I Like Pie739
The other day I finished Life of Pi. It's a great book. For the summer, I will be reading some of the books for next year so I can worry less. Those would include 1984, The Crucible, King Lear, etc. OH GOLLY LIFE OF PI CANNOT UNREAD. One of my least favorite books ever, and the only book I've ever been assigned for English that I flatly refused to finish. I feel so sorry for you. Life of Pi was one of the worst books I have ever almost finished reading. I had to read it for a class, but I only made it 2/3 of the way into the book then chucked it at the wall and walked out of my room. I never have (and never will) finish reading this book. What's with all the hate against Life of Pi!? I found it a great book! So interesting on so many levels!

I know that it has so many symbolic levels and meanings, but I just never found it interesting. It is the only book that I have ever been forced to read for a class and have never finished. Xaria
What's with all the hate against Life of Pi!? I found it a great book! So interesting on so many levels! The character Pi rubbed me the wrong way. I like to be able to sympathize with characters and become emotionally invested in their story, but was utterly unable to in this case. Plus, I'm terrible at finding symbolism and layers of meaning in texts, so that part of the book didn't appeal to me. It didn't help that every person I knew who'd read it was practically falling over themselves to express what a good book it is - there was no way it could have lived up to the hype. As for what I've been reading lately, I recently finished a non-fiction book called Introvert Power by psychologist Laurie Helgoe. It doesn't look like much from the cover, but it turned out to be an interesting read. It talks about assumptions about introversion and extroversion in our society, dispels some myths, and explains in depth what it means to be an introvert, among other things. It's a welcome change to finally hear someone saying you're not a psychopath just because you enjoy your alone time.
William Howard Taft
I've been reading through Lies My Teacher Told Me by James Loewen. It's come on some recommendations so I figured I'd go check it out.

As
I've just started Watership Down, I've enjoyed what I've read so far and the perspective of the rabbits is interesting. As

Druin
I finished reading A Princess of Landover by Terry Brooks several weeks ago. Next up is probably going to be The Gypsy Morph by the same author. It's been on my to-read list for ages, but every time I try searching for it in nearby libraries it's always checked out or not available. Three cheers for the fantasy genre! Romance of the Three Kingdoms by Luo Guanzhong has also piqued my interest. I started playing Dynasty Warriors again and it renewed my interest in the novel (really fascinating stuff). I think I'll end up buying a copy.
finisterra
I've just finished reading the first part of Don Quijote, by Miguel de Cervantes. I've started the second part, and I have about 400 pages left. I should really take a day off Runescape and finish this haha.
Hyrax
Everyone should read Albert Camus' L'Étranger. It's my all time favourite by a mile. Also, a lot of stuff by Will Self is brilliant.
Traviesa
Finished Doorways to Poetry -- an excellent book overall, and I learned a lot from it. The dead white man obsession is forgivable in Untermeyer's time and place, and they wrote pretty poetry. EDIT: The Outsider is probably my favourite book by Camus -- a disgustingly readable book about one of the most repulsive characters ever created.
