This guide will teach you how to fight and kill the mighty Tormented Demons. Please be aware this monster is EXTREMELY DANGEROUS and can kill you extremely quickly, please only try and kill them if you are willing to lose your equipment as odds are they will kill at least one time before you fully understand the technique. Although they are a difficult monster, they drop the mighty Dragon Claws and the several pieces needed to smith the Dragon Platebody (made from: Ruined Dragon Armour Slice, Ruined Dragon Armour Lump and Ruined Dragon Armour Shard).

Section 1: Requirements
Section 2: Equipment
Section 3: Getting There
Section 4: Time for Battle

Section 1: Requirements

The first and most important requirement needed for Tormented Demons is the completion of While Guthix Sleeps, on top of this you need to keep the Sapphire Lantern that you used to descend into the area where the final showdown in the quest takes place. The last essential piece of equipment you need is the Darklight Sword, it is needed to lower the shields of the demons. These are the levels that are recommended that you have the following levels before even attempting this boss:

  • - 80+ Attack, Strength and Defence
    - 80+ Range
    - 70+ Prayer
    - 79+ Summoning
    - 80+ Constitution

These levels are just a minimum recommendation, it is suggested that you get much higher levels closer to those listed below:

  • - 90+ Attack, Strength and Defence
    - 90+ Range
    - 80+ Prayer
    - 88+ Summoning
    - 90+ Constitution
    - 88+ Herblore

Section 2: Equipment

Something to note before we go into equipment and armour, you will always need to bring at least two methods of attacking like Melee and Range. In terms of armour there are several methods that you can use, but no matter what armour you have it will not protect you from their variety of attacks so you will need to Prayer swap, but we will get to that later. First let's talk about all the choices of armour you can use (please note, you can tweak all of the armour sets the more experience you get, these are just recommendations):

Void Armour
Barrows Armour
Welfare Armour
Pro Armour (Unicorn)
Pro Armour (Steel Titan)

Void Armour

Void Armour is great for a boss like this as it requires you attack with several attack methods and you can easily change a few pieces of equipment and keep high damage for all of your attack styles. With Void an extra risk is added to the demons, Void has very low defensive stats and because of this unless you are a master of prayer swapping, odds are you will be hit hard and often. This is the set of armour that I recommend, please note the shield slot can be swapped out if you want more defensive or offensive stats.

equipmentvoid.png

  • - Void Melee Helm = Void Range Helm
    - Amulet of Fury > Amulet of Glory
    - Elite Void Knight Top > Void Knight Top
    - Elite Void Knight Robe > Void Knight Robe
    - Dragon Boots > Bandos Boots
    - Melee Chaotic = Chaotic Crossbow > Abyssal Whip = Rune Crossbow
    - Unholy Book > Dragonfire Shield
    - Void Knight Gloves
    - Fremennik ring = Ring Of Wealth
    - Soul Wars Cape >Trimmed Cape of Achievement > Fire Cape
    - Diamond Bolts (e) > Broad Bolts

As was said before, you need to have at least two methods of attacking the demons which is why the weapons and helmet choices are listed as being equal to each other. After you have that equipment, it is recommended that you assemble this inventory, however whichever weapon you choose to equip you need to carry the other one in your inventory. If you have high level Herblore then use the highest level potion available to you:

voidinventory.png

  • - Darklight
    - Enchanted Excalibur (or another Special Attack weapon if you wish)
    - Sapphire Lantern
    - One click teleport
    - Secondary Weapon
    - Secondary Void Helmet
    - 1 Super Attack, Super Strength and Range Potion
    - 5 Prayer Potions
    - 3 Saradomin Brews and 1 Super Restore Potion (3 sips of brew for every 1 sip of restore)
    - 8 Rocktails
    - 1 Unicorn Pouch and some Special Attack Scrolls

Barrows Armour

Barrows is the much safer option to this boss, you get high offensive and defensive bonuses with this set up. You may not deal as much damage as you do with Void but you will hit more often and damage you take will be less and slightly absorbed by the armour. It is also much less of an effort swapping attack styles with this armour as all you need to do is change you weapon. This is the recommended setup with Barrows:

equipmentbarrows.png

  • - Veracs Helmet
    - Amulet of Fury > Amulet of Glory
    - Karils Leather Top
    - Veracs Plateskirt
    - Dragon Boots > Bandos Boots
    - Melee Chaotic = Chaotic Crossbow > Abyssal Whip = Rune Crossbow
    - Unholy Book > Dragonfire Shield
    - Leather Gloves (Barrows)
    - Fremennik ring = Ring Of Wealth
    - Soul Wars Cape >Trimmed Cape of Achievement > Fire Cape
    - Diamond Bolts (e) > Broad Bolts

The same rules apply as with the last inventory, however because of the higher defensive stats of Barrows I would suggest you bring a Ring of Wealth along in your inventory and swap to it when you are about to finish off a Tormented Demon so that you can take advantage of the better drops:

barrowsinventorys.png

  • - Darklight
    - Enchanted Excalibur (or another Special Attack weapon if you wish)
    - Sapphire Lantern
    - One click teleport
    - Secondary Weapon
    - Ring of Wealth
    - 1 Super Attack, Super Strength and Range Potion
    - 5 Prayer Potions
    - 3 Saradomin Brews and 1 Super Restore Potion (3 sips of brew for every 1 sip of restore)
    - 8 Rocktails
    - 1 Unicorn Pouch and some Special Attack Scrolls

Welfare Armour

This equipment is much cheaper than the other sets but still offers decent defensive bonus'. The assumption made here is that because you can't afford high end equipment you can't afford to use a high end familiar so this setup uses a War Tortoise, thereis an extra picture showing the familiar inventory as well. The armour setup is:

equipmentwelfare.png

  • - Helm of Neitiznot
    - Amulet of Glory
    - Black Dragonhide Top
    - Veracs Plateskirt
    - Dragon Boots > Bandos Boots
    - Abyssal Whip = Rune Crossbow
    - Unholy Book > Granite Shield
    - Leather Gloves (Barrows)
    - Fremennik ring = Ring Of Wealth
    - Soul Wars Cape >Trimmed Cape of Achievement > Fire Cape
    - Broad Bolts

Once again, the same rules apply with the inventory, because you aren't using a healing familiar you can afford a few more bits of food in the inventory and fill your Beast of Burden with the food you are using. Before you inventory up, summon your Beast of Burden and fill it with food then gather the following:

welfareinventory.png

  • - Darklight
    - Enchanted Excalibur (or another Special Attack weapon if you wish)
    - Sapphire Lantern
    - One click teleport
    - Secondary Weapon
    - Ring of Wealth
    - 1 Super Attack, Super Strength and Range Potion
    - 5 Prayer Potions
    - 3 Saradomin Brews and 1 Super Restore Potion (3 sips of brew for every 1 sip of restore)
    - 10 Rocktails

Familiar Inventory:

familiarinventory.png

Pro Armour (Unicorn)

This equipment setup is just for Pro's. You need to have a lot of experience in Tormented Demons and Prayer swapping so that you take as little damage as possible:

proinventuni.png

  • - Helm of Neitiznot
    - Amulet of Fury
    - Black Dragonhide Top
    - Black Dragonhide Chaps
    - Dragon Boots > Bandos Boots
    - Melee Chaotic = Chaotic Crossbow > Abyssal Whip = Rune Crossbow
    - Dragon Defender
    - Leather Gloves (Barrows)
    - Fremennik ring = Ring Of Wealth
    - Soul Wars Cape >Trimmed Cape of Achievement > Fire Cape
    - Diamond Bolts (e)

This time the inventory is also just for pros as you can see there is very little healing in it, really you shouldn't use this setup unless you can actually make everything in this inventory:

prouniinvent.png

  • - Dragon Claws
    - Darklight
    - Secondary Weapon
    - Sapphire Lantern
    - 4 Overload Potions
    - 17 Prayer Potions
    - 2 Unicorn Pouches and some Scrolls

Pro Armour (Steel Titan)

This is another set of pro equipment, except instead of healing via the Unicorn familiar you use a Steel Titan to drastically increase your kills per hour rate. This is riskier than the previous invent so don't try it until you are a pro:

proswapperan.png

  • - Helm of Neitiznot
    - Amulet of Fury
    - Black Dragonhide Top
    - Black Dragonhide Chaps
    - Dragon Boots > Bandos Boots
    - Melee Chaotic = Chaotic Crossbow > Abyssal Whip = Rune Crossbow
    - Dragon Defender
    - Leather Gloves (Barrows)
    - Fremennik ring = Ring Of Wealth
    - Fire Cape
    - Diamond Bolts (e)

The only difference between the inventory for this and the Unicorn setup is that you have to include some Saradomin Brews so that you can heal:

aninvent.png

  • - Dragon Claws
    - Darklight
    - Secondary weapon
    - Sapphire Lantern
    - Steel Titan and some Scrolls
    - 2 Overload Potions
    - 7 Saradomin Brews
    - 13 Prayer Potions

Something to note(this only works on the first three luring spots), you can bring a dragon halberd as your primary weapon against the demons and it allows you to stay out of their melee range as well as giving you some huge special attack damage. You have seen the equipment that you should aim to get now, but there is a couple of things that you should know about these inventories and some precautions you should take. The amount of food in these inventories is well over what you need, this is just so that you can get the feel for the boss and not have to worry about dieing but I suggest the more relaxed you become at the Demons, the less food you should bring. You should keep this pattern up until eventually you are bring no food but your unicorn which should be more than enough per trip. If you do not have a unicorn and are relying on normal food or potions for healing, then stick with the welfare setup and gradually reduce the amount of rocktails you bring. Incase that you actually do die, there is something I insist you do before going down into the demons layer, make extra Sapphire Lanterns! If you die you will need another lantern to get back down to your grave, and normally it will take you 2-3 mins tops to get down there, so if you die just relax go to your bank and run to your grave; you will make it.

Section 3: Getting There

Getting to the Tormented Demons is very easy to do, there is a map below showing the route you take from the Lumbridge Cellar:

firststageroute.png

Very simply, once you get into the main dungeon through the hole in the Lumbridge cellar, head as south as you can go and make your way into the cave where you can do Tears of Guthix. You use the same method as you would with Tears except instead of crossing the Chasm you go into it:

intothechasm.png

After you get into the cave follow the same route you took during While Guthix Sleeps, until you get close to the area that you found the Stone of Jas, when you get close stop and prepare yourself. In the next area you are going to encounter the Tormented Demons and I suggest that you stop and make sure that you are calm and make sure to read the next section of the guide as it is VITAL to your survival in your showdown.

Section 4: Time for Battle

For fighting Tormented Demons there are three techniques that you need to learn, they aren't particularly difficult, however I suggest that you practice the second of the techniques a bit before hand. Lets get started with the first technique, Luring:

Technique 1: Luring

There are 4 spots to lure the Tormented Demons, some are better than others and some require less effort to lure the Tormented Demon but the easier it is to lure them the more likely you are to get crashed by a second Demon popping in to ruin your spot. Lets talk about the first spot, it's the spot for the beginner and it's very common for you to get attacked by multiple demons unless the world is full of people and the other demons are lured. This spot is to the west of the Demon room and is right as you walk in. Its very simple to lure the demon, normally all you have to do is stand slightly out of the lure area and when he attacks you pull it in by walking back to the pillar as shown in the picture:

firstlurespot.png

This lure works both ways, you can go in the opposite path, only if the demon is to the north of the pillar instead of south. This spot is pretty bad however, two demons frequently walk past it unless they are also being lured by someone which means odds are you are going to get crashed by a different demon, so it suggested that you use one of the other spots.

The second lure spot is slightly more stable than the first, but you can still be unlucky and have a second demon follow you up. When running to this spot, it is advisable to run up to it with the protect from magic pray activated as the demons will most likely use magic attacks as this is what they start with. There is a remedy to this though, get to the safe spot that you lure into and log out for 15 seconds, this causes the demons to no longer target you and move away but if you lured your target demon just right then it will remain stuck and in the area that you need it to be in. You can also lure the second demon down and trap it on the rock just west of this spot which is the preferred method as it stops the demon from ever crashing you again. Follow the path shown in the picture and you should get the perfect lure on your target demon:

secondlurespot.png

When using this spot, go on to the Runescape Official Forums and look for people looking for a partner on the western rock, if you get one you will have someone to lure the demon to the east as well making this the best spot to use. The catch with this spot is that it is normally in use and you will have to hop a few worlds before you get the chance to control it.

The third lure spot is the easiest to keep other demons away, because if you get crashed by another demon you can lure a demon down into the second lure spot and be free from crashing. Once again with this spot run up to it with Protect from Magic active and when you get to the safe zone you are free to world hop while looking for an open spot on this world. To lure the demon in, I advise you have your crossbow equipped and take a shot at the passing demon who likes to use the North Eastern Pillars as cover, if you manage to get a hit on him just run back to the safe spot and he will walk into the lure perfectly:

thirdlurespot.png

The technique on luring the crasher demon is shown in this image. The first spot is where you stand to take the shot at the demon, then run to the second for a few seconds to get the demon round the pillar and finally into the safe zone so that the demon is in the perfect spot.

The final lure spot is to the far north and is the hardest of all the luring spots, it requires several steps and to stay in open range of the Demons, just follow the steps in the pictures:

finallurespotstepone.png

Stand in this area to get the Demons to target you;

finallurespotsteptwo.png

Move down into this area to bring the demons further north;

finallurespotstepthree.png

Moving here will help bring the demons into a circle around you;

finallurespotstepfour.png

This is the final spot, in this position stand beside the demon to attack him and make sure that when the Protect from Melee head appears above its head get the Steel Titan(you must first call it or it will not be able to help you) to attack with its special dealing heavy damage, this is how you get a higher kill count per hour. This spot is EXTREMELY dangerous to those who aren't prepared, but it offers you a spot without other players that could potentially ruin your lure. Now that you know the luring spots, we move onto technique two, spotting which type of attack the demon is doing.

Technique 2: Prayer Swapping

If you have ever read a guide on how to fight Jad, a similar technique is used here. You need to keep an eye on the movements of the Tormented Demon and from that you can predict what attack he is going to use. You can also guess when the Demon is going to change its attack style as it is normally changed just after he does his group mage attack. Below is a picture of each of the attacks the Demon does (Mage, Range, Melee and Group Mage):

Mage Attack

The best way to describe this attack is that it looks like the Demon is blowing on you, like how you would blow out some candles. The actual attack looks like an old graphics style firebolt, it is highlighted in this image:

tdmageattack.png

Range Attack

This attack looks like the demon is scratching his stomach and then throwing something at you. The actual attack looks like a small dart with parts falling off it flying at you, it is highlighted in this image:

tdrangeattack.png

Melee Attack

This attack is very obvious, the demon just tries to slash you, but here is a picture anyway:

tdmeleeattack.png

Group Mage Attack

This is also very easy to spot, the demon makes a large roar before he does this, here is a picture just before he launches the attack:

