Prayer Help Re-write

Recommended Posts

It's done for all useful purposes. A prayer guide really doesn't need many pictures, if you don't want a guide without pictures that's up to you but it's done.

F2P Prayer Help

1) Goals for F2P players

The only major goals that F2P can hit in Prayer are being able to use the Protect Prayers at level 37 for Protect from Magic, 40 for Protect from Missiles (Range), and 43 for Protect from Melee. At level 45 you will be able to use all the F2P Prayers (up to Mystic Might). Level 99 is a rather unrealistic goal for this skill if you are training in F2P and there is nothing much else to achieve in Prayer other than being able to use prayer longer.

2) Leveling your Prayer in F2P

There is no Prayer level requirement for burying any bones so the best way to get your level up is only using the best bones from the start. The best bones to bury in F2P are Big Bones, they give 15 experience each. You can either buy them if you have plenty of money to spend on them (prices vary, but in any case they are expensive to buy in bulk), or kill various larger creatures (Hill Giants are most commonly killed for Big Bones) if you have a good combat level and aren't in much of a hurry.

It will take 3,356 Big Bones to get from level 1 to level 43 (with Regular Bones it will take 11,187). It will take 4,101 Big Bones to get from level 1 to level 45. It will take 868,963 Big Bones to get from level 1 to level 99.

Normal (tons of creatures) and Burnt Bones (Greater Demons) give 4.5 experience each. Monkey Bones (Karanja Monkeys) give 5 experience each.

You can also just pick up regular bones at the chicken coop east of Lumbridge if you want to get free experience that's fast for low levels, but after about level 30 it's really slow. And in case you really want to know, it takes 2,896,541 regular bones until 99.

-Collecting and/or burying bones in F2P to achieve 1000xp-

Chaos Temple (in the wilderness, bones respawn there) - 20 minutes

Boneyard (in the wilderness, bones respawn there) - 18 minutes (a bit faster once the skeletons stop auto-attacking after 20 minutes)

Chickens, Goblins, Cows, scavenging and picking up your drops - 25 minutes

Chickens - kill and bury - over 60 minutes

Hill Giants - kill and bury (Average 3 Hit Kill) - over 60 minutes

Banked (bought) Bones - 6 minutes

Banked (bought) Big Bones - under 2 minutes

3) Quests Requiring Prayer Levels and Quests Rewarding Prayer Experience in F2P

There are no F2P quests that require a Prayer level, though Protection Prayers may be useful in some combat oriented quests.

The Restless Ghost Quest gives 1,125 Prayer Experience

2) Members Prayer Help

1) Goals for Members and Items that Require a Certain Prayer Level to Use

The major goals in Prayer for Members are firstly 20 Prayer, at this level you will be able to wear the Treasure Trail Priest Robe Top and Bottom which give prayer bonuses. Next is level 40 at which point you can wear the Priest Cloak and Hoods (Mitres). Of course at level 43 you will be able to use Protect from Melee, and from Range, and from Magic. At level 52 you will be able to use all the Prayers (up to Smite). At level 60 you will be able to use the Chivalry Prayer (a good Melee boosting Prayer that requires the Knight's Training Ground minigame completed to use) and you will be able to wear the Priest Stole (a sort of necklace) and Crozier (staff). At level 70 you will be able to use the Piety Prayer (a very good Melee boosting Prayer that requires the Knight's Training Ground minigame completed to use). Finally at level 99 you will be able to buy your own Prayer Cape!

2) Leveling your Prayer with Membership

There are many more ways to raise your Prayer level with Membership and many more efficient ways as well. There are also greater rewards for gaining higher Prayer levels.

-Dragon Bones-

To start with there are Dragon Bones, the most commonly used bone to gain prayer with. Dragon Bones give 72 experience each and can only be acquired by killing the Dragons yourself (don't forget your anti-dragon shield!) OR buying the bones for exorbitant prices. Luckily there are much more efficient ways to train your Prayer level in members and even profitable if slow ways.

