Doom Posted February 17, 2011 Posted February 17, 2011 There's a topic for I think most of the other sports, but not basketball, so I thought I'd start one. :D Starting off, I've been a Laker's fan for most of my life. I was watching the Cavs/Lakers game tonight expecting a win by a pretty big margin against the Cavs(considering they lost by over 50 last time they faced the lakers). To say the last, I was disappointed, somewhat in the Lakers themselves but also at some of what I felt were ridiculous calls. I know they had a bunch of bad plays and turnovers but I still felt that the refs seemed to be calling fouls anytime the cavs even got bumped whereas I felt that they didn't call enough defensive fouls for the lakers. They called a foul on brown and sent the cavs to the line with like 40 seconds left in the game just because he basically bumped a guy. If anybody else watched it, let me know what you think. Quote
Kemosabe Posted February 18, 2011 Posted February 18, 2011 I don't follow NBA at all, but I do enjoy watching a game if it's on. My brother bought me a Celtics mini-basketball when I was younger, so really since then I've been a Celtics fan. Quote
_Zj Posted February 18, 2011 Posted February 18, 2011 Disappointing is an understatement for the Lakers last night.... I'm a huge Lakers fan and it was just sad to see them lose to the Cavs... I mean come on. The game wasn't officiated well, but it shouldn't have been close in the first place. The Cavs should have no business competing with the Lakers, it should have been a blowout. But once again, the Lakers continue to prove to me that they may be losing their competitive aggressiveness. I guess those kinds of games happen though. Quote
Arianna Posted February 18, 2011 Posted February 18, 2011 I am a masochist, and support Atlanta. Sticks and stones may break my bones but never reaching the play-offs has become a habit! :D (May not apply to the last two seasons) Quote
heb0 Posted February 18, 2011 Posted February 18, 2011 I never watch the NBA mostly because I feel like its run down court > shoot > other team run down court > shoot, whereas college has a slower pace and is a bit less repetitive. Still, my team is Detroit. :D Quote
Vaskor Posted February 18, 2011 Posted February 18, 2011 I've been fortunate to be San Antonio Spurs fan for the last 13 years or so. Subsequently Lakers and Mavericks are two teams I usually root against :D I did watch the last quarter of Lakers vs Cavs game and couldn't see any kind of bad refereeing happening there. Lakers simply couldn't stop energized Cavs, that was all. It is well known fact that fans of competing teams tend to see the same foul calls and ref decisions in completely different lights. There is no objectivity in this field whatsoever. Quote

College players aren't playing for money, they are playing because they love the game. Most of the college games I go to I am very understanding about calls, whereas many fans have no idea what a charge is or isn't. But in the whole scheme of things, your statement is correct. The officiating in the NBA just seems so different from night to night for me. At least in college you generally know what you're going to get, depending on the conference.. Quote

The mavs consistently finish as one of the top teams in the west but they're really not good enough to compete. It's a shame thouh because dirk is one of he bests at his position Quote

Mr Summers Posted February 19, 2011 Posted February 19, 2011 Following the Knicks this year. Ive been watching a few games here and there - They look alright. I usually pay more attention to the NBA but the Canucks have just been amazing this year in Vancouver - telepathic twins FTW. Quote

I feel like professional games turn into circuses of talent and athletic ability while college has more strategy because not everyone is incredibly fast, incredibly strong and incredibly arrogant. :P Edited February 19, 2011 by heb0 Quote

I can't really help that Mavericks keep consistently underachieving in play-offs. P.S. Oh, and by the way, writing profanities and insults in BIG letters won't help them either. Quote
