Take the \m/ out fo the title and this will be a great topic!

Any metal fan should check out the blog THAT'S NOT METAL, by the way. It's satire, of course, but with a core of truth. Anyway, it's hilarious, it's metal, so check it out.

Anyway, two days ago we had to do an oral exercise about a person that has influenced us, or we idolize. I chose Ronnie James Dio, because he's fudgeing awesome, and he died on the 16th of May, and my assignment was on the 17th.

Nobody knew what the fudge I was talking about and I lost just about everyone's attention when I said the words "heavy metal".

Sheeple.

Much appreciation for being so courteous toward my thread, though I didn't really mind all the metal talk. Never the less, thanks.

Now on topic;

I have no ideas what kinds of metal these bands are (or if they even are metal) but I enjoy;

Deftones, System of a Down, Metallica, Pantera, Tool, Nine Inch Nails, Reuben.

I'm way into hardcore but I guess that's not metal. Same for grind, thrash and noise.

Apologies if any of those bands aren't metal, I am learning, I promise!

(1) Done :P

(2)Everyone loves TNM, seen some of your comments on it, I'm Lord David on it BTW

(3)Cool assignment, and gotta love Dio, fave album from him over all bands is Holy Diver :( , also personally I'd go as extreme as possible just to further confuse (and possibly scare) people, and go for someone like Gaahl or Varg Vikernes

No problem, I just realised it was leading to a flame war, with the posts of a certain runescape god :D

On to the metal, got the whole discography of all of those bands except Tool (in my opinion a bit dull...don't tell Redmonke :D ) and Reuben, who I've never heard of before

Ah, that is mine and Redmonke's bonding point. Love Tool.

Reuben are an awesome British band, they used to tour loads when I was a teenager.

I'd go and see them almost a few times a year.

.

They've never gotten really big but have always had a loyal cult following.

@the poll: No, they aren't metal IMO. Nu-metal is practically hard rock.

My favorite band is fairly self-explanatory :D

What genre is it that has the upside down crosses everywhere?
If I had to guess I would say either Black or Death.

I still never understood why they did that. At least what I do know is that they'll never be as Death/Black/Black Death Metal as this guy.

I always like to point that out too!

All the local metal bands here have upside down crosses on their guitars.

Clearly St. Pete was some kind of rock God in his youth.

He did kind of describe the meaning of rock you know.

I might just make a death metal band called The 12 Disciples now.

I'm pretty new to metal, so I can't really name a favorite band.

I prefer Power Metal/Classic Heavy Metal.

The death metal growls irritate me and I tend to pay more attention to the epic guitars anyway.

Demon Jelly is entering and telling you he has a favorite metal band!! Lookie here!!

Oh…wait…well…uh…

He's more industrial, but I like Celldweller's stuff. Though the truth is there's few bands I can't stop listening to more than Animals As Leaders or Periphery.

The poll reminds me of people who say "Lil Wayne isn't real rap!" when he is obviously a rapper. Something doesn't have to be good to make it authentic.

Damn straight.

I could bust a flow right now and be considered a rapper.

Sure, it wouldn't be that great, but technically, I would be a rapper.

If I had to guess I would say either Black or Death.

It's black metal mainly, the inverted cross is a satanist symbol, most of the bandmembers aren't actuaaly satanists, they just think it looks cool and heavy :o

I was waiting for this

You never really mentioned a fave band there, I'll put you on the list anyway

Personally while I don't like it much (completely in deathcores case) I recognise it as metal, the thing is this is one of the biggest debates in metal and so would be a good choice to start the tread off

This thread needs more power, symphonic, and folk. :wizard:
