Dynamo
Ok.. Begging = And if item lending = Begging then... LMAO!!!!!!!!! Anyways, i let people borrow my santa, Until i log out, For 3k. Once they get my santa, You know most noobs are going to screenshot and say they have santa, so i let them keep it for around a mintute, then i log out. Cat
Runescape is getting more stupid now I hate the new homepage, lending system, request assistance system etc. It seems like they're catering more for noobs than some of us veterans( like me :) ) I only play when I get Really bored. Does anyone else hate the new homepage apart from me? I agree with all of that (except that I play more often than when I'm bored). I wouldn't say borrowing is begging but I do agree it's a problem. Everything that Kalipop said is true. At the GE there are thousands of people (ok, maybe hundreds.) per world just standing there asking to borrow things, and then swearing and calling people rude names when they get a "no". JaGeX has made a biiiiig mistake with that. But not the biggest. Removing the wilderness (sort of) was their biggest mistake.

kalipop
Most of the people in here have concurred that this item lending thing leaves something to be desired. I didn't think too many people would admit to being a wannabe borrower (aka beggar) and say that approaching complete strangers for itmes was ok. While the original intent of it was good, to make up for the trade limit that was implemented from RWT, it still needs to be at least tweaked somehow. I'm not going to say remove trade limit for OBVIOUS reasons, but there should be something along the lines of: 1. You can only item lend to people on your friends list 2. They need to be on your friend list for at least a period of time (even 1 day will do). A time constraint like this would IMMEDIATELY cut down the numbers of strangers walking up to you asking to borrow items, just because they have to wait a whole day, and you know what a typical kid's patience is (zero). 3. If people want monetary compensation for item lending, a small renumeration window would appear to the person borrowing said item. If you're really friends and not charging, then the borrower can put 0, and the lender could accept. Otherwise, you can put in a number based on your trade limit (3k to 30k). If Jagex could pull it off, and could extend the limit based on the borrowing time intervals, that would be even better. This post kinda makes it more of a suggestion thread now, but I'm going to edit the first post to include this, so that way it's not just people ranting about beggars, and people don't have to read through every single post to comment on this addition/suggestion. Jethraw
I agree that while the item lending system is hugely annoying, much of this begging etc. is the product of the hype of item lending and the excitement about it's release (big sentence ) A few weeks should see it dying down. I personally think it's a great idea but bad in practice, Gives players a chance to 'try before you buy' But is grossly abused and is hardly used in that manner at all :) I want a little slogan beside my name on a friends list so before someone PMs me they see beside my name 'No You Can't Borrow a *beeping* GodSword!' kalipop
MagedYew, you're probably right that it will die down somewhat after the initial rush. But there will always still be people begging for lending, just like half a year later, you still have clowns walking around asking for 3k, since that's their limit. And it's just spamfest at the GE now, as we all know. I can't even tell you how many times I have to get my guy to start running to the tree so I can tele away, as 5 people are following me. I don't want to be mean, but I know that if I stand around the GE for more than a minute, chances are I'll get blow up at some snotty little kid, and my 0.0 black marks will be a thing of the past. Jagex would look at the idea as superfluous, but if they could color people's names on the friend list or put an icon as you suggested so ppl know whether or not they can ask in re: to item lending (or accepting aid to be more general) that would be really nice. If they can tell us that one of our friends is on different game worlds, than it shouldn't be too hard to be able to tell who is a lender and who is not. By the way, I love the name and siggy. It is quite novel. =)

Jethraw
I agree with you there, there's ALWAYS gonna be people asking/begging. But will it be so annoying in a few weeks time? A few words of text following you around? I mean, at the G.E text always floods the screens, with buying, selling, trading, begging etc. So when your there it is possible to simply keep looking for something you want to see, and not take notice of the beggars? Or simply, as was suggested do not wear your items until the hype dies down. Maybe it could be worked as a 'borrowing cap', similar to the trading cap only scaled up/down. I.E 200 QPS = an item worth 30m+? Or scaled down 90m is equivalent to 30k trade caps? And requires 200QPs to borrow? ^^ Hard to explain D: But thankyou about the name + sig if it was directed at me

I don't know how that would affect the f2pers, since they will always have a 3k limit. And phats and the like would definitely require some finagling to get it done. With what you said at the ge, more than half of the spam there is about lending. I barely see ppl actually advertising a sale at the moment, so it's hard not to notice. You could say ignore it all, but I hate giving that impression that I'm ignoring ppl ingame. It just perpetuates that stereotypes about high levels thinking they're better than everyone else. I usually try to make an effort to say hi to whomever is training near me, regardless of level. And a lot of times, people just have a question they need answered, or want to say nice cape, though it doesn't seem that way this week. :) And yes, the comment about the name and siggy was directed at you. Phantom, next time say yes, and offer them a regular longbow, which they won't notice in their excitement, and then laugh away
Jethraw
*Brainwave* Maybe - if you clicked on a player it would open a new tab Displaying a picture of them, name, combat level etc. Then they could have their own little slogan above/below them. Then a 'borrow' button, highlighted if the player was lending anything, or not clickable if they are lending nothing. Or make a centre similar to the GE for borrowing ^^ Back to the slogans, mine would definately be: No You Can't Borrow A *beeping* GodSword! The Who?
I think on the whole lending was a good idea. There will always be beggars in runescape, everyone is just spoiled because of the trade limit. Wait one month, you'll get over it.
Kovu
They should just create an addition to the grand exchange, where you can put items in for others to borrow.

4nt450
Maybe they should implement the option of making someone pay for lending, the price being fixed within 5% of a price pre-determined value given by the amount of things lent (supply and demand) in a big building like the G.E. for lending? The grand loan centre? :) no im sicking tired of people lending for cash. Like jagex said it was implemented as a way for FRIENDS to share the items and paying for lending could revive RWT because people could jsut lend out a maple bow for like 20k per hour? How bout no and we just stick with this item lending. Plus i thought paying for lending was against the rules now . No i havent borrowed nothing but still people ask to borrow my whip and its annoying. I only lend out my stuff to friends.

Doddsy
In my opinion, the actual borrowing system isn't begging. I have borrowed a Santa Hat off a total stranger but I didn't ask for it. I said that I was thinking about buying a Santa and she lent me hers for an hour. But begging is still begging. Standing in the Grand Exchange shouting 'barrowing bgs' or 'barrow me bgs' is definitely begging (as well as annoying and infuriatingly spelt and completely lacks grammatical structure). That feature of the new lend system is annoying. I can see the time delay on the friends list as being quite good (similar to the ideas of present giving that floated) but apart from that not much else I can see to change. People will always beg

What happens if your in a clan and a clanmate wants to use it, ur gonna delete 1 of ur friends just to add him so he can use the item then delete him afterwards? thats too much work. People will always beg If someone OFFERS, then definitely it's not begging. If someone on this forum wanted to try something (and they never had Le in front of their name) and I had it, I would have NO problem letting them try it out. I have enough Sal's forum members on my friends list that I would never mind, unless I was using that item right at that time. So if you had asked me Doddsy, I wouldn't have thought twice about it. But random ppl like you said spamming "borrowing gs"for hours in the GE, or following ppl they don't know is definitely not cool. That's why I thought of the friends list idea, which I'm glad you thought was ok. Yes ppl will always beg, but at least if there is some measure in place to prevent excessive, non necessary begging, it would cut down a lot of what is really harassment of other players.
