Blood Runs Deep

Recommended Posts

Just as an aside, I found that the crystal bow was a most effective range weapon against her. I also found that any magic attack that I employed below "surge" level was ineffective -- but that may have been just me (95 mage) -- and the wind surge just splashed on her continually.

Also - when dealing with the Sentinels - I found that a Summoned Monster with a good attack rate was very effective. I used a Phoenix Familiar, and she helped me a great deal.

Thanks for the tips! I'll be attempting to complete the quest later tonight (once I cook the monks I'm catching) and was wondering if it would be useful to have a familiar.

Most definitely -- she attacked the one Sentinel while I switched attacks from one to the other. As soon as I'd do damage to one, I'd switch to the other.

The Sentinels will start to heal each other once they get to half damage -- so the key is to keep alternating your attacks on them, one and then the other.

Meanwhile -- for some reason, they never seemed to both to try to heal any of the damage that my familiar was doing. With her magic attacks, the Phoenix familiar proved a very helpful ally in that battle.

She was not a lot of help against the Dagganoth Mother mind you -- but she did contribute whenever the Mother shifted her vulnerability to fire based mage attacks

Thanks for the info, Blyaunte -.-

Also, I used Wave spells and they worked just fine on the mother. Did you perhaps just have a bad magic attack bonus or something?

A Dagganoth and Wallasaki will appear and will range and mage you. After a while Baba Yaga will finally fix the lectern and you'll be taken back to her house.

Wallasaki -> Wallasalki

Once you've killed them, go into the next section of the cave and head south until you see a tunnel entrance. Go through it then go South into the next part of the cave. Here you will find the Dagganoth Mother. Be prepared! This battle can take a long time.

You may want to state that it would be smart to restock on supplies before going into the cave to fight the Mother.

As soon as the fight starts, step away from her. That way you mostly only have to watch her Magic and Range attacks, which can hit hard, but not as hard as hard as her Melee attacks, which can hit in the high 30s.To start, she is invulnerable to any attack...

Add a space after the period after "30s".

And yes, the Dagganoth sentinels will not heal any damage done by a familiar, from what I've heard. So it would be a good idea to bring a familiar and tell it to attack one sentinel while you attack the other.

While escorting Vargas he may be attacked by Dagganoths. When he is you'll need to use food on him to heal him. You also cannot get too far away from him, or he'll be captured by dagganoths and you'll have to go back to the beginning to get him.

Should be "When he is low on health you'll need to use food on him to heal him." I think? :)

For her Ranged attacks, it is suggested to use the Crystal Bow.

You mean "For a range attack, it is suggested to use the Crystal Bow."?

Just some minor issues.

Good guide. Looking to do the quest later today -.-

The Sentinels will heal each other once either of them reach half health, so you need to attack one for a little while, then start attacking the other until they both die. It is also useful if you bring a familiar with a good attack rate to attack one of the Sentinels.

Mine started healing right after I hit a high number so I don't think that's true and you may want to put they're level 193

I was wearing full Guthans at the time -- so it is likely I wasn't getting any help there. To be honest, despite my Magic level, I find that the game doesn't like me when I am casting magic anyways -- no matter how high my magic bonus happens to be -- I will splash spells no matter what the target, while people with a much lower magic level and worse bonuses will hit every time. Frankly, I think the game hates me. -.-

You may also want to mention that it is better to "right click" and select to manually "Cast" versus "Auto-casting" your spells, as there is a noticeable "lag" when you switching from one spell attack to the other spell attack. When you leave it on auto-cast, you will still cast one more of the previously chosen "auto-cast" spells prior to switching spells. It DOES make a big difference, as she seems much more vulnerable to the "first" new attack of each type -- plus you will save on runes.

Also, has anyone checked to see if, say Ruby (e) or Diamond (e) bolts had any "special affect" on her? I would assume that she is invulnerable to any poisons.

[name=f1]S[/name]tart off by going to speak to Baba Yaga in her walking house on Lunar Isle. Talk to her about the man in the bed. She will tell you that he washed up on the shores and she wants you to help him by going into the dream world with her.

