Poll added about inactive members being allowed on the team.

Once we know whether we can call ourselves the 'official' team or not (I'm assuming Fini is sorting this out from what he said about the mod forum...), I'll request a new underbanner to be made. Caboose thinks the current icons we have on there (Windows, Mac, Linux) should be changed to reflect our knowledge of other fields of technology, but personally I can't see how we'd make that work without seeming biased towards one company/developer, e.g. Microsoft or Mozilla. Ideas?

Okay, Redmonke. :P

All I said was just an opinion I had formed based on what I had seen. It's just my viewpoint (which is apparently wrong). There's no need to be so angry about it in the future... Feel free to correct my viewpoint, but don't attack me. :)

I really don't see how you're in any position to say that when you pulled a *person in the debate room that does this* and you clearly pointed a finger directly at me and then made an assumption about me.

Obviously, please don't nominate someone if they clearly know little about technology, or routinely post bad advice.

So why was Redmonke nominated? :) Is being able to use Google the only skill required for tech team?

-.-

Sure I'll let it go, no problem. I don't try and help people with their computer problems to get recognized, but at the very least I'd appreciate it if someone didn't criticize me because they had some false assumptions. :P

What's with Agent F, Bob-sama and Stobbo all being in the same poll category? Shouldn't they be in three separate groups? It's not as if their activity levels are identical.

Perhaps you should read the poll?

His point was that the three people listed in the poll have very different activity levels, and should be evaluated individually.

Alright, it's a separate question for each person now, but tbh I think that makes it a bit too personal, I don't want to offend any of them.

I agree with just about everyone on that list... Maybe a few of the older techies, who aren't quite as active, but they all know their stuff. But, just because you have it, does it mean that you have any special powers? I mean why have a banner just to wear a banner? Does it mean that us who aren't going to be on it can't help people any more, or is it like a badge, to tell people you can trust them, but then again, why not trust me -.-

If you go to this topic you'll understand what's happened. Basically the mods weren't keen on the Tech Team having mod powers so we've made an underbanner for now...Purely to show who gives good advice. If you're not on the team, by no means do you have to stop posting advice.

Oh I see... Kind of like a badge of someone you can trust... Makes sense... Glad nobody has nominated me, though, it would probably be funny enough to put in my sig -.-

Thanks to those who appreciate the effort I've put into assisting those with technical issues over the past 5 years. I do admit that my posting amount has decreased over the past few months, but I still login daily and read up on threads and blogs. The ratio of people helping to people asking is higher than it was in the previous years which is one good explanation why I'm not posting so much. Rest assured, I'm still here. I'm also overjoyed I was even considered at all, let alone getting an overwhelming number of votes pro, even though my weekly post count has decreased. Thank you!

I'm unable to find any usefulness in this topic. If someone not on the "team" tries to help me, I'm not going to ignore them. This just sounds like an excuse to say "I'm know more than you".

I agree.

It's not as if we have people in this section purposely trying to break people's computers, and it's very rare that someone suggests to do something that actually causes more problems than originally stated.

I see what you're trying to say, but we're not trying to be pretentious, we're just trying to give people new to the Tech forums an idea of those members that normally give good advice. It would probably seem less pretentious if it were a pip, but for various reasons the mods don't want the reintroduction of the Tech Support rank, so we're using a banner instead.

Have you guys tried deleting system 32. i'm sure it'll work.

I'd like to change my nomination from Drokarus and Beeboy to Drokarus and Definition.

I'd like you to stop posting spam.

I nominate redmonke.

OK, added you both on the main post -.-

I think that you should go through the voting. I don't have anything personal against Bob Sama, Stobbo, or Agent F, but I don't think that they're active enough.

Totally agree. That Stobbo guy isn't active enough for this. -.-

(But yeh, I am definitely not active enough to be included on this list).

Agreed.

The point of a community help forum is everyone helps everyone. If I go onto a forum about car maintenance, for example, I don't want a specialist team of people who are apparently better than the rest to help me. I want to here everyone's opinion - which is what a public help forum is about.

I voted yes for bob-sama and Agent F. I think bob-sama is just a little bogged down by college atm (I have him on MSN, talk to him a bit), and Agent F is one of the only people who can competently handle hijackthis logs and the likes. I can't remember a time in the last year Stobbo helped anyone though -.-

I also nominate Toungy (who, btw, used to be a total PC fanboy but has now converted to macs!)!

Cattius: we're discussing this in the mod forums. Please do not call it official yet.

The title says unofficial.

I'd like my posts back, please. At very least, I'd like an explanation as to why they were deleted, when all I did was say "I think reinstating the tech support team is a poor idea" in different words.

It isn't supposed to stop anyone who isn't on the team posting advice.

Won't it? If I open a topic with a question I know the answer to, but I see that someone on this tech team is also viewing it, I won't bother answering the question. It would be a waste of my time. If I know the answer, it's almost assured that this person knows the answer and they will most likely be able to explain it better.

That didn't seem to be an issue in the past.

OK, just Caboose is bugging me to put in a request for a new banner and I don't know what text to have on it :)

Added your nomination to the main post.

This is getting so confusing because the two topics (this one for the unofficial team and the suggestion topic for an official one) have basically got the same posts in now, so it's hard to keep track of who said what where -.-

I nominate Google.

There is absolutely no point in this tech team at all. Which is why it was removed in the first place.

Please give me a good reason why the tech team should come back.

Someone didn't read all the posts. -.-

The short version as I understand it is that we're not trying to bring back the old tech team, although it may sound like it. This is recognizing those who consistently give good advice to make choosing between two opposing advisors easier for those who don't know enough about computers to choose for themselves.