It will take-

Level - Dragon Bones from level 1

20 - 63

40 - 517

43 - 700

52 - 1,718

60 - 3,802

70 - 10,245

99 - 181,034

-Summoning Familiars that can aid you-

Level 13- Thorny Snail- Carries 3 item

Level 25- Spirit Kalphite- Carries 6 items

Level 40- Bull Ant- Carries 9 items and can restore your run energy based on you Agility level (requires scrolls which can be carried in a Headress

Level 52- Spirit Terrorbird- Carries 12 items and can restore your run energy based on your Agility level and boost your Agility by 2 levels (requires a scroll which can be carried in a headress)

Level 67- War Tortoise- Carries 18 items

Level 96- Pack Yak- Carries 30 items

-Gilded Alter and Marble Burners-

Chapel Power Prayer

First thing before you start training either way, turn your mouse option to ONE click*, this way you will be much less likely to bury your bones accidentally.

*From the RS Manual- The Mouse Buttons option allows you to toggle between using two mouse buttons or just using one to control the game. In 'single button' mode, menus will always appear when you click on objects with more than one option or if you click several objects at once. Some people find this easier, and it's also handy if your mouse only has one button!

clickoptionok4.png

Requirements- This requires you to have a house and at least 66 Construction (The Gilded Altar requires 75 but you can get a bonus of +3 construction from a Crystal Saw, and from a -6 to a +6 bonus from Evil Daves Stew [3 Orange Spices], or you can use Tea from a Teak Shelf in your kitchen to get a +3 bonus) to install a Gilded Altar and Incense Burners, plenty of House Teleportation Tablets and an Amulet of Glory installed in your house (close to your Chapel), 51,724 Dragon Bones, a Tinderbox, and about 2000 Marrentil (incense) or a friend who is willing to stay in your house and relight the incense burners while you train.

To make this as fast as possible you will want to equip only Boots of Lightness (-4kg), a Spottier Cape (-5kg), and Penance Gloves (-4kg). That -13kg plus the other items you will take on each run comes to about 12kg with 24 Dragon bones, 14kg with 27 Dragon Bones, or 15kg with 28 Dragon Bones.

In your invent you will need a Tinderbox, 2 Marrentil (make sure to get 2 more every trip), 2000 House Teleportation Tablets (you could put your house in Yanille and just walk back and forth if you don't want to use the House Tele/Glory system, or you could use the butler system which I will explain later), and 24 Dragonbones for every trip. Or you can have a friend light the incense whenever it goes out, this will take a lot less Marrentils and save you 3 inventory spaces and use all 28.

You'll want your Chapel to be placed in the square closest to the side of the house portal you come in on and your Quest Hall placed on the other entrance to your chapel (with the Amulet of Glory building spot on the chapel entrance side).

Teleport to your house (with a House Teleportation Tablet) go straight to your Chapel and light the incense burners (or go ahead to the next step if you have a friend do this). Now offer your bones at the altar (the one click option will probably save you a lot of bones here once you get going) and once they are all gone than go to your Quest Hall and use the Amulet of Glory to Edgeville. Bank, refill, and repeat until your at your goal!

This will take 2156 trips at 24 bones per trip (normal), 1916 trips at 27 bones per trip (with a friends help), and 1848 trips and 28 bones per trip (Yanille). And if you use one of the 3 travel methods than a Familiar is highly suggested for helping you carry more bones with you, a Familiar could bring down your total time by from 1/8th to 1 half the normal time.

Note: You cannot use a butler to unnote bones. They won't do it.

With this method it will take-

Level - Dragon Bones from level 1

20 - 18

40 - 148

43 - 200

52 - 491

60 - 1,087

70 - 2,928

99 - 51,724

-Ectofuntus-

This gives 4x experience on all bones but it's not nearly as fast as with a house altar. You must have completed the Ghosts Ahoy quest to use this. See the Worshipping the Ectofuntus guide to see how this is done.