[center][img=http://img94.imageshack.us/img94/7734/quest2.png][/center]
When she takes you into the dream world you'll be taken to a lighthouse with a man named Silas, the missing lighthouse keeper. [name=f2]S[/name]earch the bookcase and you'll find a Prophecy Tablet. The inscription on it reads "When the tide is strongest, good intent will be needed once more". [name=f3]T[/name]alk to Baba Yaga after finding the tablet and she'll tell you to check the next room upstairs.

[center][img=http://img192.imageshack.us/img192/1814/quest4.png][/center]
Once you head up the stairs you will find a tunnel, and on the other side of the room will be the Dagannoth Mother and Silas. [name=f4]E[/name]avesdrop on their conversation and you'll find out that the Dagannoth Mother is raising an army.

[center][img=http://img94.imageshack.us/img94/5156/quest5.png][/center]
[name=f5]G[/name]o through the tunnel and talk to Silas. When you try to use the lectern it won't work. Baba Yaga will try to fix it, but while she tries to you will be attacked by Dagannoths. [name=f6]G[/name]et all of the Dagannoths lined up so only one can attack you. A Dagannoth and Wallasalki will appear and will range and mage you. After a while Baba Yaga will finally fix the lectern and you'll be taken back to her house. [name=f7]T[/name]alk to Baba Yaga and the Oneiromancer will come in and talk to Baba Yaga. She says that Dagannoths are attacking Rellekka and you're going to have to help fight the Dagannoths off. Go to the bank to get some fighting supplies, you'll have to fight some Daganoths. When you are ready to go to Rellekka, Baba Yaga will ask to see your Seal of Passage, then she will kick you out of Lunar Isle and you'll be at Rellekka.

[center][img=http://img265.imageshack.us/img265/8004/quest6o.png][/center]
[name=f8]O[/name]nce you kill enough Dagannoths, Chief Brundt will tell you to meet him on his boat.

[center][img=http://img260.imageshack.us/img260/6745/quest7.png][/center]
[name=f9]G[/name]et on Chief Brundt's boat and talk to [name=f10]Q[/name]ueen Sigrid. She will tell you King Vargas went missing while searching for treasure under Waterbirth Island. Tell her you'll go find him, and she'll give you the Balmung, a weapon that is good for dealing with Dagannoths.

[center][img=http://img130.imageshack.us/img130/216/balmung.png][/center]
[name=f11] T[/name]alk to Chief Brundt now and he will take you back to Rellekka so that you may restock on food or anything you may need. Be sure to ask for a new Seal of Passage, since Baba Yaga took yours.

[center][img=http://img189.imageshack.us/img189/8969/quest8.png][/center]
[name=f12]N[/name]ow go to Waterbirth Island. When you try to go into the [name=f13]c[/name]ave you will be stopped by Bardur. He will tell you he's been hearing strange voices coming from the caves, and he's noticed a new hole that he hasn't seen before. He will give you a rope in case you want to check it out.

[center][img=http://img189.imageshack.us/img189/3063/quest9.png][/center]
[name=f14]H[/name]ead Southwest to the hole and tie your rope to it so that you can climb down it. Down here you'll find King Vargas. You'll need to escort him to the lighthouse basement for safety.

[center][img=http://img526.imageshack.us/img526/7293/quest10.png][/center]
[name=f15]W[/name]hile escorting Vargas he may be attacked by Dagannoths. When he is low on health you'll need to use food on him to heal him. You also cannot get too far away from him, or he'll be captured by Dagannoths and you'll have to go back to the beginning to get him.

[center][img=http://img526.imageshack.us/img526/8756/quest11.png][/center]
Once you've made it to the ladder that leads you to the basement of the lighthouse, some rocks will fall on you while Vargas is trying to go up the ladder. You wake up in the Grand Hall. [name=f16]T[/name]alk to Eir, and you'll find out that you're dead, but it's not your time yet. So talk to her when you're ready to leave. Now you'll be back on Brundt's boat. [name=f17]T[/name]alk to King Vargas and he'll thank you for saving him, and then he'll give you a Prophecy Tablet. Its inscription reads "All consuming darkness will rise from the sea, unleashed by good intent."

[center][img=http://img695.imageshack.us/img695/8947/quest12.png][/center]
After that, King Vargas wants you to marry him and Queen Sigrid. After their ceremony, if you are a male, talk to [name=f18]P[/name]rincess Astrid; if you are a female, talk to Prince Brand. She or he feels that you both should get married. You can choose whether or not you would like to.

