I can really only answer your first question... best F2P mage gear is the ordinary, blue Wizard Robes, unless they've added more for freeplayers since I was last logged in (around three months ago).

What I did to train magic as F2P was shot Curses at Hobgoblins, logging out when I got the message that they couldn't be cursed any more and logging back in. It isn't fast, but it is very inexpensive.

1. I'm pretty sure it's Combat Robes, but if Druidic Robes are F2P, then it's those.

2. No, Gold Bars are.

3. Falador castle, circular room to the left, upstairs

1) The robes that you get from FoG are the best. Otherwise, it's Wizzy (g) or the normal robes (same stats, but looks cooler)

2) Steel bars are the best for xp if you smith them into bodies. The gold bars are only good for xp if you're p2p and using goldsmith gauntlets. (You get great xp for only having to use 1 ore per bar, instead of 3 or more (like steel))

3) If you remember the wildy, you may remember the wildy triangle. (Melee owns range owns mage owns melee) This applies to both PvP and in normal training. So, mage owns melee, no matter what. Good places to train are places where there are lots of NPC's that wear melee armor. Try Fally castle or the Black Knights Fortress.
