lyrics. I've never found it that appealing.

Is that all other metal genres or just some? Because viking metal sounds very different from a lot of genres. Take drone metal for example