[center][img=http://img695.imageshack.us/img695/1915/quest13.png][/center]
[name=f19]B[/name]e sure to stock up on food, Prayer potions, and have good gear ready. You'll want a ranged weapon, runes for combat spells, and the Balmung to use as a melee weapon. After that, talk to [name=f20=]B[/name]rundt to head out for the final battle. [name=f21]G[/name]o down the hole, and into the tunnel to the South. Koschei the Deathless will stay behind to stop any Dagannoths from entering. When you try to go through the next tunnel Koschei will come, saying the Dagannoth Kings have come. The rest will go back with him to defeat them. Go through the tunnel to fight the Dagannoth Sentinels now.

[center][img=http://img297.imageshack.us/img297/4272/quest14.png][/center]
They will use range, mage, and melee attacks, but they will mostly be using melee and range. The Sentinels will heal each other if you just focus on attacking one, so you need to attack one for a little while, then start attacking the other until they both die. It is also useful if you bring a familiar with a good attack rate to attack one of the Sentinels.

[center][img=http://img31.imageshack.us/img31/748/34949747.png][/center]
Once you've killed them go restock on any supplies if you need to, then go into the next section of the cave and head south until you see a tunnel entrance. [name=f22]G[/name]o through it then go South into the next part of the cave. Here you will find the Dagannoth Mother. Be prepared! This battle can take a long time.

[center][img=http://img44.imageshack.us/img44/1033/daggymom.png][/center]
For this fight, you will HAVE to use Magic attacks, Range attacks, and Melee attacks. If you miss one, then she will keep returning to it, so you barely do any damage. If you miss two, she will alternate between them, so that you can't do any damage at all. As soon as the fight starts, step away from her. That way you mostly only have to watch her Magic and Range attacks, which can hit hard, but not as hard as hard as her Melee attacks, which can hit in the high 30s. To start, she is invulnerable to any attack except with the Balmung. After hitting her with the Balmung a few times she will start changing colors like the Mother from Horror From the Deep. She will switch attack styles every once in a while, from a regular melee attack, to Water Wave, to shooting spines from her back. It's very important to Prayer switch accordingly, and have good food. You will need to switch your attacks depending on what color she changes to, the same as the Dagannoth Mother in Horror From The Deep. For Ranging the Dagannoth Mother, it is suggested to use the Crystal Bow. When you use your Magic attacks, it is better to manually cast your spells versus auto-casting, as there is a noticeable lag when you switch from one spell to the other spell attack. When you leave it on auto-cast, you will still cast one more of the previously chosen auto-cast spells prior to switching spells. It DOES make a big difference, as she seems much more vulnerable to the "first" new attack of each type, plus you will save on runes.

[*]Red - Fire spells
[*]Green - Ranged attacks
[*]Orange - Melee
[/list]

[center][img=http://img44.imageshack.us/img44/5904/deadmom.png][/center]
Once you defeat her, run through the tunnel, pick up the pickaxe, plank, and tinderbox, and [name=f23]c[/name]ollapse the wall. Doing so will also cause you to die, unfortunately. Talk to [name=f24]E[/name]ir to have her take you back. You'll find yourself back at the beginning of the cave. [name=f25]C[/name]heck Prince Brand's and Princess Astrid's bodies; it turns out they died while fighting the Dagannoth Kings. [name=f26]C[/name]limb up the rope, and you'll be back on Chief Brundt's boat. You tell him that Prince Brand and Princess Astrid did not make it. Afterward, you will see a cut-scene of their funeral.

You may want to add this:

If you think you may lose, and want to resassure yourself, bring a Bull Ant/Spirit Terrobird/War Tortiose. Only bring 1, and summon in at any bank. Now, that you've got it summoned, you may put extra potions/food in it. I highly suggest putting Rocktails in your Bull Ant/Spirit Terrorbird/War Tortiose because if you run out of food, simply dump your BoB(Beast of Burden), and viola! Extra food/poitions! I also reccomend rocktails as your food for lower levels.

It was the only way for me to win against the Daggonath Mother.. So it may be useful to other players.