With this method it will take-

Level - Dragon Bones from level 1

20 - 16

40 - 130

43 - 175

52 - 430

60 - 951

70 - 2,562

99 - 45,259

-Jiggig and Undead Ogre Bones-

Some of the bones that you can get here provide quite a bit more experience than Dragon Bones. It is quite a bit slower than Dragon bones but you will also get some Ranged experience while killing Skogres and Zogres. See the Jiggig Guide to learn how to kill Skogres in Jiggig.

Using Undead Ogre Bones with the Ectofuntus you will need about 25-26 thousand (an approximation based on getting some of each of the 3 bones) to get to level 99.

-Other Bones-

Wyvern Bones give 50 experience each but you have to kill Skeletal Wyverns to get them, this may be worth it though because you may get some Granite Legs and, if your lucky, a Draconic Visage, while you train. Skeletal Wyverns require 72 Slayer and an Elemental Shield to kill and are level 140. There is no guide to killing Wyverns yet.

Dagannoth Bones give 125 experience each but you can only get them by killing the Dagannoth Kings which are extreme hard and powerful level 303 creatures that you can get to after the Fremmenik Trials Quest. Dagannoth King Hunting.

-Ghasts-

After completing the Nature Spirit quest you can kill Ghasts, for each Ghast you kill you get 30 Prayer Experience. You will need Druid Pouches to attack Ghasts and they don't drop anything worthwhile so I don't suggest this.

-Shades of Mort'ton-

After completing the Shades of Morton quest you can play the minigame in which you kill Shades and burn their remains for Prayer experience. With this method you can make money, gain Prayer, Firemaking, and Combat. Of course you can buy all your Shade Remains and Olive Oil and just build the temple but not many people sell Shade Remains or Olive Oil. You can get up to 100 experience from burning Fiyr Shade Remains and you can also get Rune items and tons of other stuff as rewards. Here is a guide to getting splitbark armor that includes how to use the Shades of Morton minigame.

Cremating only Fiyr remains you will need 130,345 (about 10,800 trips at 12 per trip) to get to 99 but you will also get a lot of Firemaking experience (15 million xp for Willows, 25 million xp for Maple, 35.5 million xp for Yew, and 59.4 million xp for Magic), quite a bit of Combat experience (57.3 million xp combined, and 14.3 million Hitpoint xp) and some good rewards along the way just to make it worth while.

-Pyre Ship Burning-

With Barbarian Training you can get Firemaking and Prayer experience from burning Pyre Ships but this is extremely time consuming and requires a lot of combat and doesn't give any better experience than a Marble Altar. It's not worth it.

-Pest Control-

You can also get Prayer experience through the Pest Control minigame.

-Tears of Guthix-

And if Prayer is your lowest skill you can get experience for it from the Tears of Guthix minigame.

-Random Events-

Of course you can always use the lamps and books you get from the Genie and Exam Random Events to gain prayer experience. 10x the number of your level is given in experience from the lamps, and 15x from the books.

3) Members Quests that require Prayer Levels to Complete and Quests that Give Prayer Experience

Legends Quest - level 42

A Tail of Two Cats - Two Antique Lamps that give 2,500 exp to any 2 skills of your choice that are level 30 or higher.

Fairy Tale Part 2: Cure a Queen - An Antique Lamp which gives 2,500 exp to any skill above 30.

Darkness of Hallowvale - A Tomb of Experience which gives 2,000 exp to any skill of your choice, per chapter in the book.

Goblin Priests - This is a miniquest you can do after the Land of the Goblins quest, it gives a total of 13,750 Prayer experience.

Those are all the ways that you can get your Prayer up in F2P and Members. Have fun with your Prayer Cape!... once you get there...

To make your bone burying more worth while you can get up to 4x the normal experience with different methods. The fastest way to gain level but still very expensive is to buy Dragon Bones and bury them at the alter in your house.
Ehm... No, not really. You don't want to bury your expensive dragon bones, you want to USE them with your Gilded Altar, or you want to USE them with the Bone grinder.. Burying is still available as the first option... Mis-click and you will do exactly what you say you need to do: You bury the bone in front of your altar... Not the way to go.

Well, it's a good idea to place the Altar close to your entrance portal. (Saves having to run across your house)

Once in your house, head to the Chapel and light the burners. Then once the burners are lit, use the bones with the altar.

