I play a fair bit of SC2 when I'm not working my behind off at school. I'm Zerg, rank 2 in my platty league, on EU servers. I'll probably be back to it in 4 weeks or so, and I'd love to give some Sal'speople a few games :D

@ Naota: I played Zerg straight off the bat, and didn't find it particularly hard. I got dumped in gold after my newbie games + placement matches having never played the original SC or much RTS (except AoE2, awesome!).

Edit: You're on EU servers, right Goggie? I forsee funtimes :(

There's this new custom map out that lets you do WHATEVER you want. It's friggin amazing. I don't remember what it's called, but it's under the 'Roleplay' category. You should take a look at tit when yo u get the chance.

Sounds a lot like the hugely popular Dragonball Z and Naruto RPG's on Warcraft 3.

Also played a mod the other day which is basically Uther Party for StarCraft, it's fun as hell to play, it's all mini games. :D

Sounds like the classic "RP" maps.

First made popular on StarCraft: Broodwars.

You can do (as you say) anything you want.

It's for Roleplayers who make towns and villages... I remember trying them out.

WC3 adapted it next, as the players who advanced from SC:BW. Volc is a famous map maker for these kinds of maps in WC3/SC, so I wouldn't be surprised if he made one for SC2.

I don't think it was Volc.

Here is the link to the creator's home page, but I don't think it was Volc.

I don't play many custom maps, the ones on the EU aren't as great support-wise.

Favorite BOs, people?

I tend to 15 pool 14 hatch vs. T/Z on most maps, 15 pool 16 hatch vs. P. Close positions and team games I'm a big fan of 11 overpool 18 hatch.

I don't think I've ever won against Protoss as Zerg now that I think about it. What are people's suggestions as ZvP? I really hate Colossus. The best counter are Corruptors but I find that they're too specialised and Stalkers can easily take them down.

The best advice I can give you is to scout loads. Newer players tend to neglect scouting, as well as taking out scouts. It's so incredibly crucial. Get an overseer in there, running around and letting you know the enemy's army composition.

Ummm I can go replay trawling for you later tonight. Generally you NEED corruptors against collossi, since after they get 1 or 2 mass roach doesn't quite cut it. Just tech Hive/Greater Spire when your third is up and running nicely, and start morphing in some BLs to go with your corruptors and land army.

General game of this sort goes something like:

Gateway units vs. Speedings/Roaches (you may not even need the lings)

Lots of gateway units and a colossus vs. Roach/Hydra (make sure you have at least 2 roaches per hydra, and the hydra range upgrade)

Mass stalker/chargelot + mass colossus vs. Roach/Hydra/Corruptor/Brood Lords

Just try to stay ahead in base count, and if you can learn to retreat units when they're getting damaged then return them to firing when they lose aggro (most basic form of micro), it works wonders in the low leagues. Don't be afraid of expanding.

I recommend you look up 'PsyStarcraft' on Youtube. He's a strong zerg player and makes funny (if sometimes a little inappropriate) casts of his own games.

Colossi are friggin AWESOME, but only if you've got 5-6. They can be overpowered if there are things that are flanking them, so it's best to use them in mass groups so they can basically attack 360 degrees and essentially protect each other.

Heroic Carrier is Heroic, managed to keep reuniting to base on his own and got 60 kills :D

also: Eggy rages

Man, I hate Carriers. One time I was playing against Protoss and he walled in with cannons. Since I'm in bronze, It thought he was kinda new and was playing very defensively so I decided to outmacro him. Took most of the bases and I was ready to attack with 2-2 roaches/hydras. Then I see a goddamn mothership and some carriers so I retreat and begin massing corruptors but he destroys my whole army with them.

I love making people rage though. There's nothing better than throwing mass banelings vs mass marines.

Anyone play on the NA servers at all? Ever?

Sometimes I go on them if I feel like a break from the SEA servers but thats about it.

I think I'm confident enough now. Anyone up for a game? Also I'm trying to find someone who's willing to do a mothership ultralisk rush with me.

Mass carriers are fun.

Just saying. Makes me lag a bit though.

Don't forget the mother ship.

You can't mass motherships. God, if you could, that would be awesome.

Hello ladies and gents. In my search for a game to mess around with other than runescape and minecraft, i have stumbled across a LARGE amount of recommendations for SC2. I was wondering if it is truly worth the money, also is it free to play online? or a pay-to-play thing like WOW? That will greatly influence my ideas. Another thing i would like to know is how fast-paced it is. I played Age of Empires and the slow and monotonous gameplay always bored me, get resources, build army, attack until other guys dead, rinse and repeat if necessary, there wasnt much strategy to it imo and if there was it was minimal. I hope SC2 isnt like that. I thought what better peopl to ask than my fellow slammers. Any replies areappreciated, im going to read through this thread once as well. :D

It's free to play online. The game is very well designed. It can go either way. You can have early rushes that make the game last 5 minutes or huge macro games that last 30 minutes. There's a lot of strategy to it that I can't really explain if you aren't familiar with it. One thing I suggest is to watch some videos of people playing. The TSL is on at the moment with some pretty big players. You can find the streams on the Team Liquid which is probably your best source for everything.

You need to pay an initial price of $60 for the game, but it's only a one-time payment and then you have it for life.