Thanks, I added in a little something about bringing a beast of burden :)

Just finished killing the Dagganoth Mother on my fourth try - had 'port out twice due to not enough food, and then I ran out of air runes. -.-

Having now completed the quest, I would like to strongly suggest that you give a bit more detail about escorting King Vargas. Your guide gives no indication of the fact that:

1) the path you must escort him on is multicombat, and is crawling with not only dagganoth, but rock lobsters & wallasalki; at one point, you're attacked by all three monsters at once. Most players will NOT make it through unless they have defence against all three attack styles - I used Protect From Melee to ward off the rock lobsters, & wore black dragonhide against the wallasalki attacks.

2) at the end of the second room, after getting through the area where you're simultaneously attacked by wallasalki, rock lobster, and dagganoth, King Vargas will make a comment to the effect of "Oh no, here come more of them."

At this point, he WILL be attacked by a number of dagganoth, and you will NOT be able to climb the ladder to leave the area until all the dagganoth are dead. At the same time, his health will be depleted by the attacks, and if he gets red-barred you'll get a message that the dagganoth have overcome him & recaptured him, and you'll have to start over.

I failed this bit multiple times until I hit on the idea of going through with Ancients on & using Ice Burst to keep the dagganoth from doing too much damage to Vargas.

Actually -- you CAN get through the room with the Dagganoth "alive" -- what I did was turn off my "auto-retaliate" and I focused on leading Vargas through and keeping him healthy. When his HP bar got to half red, I "used" a monk-fish on him, and it restored some of his hitpoints.

I ended up using 5 monkfish on him through this section, plus 3 rocktails on myself, but was successful in my initial attempt.

The path you must escort Vargas on is multicombat, and is crawling with not only Dagannoth, but rock lobsters & wallasalki; at one point, you're attacked by all three monsters at once. Most players will NOT make it through unless they have defence against all three attack styles. It's best to use Protect from Melee to defend against the Rock Lobster and wear Dragonhide to protect against the Wallasalki's Magic attacks. At the end of the second room, after getting through the area where you're simultaneously attacked by Wallasalki, Rock Lobster, and Dagannoth, King Vargas will make a comment to the effect of "Oh no, here come more of them." At this point, he will be attacked by a number of Dagannoth. At the same time, his health will be depleted by the attacks, and if he gets red-barred you'll get a message that the Dagannoth have overcome him & recaptured him, and you'll have to start over. A good strategy is not to rush through this area, but stay back and fight the first few Dagannoth that appear, then after you kill them, move on and attack the rest, so that King Vargas isn't being attacked by all of the Dagannoth in that room. Another good strategy would to have Ancient Magicks and Ice Burst the Dagannoths. If you don't want to fight the Dagannoths, you can turn off your auto-retaliate and focus on leading King Vargas through. When he gets to about half health, use some food on him to restore his Hitpoints.

Out of the three times you spelt "Wallasalki", two have been capitalized, so capitalize the first one aswell.

"overcome him & recaptured him" would be better as "overcome & recaputred him" to avoid repeating words.

As to the Ice Burst strategy, I'm sure Ice Barrage would work just as well as Ice Burst. -.-

And about the last part, you may want to state that if Vargas is being attacked, you'll have to kill his attackers, since he can't climb ladders while being attacked.

Hum. Interesting! I couldn't give him food fast enough, with all the dagganoth ganging up on him... and even when I got him to the foot of the ladder once, it wouldn't let me climb up it.

As to the Ice Burst strategy, I'm sure Ice Barrage would work just as well as Ice Burst. -.-

Heh. I'm sure it would... if you have a high enough Magic level. :)

Finally killed dag boss.

most importantly poison works: I used only sapphire bolts (e) for range. I was getting the green 5 splash damage and the graphics of the spill under the boss. I tried to time my screenshots but did not get one showing the green splash.

I attacked with balmung initially then stepped away and only did mage/range. had ahrims top/bottom, unholy book, rune cbos,niet helm,fury, no boots, exp ring 3 equipped. rocktail in turtle and inv. range pot. pray switch mage range protect. never meleed boss.

When repelling the daggermouth assault and u tele out u need to talk to chief brundt to restart assault.

at end of quest dont forget to get seal of passage from chief brundt when getting rewards