Actually the game thinks you are burying bones when you use them on the altar. Many times have I received the Leo the gravedigger random while praying bones in my house.

There is no Prayer level requirement for burying any bones so the best way to get your level up is only using the best bones from the start. The best bones to bury in F2P are Big Bones, they give 15 experience each. You can either buy them for around 500-800 each

holy **** :( big bones are 300-500each not 500-800!!!

and candlesticks don't need marrentills

By my calculation, it will 3356 big bones to get from level 1 to level 43. It would take 11187 regular bones to achieve the same.

I've also tested the following times for collecting and/or burying bones in F2P to achieve 1000xp:

Chaos Temple - 20 minutes

Boneyard - 18 minutes (a bit faster once the skeletons stop auto-attacking after 20 minutes)

Chickens, Goblins, Cows, scavenging and buying at 20gp per bone - 25 minutes

Chickens - kill and bury - over 60 minutes

Hill Giants - kill and bury (killing them in 3 hits at combat level of 54) - over 60 minutes

Banked (bought) bones - 6 minutes

Banked (bought) big bones - under 2 minutes

The existing guide states that killing hill giants or chickens is a valid way of raising prayer, but using the Chaos Temple or Bone Yard is much quicker (roughly 3 times quicker, unless you're willing to buy from low level players at the same time).

You're welcome and thanks for the credit.

Not sure if the line about 54 balanced combat needs to stay, but maybe "tested on an account which killed Hill giants in 3 hits on average" or something like that.

You might want to add a bit about the goblin house (just west of lumby) in freeplay, it's a very fast way to get prayer up if you pick up other players' bones and bury them. Sometimes you can also stand outside the house and offer to buy bones for 5 gp each. I can never seem to bury them fast enough when I do that

You can also just pick up regular bones at the chicken coop east of Lumbridge if you want to get free experience for free.

Just 'experience for free' or 'free experience' should be okay there :)

It will take 3,356 Big Bones to get from level 1 to level 43 (with Regular Bones it will take 11,187). It will take 4,101 Big Bones to get from level 1 to level 45. It will take 868,963 Big Bones to get from level 1 to level 99.

Just on a whim, you might mention that it'll take 2,896,541 regular bones until 99 :P There are the sorts of people who'd wonder, even if there's no chance in heck that they'd ever even think about trying it. (me, for example :aware:)

There are no Quest in F2P that require a Prayer level, though Protection Prayers may be useful in some combat oriented quests.

'Quest' should be pluralized and not capitalized (or pluralised and not capitalised if you're British).

-Ectofunctus-

This gives 4x experience on all bones but it's not nearly as fast as with a house alter. You must have completed the Ghosts Ahoy quest to use this. Use this guide to using the Ectofunctus efficiently, Ectofunctus Worship

It's spelled 'Ectofuntus', btw :aware:

If you change it to 'Use the 'Worshipping the Ectofuntus' guide to see how this is done', it'll make the whole passage go more smoothly.

Some of the bones that you can get here provide quite a bit more experience than Dragon Bones, though it is quite a bit slower than Dragon bones you also get Ranged experience from killing Skogres and Zogres. Use this guide for killing Skogres in Jiggig, Jiggig Guide.

Same as above, 'Use the 'Jiggig Guide' to learn how to kill Skogres in Jiggig'. You also might break the first sentence into two:

Some of the bones that you can get here provide quite a bit more experience than Dragon Bones. Although it is quite a bit slower than Dragon bones, you also get Ranged experience from killing Skogres and Zogres.

-Shades of Morton-

Isn't it 'Shades of Mort'ton'?

That's what stuck out to me, good guide so far! I might be able to scavenge a pic or two later today too. :aware:

You'll want your Chapel to be placed in the square West of your portal (have your house set on Fancy White Fallador style) and your Quest Hall in the square south of your Chapel with no closed doors to either if possible.

It should be Falador.

And also, you don't need to have 72+ Construction to use the Gilded Altars. You can simply use somebody else's Gilded Altar.
