Sparhawke 6 Posted January 15, 2008 I do a lot of wandering, having a half-decent knife is essential. Swiss Army :D

Wiltingplant 7 Posted January 15, 2008 (edited) I do a lot of wandering, having a half-decent knife is essential. Swiss Army :) Ooh yeah... go out in the woods, get attacked by a bear. I can just picture the headline: Moderately Famous RuneScape Player Kills Bear With Can Opener Good old-fashioned just plain knives ftw Edited January 15, 2008 by Wiltingplant

Cxkslei 7 Posted January 15, 2008 I do a lot of wandering, having a half-decent knife is essential. Swiss Army :) My last swiss army knife literally turned to dust xd. A question, what the hell for? Let's see since I'm expecting to get my Eagle Scout this year, I work for the BSA, ya really need to wonder?

Mephistopheles 0 Posted January 16, 2008 Carbon steel is better. Yes, you have to sharpen it, but the blade cuts better because of it. Stainless is okay and keeps its edge, but it just can't get very sharp.

Can't find one I like, besides there way more expensive then the $20 I paid for this one. Besides whatever makes you happy right? I don't like carbon steel blades, feels different to me for some reason.
Mephistopheles 0 Posted January 16, 2008 If you want a good blade, you can't expect it to be cheap.
Cxkslei 7 Posted January 16, 2008 If you want a good blade, you can't expect it to be cheap. My last blade was crappy $6 and lasted 6 years. I'm not looking for an eternally lasting blade, one that'll work in the field.
Knifeslinger 0 Posted January 16, 2008 I keep on thinking that everyone is saying my name lol. My dad collects knives, has a huge collection. Very nice knife though, I don't have a real fancy one, but it gets the job done.
Fencefry 0 Posted January 16, 2008 Lol nice knife! I'm guessing you're a collecter The only signifigant knife I have ever seen was my friend's Nazi Gravity Blade (only used by paratroopers when cutting lines when stuck in trees >.< ) It has the Nazi symbol on the bottom and is probably valuable. I only have 2 cheap-o knives that I got from my brother...no biggie. Don't show that in public. I have a 20 year old knife, not sure what it's made out of, but it's still sharp as (the phrase escapes me :o )
Evor 0 Posted January 16, 2008 Very nice. :D I don't really have a clue about knives. What exactly do you do with it? Carving, cut things, resize rope, etc. Ah, it all makes sense now, thanks. Tanning furs/hides, whittling, cutting string. Basically the only few uses any scouting groups, boy, girl, etc, allow. :P

Sparhawke 6 Posted January 17, 2008 Theres always one that has to come out with that damn line...isnt there Monra? :D Wilt, there is nothing wrong with penknives, they fit in your pocket a lot better than bloody great machetes and a lot easier to get through customs lol, when you are out and about you need to think about weight, far more so than you would ever have to do when driving somewhere :) Have you ever walked 20 miles with an 85lb backpack in a single day? I have, and after that fortnight the smaller the better, it does its job..same goes for my mini-maglite and compass
Artixknight 0 Posted January 17, 2008 (edited) Where was it made? It's a nice knife- and seeing winchester, I'm pretty sure it was made in the U.S. :P I really, really don't like knives made from China. (Not being racial) Edited January 18, 2008 by Artixknight

I've done a forty miler in the Pemigawasset Wilderness (White Mountains) and it was amazing! It was pretty funny, because on the last day, we were offering free food to each other (We didn't want to carry it back out). Anyways, back on topic, I have a Bucklite knife. The thing has lasted forever.
