Hyrax
In memory of the original MRT that Rufus created, I decided to bring a new one to life. If not because it was my favourite thread, then because it was hugely popular and I don't know how it died. Come here to recommend music, to discover new music, to find music similar to music you already like or to just talk music. You're welcome to discuss anything about music here. So go nuts. I guess I'll begin... I bought the new Knife album yesterday. It's an opera based on Darwin's "On The Origin Of Species". It's like absolutely nothing I've ever heard. Like Philip Glass and Steve Reich had a baby with Fever Ray and the baby wrote an opera. It's called "Tomorrow, In A Year" and I urge everyone to listen to the track "Colouring of Pigeons". December 2012 Update: I'm totally pleased this thread is going strong after about two and a half years. However, I just need to sharpen up the rules to keep this thread the way I intended it to be. It seems the thread is slightly slipping into a succession of posts that contain just embedded YouTube videos with little or no information. Pages filled head to toe with these videos can cause a little trouble for those of us with less desirable internet providers. Please also remember this is the Music Recommendations Thread, you should be making recommendations. Don't just post your new favourite song and leave. Let us know what the genre is, who it sounds like and what kind of people you think would enjoy it. Also feel free to ask if anyone can suggest music for you that sound similar. This is not a What Are You Listening To? thread, it's for people to help people who are looking for new music and to recommend music you are listening to in an effective way. So, here are two simple rules to keep things in the true spirit of this thread. If you are posting music and not asking for a recommendation then... 1. Include with your recommendation a description of the music (genre, style, similar artists) and who you recommend it to specifically. 2. Do not embed videos, simply provide links to them. This will keep the pages from being too clogged up. Thank you, music lovers. Edited December 2, 2012 by Hyrax
Mr Summers
I would like to recommend The Shins to anyone who likes some good alternative music. Specifically Wincing the Night Away, one of the best albums I own.
As
If not because it was my favourite thread, then because it was hugely popular and I don't know how it died. Probably due to the absence of iToast and jack-nicholson and to an extent you haven't been to active either! As

Satoshi
If you like metalcore, The Word Alive, Oh Sleeper, Haste the Day, Underoath, and The Devil Wears Prada. If you like post-hardcore, From First to Last. If you want a band that's post-hardcore but with a big emphasis on screams, then try We Came As Romans. If you like indie music, Tokyo Police Club. If you like crunkcore, Family Force 5. If you like Boys Like Girls, Attack! Attack! UK. If you like power-pop, Barely Blind. If you like metalcore but would like no clean vocals, The Chariot. If you're into love songs but you like post-hardcore and metalcore, Hawthorne Heights. If you like electronica, but you think it needs some guitars, The Medic Droid. If you like electronica and metalcore and think they would sound great together, Sky Eats Airplane and Attack Attack!. If you like J-rock, UVERworld and Beat Crusaders. If you like punk, Rise Against. Edited July 18, 2010 by Raian the Fallen

Hyrax
My Last.FM library gives you an idea of what I dig. Feel free to add me if you're on there. I would like to recommend The Shins to anyone who likes some good alternative music. Specifically Wincing the Night Away, one of the best albums I own. I can't decide if I like Wincing The Night Away or Oh, Inverted World more. If not because it was my favourite thread, then because it was hugely popular and I don't know how it died. Probably due to the absence of iToast and jack-nicholson and to an extent you haven't been to active either! As I confess this is true. I'm making an almighty comeback though. J Dilla, Madlib, MF DOOM, Oh No, Quasimoto, Madvillain, Jaylib, DJ Shadow, The Avalanches, Nujabes, CYNE, 88-Keys, Little Brother, 9th Wonder, Murs Some of my favorite hip-hop I completely agree with you from J Dilla to The Avalanches, but after that I don't know any of the others. But due to the awesomeness of the first 9 artists you listed, I will check out the rest. Edited July 18, 2010 by Mr Grieves

Ramon
Hey guys, I found this awesome band called Radiohead. I don't know if anyone here's heard of them (they're pretty obscure), but I like their album Ok Computer.
Goglmogl
If you're into Dark/Doom Metal or stuff around that, I recommened Agalloch. Slow pace, not many lyrics, it's to relax your state of mind. (Matej got me into them. :)) If you're into metalcore/Post-hardcore, Escape the Fate is amazing. A new band: Falling in Reverse should be around those genres. Pop: Lady GaGa. Pretty much, if you have anything around my Genres, please, suggest.
Samsara
The Gogl: I suggest you give Silverstein a try. They're a great band that have a post-hardcore ish sound. I bought the new Parkway Drive album Deep Blue, and after a couple of listens, I find it amazing. Anyone have any thoughts on it? Also, anyone else excited for The Devil Wears Prada's new Zombie EP?
