snl2549 0 Posted January 6, 2008 Hi, I recently downgraded back to XP from vista, and was extremely happy about the performance. However, I liked vista's theme, and so I download the Vista Transformation pack by windows x to remake the whole thing. However, it was slow, so I uninstalled it, but the bootscreen is still "Windows vista"! How can I undo this?
Darkeyes 0 Posted January 6, 2008 Do a system restore to the day before you installed the theme.
snl2549 0 Posted January 6, 2008 I can't do that, because I just reinstalled XP and don't have any previous restore points. If I restore to the earliest date, I will have to reinstall all drivers and programs, correct? Also, all the icons are in vista style.
Darkeyes 0 Posted January 6, 2008 Put in your Windows XP disc and load the setup. Choose the 'Repair" option and let it repair XP. It should replace the replaced system files with the originals so you can still keep everything else. You'll probably have to run Windows Update again though. Acid 0 Posted January 6, 2008 (edited) -Completely remove vista -hit start -run -msconfig -switch to "boot.ini" -Remove the vista option Alternatively Pick up your windows XP installation disk Now; -Remove ALL vista files from your computer completely uninstall it. -Pop in your XP disk, restart computer -Now hit any key to boot into the XP installation screen -Hit "R" on the first screen, this will place you in the Repair screen -now type "Fixmbr" -restart and done Darkeyes thats kinda overkill lol. What's overkill? All I told him to do was repair the Windows directory, which is also what you told him to do.
snl2549 0 Posted January 7, 2008 Well, thanks everybody. I have system restored to the first day of XP downgrading, and everything is fine, but the Icons are still Vista style. Oh well! Much Thanks, Sean And repair may be a bit too extreme, especially if you're repairing everything.