tdgroupmageattack.png

Technique 3: Hybriding

This is the simplest of the techniques, all you have to do is watch the protection prayer that the demon is doing and attack in a style that isn't the one shown. This is why you bring multiple forms of attacking, however it is important to note that damage is not as important as you watching his attacks. Your primary focus should be to watch the attacks and when you have the right prayer swap your weapons, what I do to make this process a lot faster is to use Fkeys, F1 swaps to your inventory which lets you pick your weapons and F3 swaps to your Prayer interface which lets you swap your prayers faster. What I like to do is line up my weapons so that they are on the same row as the Protection Prayers to further speed up the process. It is also worth noting that F5 brings up the weapon interface allowing you to do special attacks quickly as well. The last thing you need to know to fight these demons is to take down the demons shield, this is what it looks like:

tddemonshield.png

Normally when you first encounter the demon you will notice it always uses the Protect from Melee prayer, first thing you need to do is get it to turn that off and switch to Protect from Range. You do this by wasting some bolts and just shooting the demons, Diamond Bolts (e) speed this up slightly by hitting through his shield and prayer, a small bit of damage is needed to make him swap (or a bunch of misses), as soon as it swaps to its Protect from Range prayer you swap to your Darklight and start hitting. At this point I drink a dose of my Super Potions so I have a better chance of hitting him, any damage at all from your Darklight will lower his shield and that's when the real damage starts. When it's shield is down you attack with your main weapons in response to whatever protection prayer it is using. When you deal around 310 Lifepoints (around 165 experience) worth of damage it will swap prayer so generally if you see a 310 or hit a total of 310 just change your weapon, it has a small delay on its prayer swap but as soon as you hit the 310 he has swapped even if it doesn't show. You will probably have to take down his shield more than once so keep an eye out for the fire cage forming on the demon. When the demon does drop it's loot run out quickly and grab the good stuff, then quickly back to your safe spot. Now you know how to deal with Tormented Demons!

Looks delish already.

Increase the size of the Sections so they aren't mistaken with the armor setups.

I wouldn't be able to help out with getting content as I'm not high-leveled enough for TDs, but I can definitely help out with coding, linking, some picture editing (save transparencies - I'm terrible with those) and spell/grammar checking.

Good luck on the guide :D

Thanks

Couldn't you also you rfd gloves/void deflector instead of unholy book?

Like I said in the guide, you can tweak things to yourself, but I think higher prayer bonus is better than a little extra defence. Makes trips last a bit longer.

Need any help on lures or fixing them? I'm pretty good with those, just from my experiences. I can usually fix a lure of 3 even if they are in completely different spots. This would be in the South Spot I believe.

I can help out on diff types of gear or how to go about killing them, and probably pics of when they switch attack styles/prays. Also higher leveled gear, such as Extremes/Overloads, Titans/Unis.

Because I bring more Ppots, because my trips tend to last longer.

PM me if you need help/questions, because I sometimes forget.

I use extremes aswell, I just prefer in a guide to use the lower level potion so that everyone knows what it is. If you would be so kind as to take photos of the south lure spot that would be great.

Don't want to start a lengthy Chaotic debate, but couldnt Maul be better then CR because of the high hits? To be honest, you should put down Chaotics > Abyssal whip etc

Demons have such a low defence I would say speed is all important against them, ill add Mauls in but I really wouldnt put it higher than the Rapier.

No mention of void lol

so what's this then? :L

- Void Melee Helm = Void Range Helm

- Amulet of Fury > Amulet of Glory

- Elite Void Knight Top > Void Knight Top

- Elite Void Knight Robe > Void Knight Robe

- Dragon Boots > Bandos Boots

- Melee Chaotic = Chaotic Crossbow > Abyssal Whip = Rune Crossbow

- Unholy Book > Dragonfire Shield

- Void Knight Gloves

- Ring Of Life = Ring Of Wealth

- Soul Wars Cape >Trimmed Cape of Achievement > Fire Cape

- Diamond Bolts (e) > Broad Bolts

The correct spelling is "Helm of Nietzinot"

I buffed up the pictures for the lure spots. Mainly, I cropped out the chatbox and side panels, and added the mini-map into the picture. Kinda hard to explain, but just see for yourself:

The correct spelling is "Helm of Nietzinot"
