Joyful Lemon Posted May 2, 2011 Posted May 2, 2011 I get them alot in the fun n games section, even if there hasn't been a post for an hour or so I still have to try about three times sometimes Quote
Yuanrang Posted May 2, 2011 Posted May 2, 2011 Hmmm, works fine for me if you're talking about the same thing I'm thinking about. Are you clicking the button multiple times? If it's slow to load and you click it twice, it'll count within the limit, triggering it. If you just check it once though, how long does it say the cooldown period is? It's necessary to have it there since, you know, it's flood control but the question is if it's bugged or not. Quote
Kesthetic Posted May 2, 2011 Posted May 2, 2011 Yes I get flood control messages when I tried searching thread made by this user and member profile. It says 30 second cooldown period. I didn't retry after because I couldn't be bothered. Quote
Ambo100 Posted May 2, 2011 Posted May 2, 2011 I'm going to quote myself from another topic. You also get flood control for searches. I get this all the time on chrome. You have to middle click 'Find Member's Topics' to open it in a new window. This will actually open two windows and only one of them will show you your topics, the other comes up with a flood controll message. I know it's a pain but that's the only way I know to get around the problem. It's purpose is to prevent overloading the servers. Quote
Ghostfoot Posted May 2, 2011 Posted May 2, 2011 I just logged on. And I hit "View new posts" ONCE. And I got flood control. Waited 20 seconds and it worked. But still, i get it a hell of a lot. Quote
Yuanrang Posted May 2, 2011 Posted May 2, 2011 It might be a browser related issue where it's a double load. Flood control is basically a system the forum use so people can't mass spam actions like searching for information, overloading everything. By forcing one search per X seconds (for Retired Moderators, it's 20 seconds), you remove the issue because you'd need a lot of users to cause the server to be flooded. However, if you mass-click (as in request multiple times) the search option(s), the first will register but the following searches will overwrite it and take you straight to the flooding screen. Some browsers might also load multiple times and cause that problem unintentionally. The solution is to do the search, get the flood control message, and then just refresh the page. It means you won't do it as fast as you'd want, but it's a way around it if you don't want to fix the core problem (your browser), because there's no way in hell the Flood Protection will be removed. :D Quote
Fatalysm Posted May 2, 2011 Posted May 2, 2011 Can't we just get rid of flood control for people with 'x' amount of posts or something. I know post count isn't an accurate count of who's been here and can be trusted but it doesn't exactly have to be insanely high. Quote
B0b2oo0 Posted May 3, 2011 Author Posted May 3, 2011 Every timr for me its a single click. Generally its when trying to click on yours or someone's recent posts or topics. Quote
B0b2oo0 Posted May 3, 2011 Author Posted May 3, 2011 (edited) Yes. It just hit me that this prob should have gone in the tech section too. :D sorry. Feel free to move it. Edited May 3, 2011 by b0b2oo0 Quote
Yero2000 Posted May 3, 2011 Posted May 3, 2011 Well, I don't use Chrome and never have done and I ALWAYS get this problem. Quote
amJordan Posted May 4, 2011 Posted May 4, 2011 Well I get it mostly when I click it more than once. That's the one that always makes me want to raaaaaaaaaaage. There are other ones I get, like posting a topic then replying to another, vice versa. Not to mention other scenarios, but I'm sure everyone is aware of them or has experienced them. I'd like to see this maybe tweaked, not completely removed because we all know where that would land us. Quote
O hai im KAMIL Posted May 4, 2011 Posted May 4, 2011 Mine works perfectly. Whenever I search a members post or topics then I don't get the cooldown message. Obviously if you click it twice within 20 seconds but other then that all good. Btw I use FF 4. Quote
