Three Drawings By Me

Recommended Posts

Sorry, but I don't like these at all.

First one: the perspective does not make any sense. Are the mountains (or whatever they are) floating in the air or something? And really, you could've at least make Ooga look a little nicer, he's not hard to draw. Also, you seem to have pushed really hard on your pencil. Never go for solid black. Make it dark grey, which looks much better than when you've pushed really hard on your pencil.

Second one: a ruler. You actually used a ruler? Never use a ruler when drawing. The perspective doesn't make a lot of sense and the pole is thin (it's actually just one line thick, it's not a pole). The basketball looks odd, and flat. Also, you used your eraser way too much there. It makes your paper go grey. Don't do it, if you draw a line wrong, hell, leave it that way and make it a sketch.

Third one: I have a really hard time figuring out what you actually drew there. First I thought it was some kind of skating ramp, but I think it's a sunset in the sea? Rough guess. If it is that, then well, I don't really know what to say. The sun does not reflect on the sea that way. It does not make a perfect circle with the sea. And the water in the sea also does not move in a circular way, like you drew it. And if those things above the sun are supposed to be clouds, then I have something to add. Clouds are white, or grey. Not black, then it's smoke. Clouds are supposed to have a lighter color than the sky when the sun is visible.

I'm really sorry, but I can't really find anything positive in your drawings. And I'm not being harsh or rude, but I'm giving critism from a fair point of view.

Thanks for all the commentary.

A few things in response:

I used Photoshop to edit the top two because the way they looked in the beginning was horrible.

I didn't use a ruler on the second one, I must have uploaded the wrong one because I was messing around in PS.

The shading looks bad because I have a bad scanner.

The third isn't finished because I don't know what to do with the sun's reflection.

Thanks for the cloud idea, I might try that.

Thanks again and this was pretty much the first time I really tried to draw.

Well I guess it's okay for a 'first time', but there is still a lot of room left for improvement. And do me a favor: don't go looking on the internet for tutorials on how to draw, unless it's a really specific object you really can't draw (lots of people have trouble with drawing hands). Personal excercise beats any tutorial.
