Ambo100 28 Posted June 17, 2011 (edited) I've got a couple of questions I'd like to ask Sal and whomever else is working on the site update just a couple of questions. You're welcome to ask your own although I can't guarantee your question will be answered as this isn't 'official' Will the forum be upgraded before, after or with the site update? Can we give the site refresh/rehaul/update a cool code name? Something that'll be more consistent. Will you provide a more recent copy of the to-do list from your blog post? What progress has been made since your last blog post? How's it going? Edited June 24, 2011 by Ambo100
Fatalysm 236 Posted June 17, 2011 How's it going? The list is coming along slowly, but things should pick up in the coming week or 2. I'd presume the forum gets updated with the site, but obviously I can't be answering anything for him/them. I have no real questions.
Desireful 21 Posted June 17, 2011 How's it going? The list is coming along slowly, but things should pick up in the coming week or 2. I'd presume the forum gets updated with the site, but obviously I can't be answering anything for him/them. I have no real questions. The focus is primarily on the site. The forums are more of an afterthought. :D They will be upgraded, just after the new site comes online.

Salmoneus 445 Posted June 17, 2011 Will the forum be upgraded before, after or with the site update? After. I originally wanted to upgrade the forums with the overhaul, but there's a lot of testing that needs to be done when the forum is upgraded - custom mods need to be updated/rewritten, skins need updating, and we need to make sure everything works ok - which will easily add an extra few weeks to the overhaul date. Our site needs to be "refreshed" ASAP, and since the forums are working smoothly right now, I think the forum upgrade can hang on a bit. But they will definitely be upgraded shortly after the overhaul. :( Can we give the site refresh/rehaul/update a cool code name? Something that'll be more consistent. See Beret's post above - Operation Colonel Sugar-lemons is the 'official' name. :D Will you provide a more recent copy of the to-do list from your blog post? Possibly. :D What progress has been made since your last blog post? Quite a bit - we're very close at this point! How's it going? Good. :P I apologize if some of my answers seem a bit vague at the moment. I'll try and get a new blog post added in the coming days to give more in-depth answers. but if anyone has any questions, feel free to post them and I'll do my best to answer! :P
Moog 37 Posted June 17, 2011 I would like to know what forum software you are thinking of using, and will there be a major loss of data, i don't wanna have to get 1.7K posts again :D
Kemosabe 194 Posted June 17, 2011 I would like to know what forum software you are thinking of using, and will there be a major loss of data, i don't wanna have to get 1.7K posts again :D Tbh, you shouldn't worry about post count. The more posts you have, the more likely you are to be known around these parts, so if it's reset to 0, then you're already known and don't have to make a name for yourself again. Hunter 152 Posted June 17, 2011 How's your IRL life at the moment? :D I assume that will affect progress a lot, so tell us lots of personal information we can use to stalk you! Also, do you think the site will be updated far more consistently? Will we see integration of a news wall like Zybez has displayed on their homepage?
Desireful 21 Posted June 17, 2011 (edited) I would like to know what forum software you are thinking of using, and will there be a major loss of data, i don't wanna have to get 1.7K posts again :D It will just be upgraded to the latest version of IPB. No data will be lost. @Capt Hunter The site will be updated much more quickly now, due to their being a CMS in place. ;D Not quite sure what you mean by the "news wall". There is news on the homepage?? :( Edited June 17, 2011 by Desireful
O hai im KAMIL 540 Posted June 18, 2011 @Sal How many people do you have working on the site update, and do you think you should hire/promote some more people?
20000_Posts 523 Posted June 18, 2011 I would like to know what forum software you are thinking of using, and will there be a major loss of data, i don't wanna have to get 1.7K posts again :D Multiply that by ten and now you know how I feel. But assuming it's just IPB it shouldn't cause any problems with those.
Salmoneus 445 Posted June 18, 2011 I would like to know what forum software you are thinking of using, and will there be a major loss of data, i don't wanna have to get 1.7K posts again :P It will be the brand-new version of IPB, most likely the upcoming 3.2 release which is currently in testing by the IPB developers. Since it's a very major upgrade I really want to make sure things work, and trying to rush the site refresh and the forum upgrade out at the same time will probably go badly. Too many changes = a larger opportunity for things to go wrong. :( No data will be lost in the upgrade. :P How's your IRL life at the moment? :D I assume that will affect progress a lot, so tell us lots of personal information we can use to stalk you! Also, do you think the site will be updated far more consistently? Will we see integration of a news wall like Zybez has displayed on their homepage? RL is ok at the moment. As always, busy, but I've been trying to devote all the time I can to getting Operation Sugar-lemons ready for it's public debut. Well, we still have our news displayed on the main page; it's definitely easier to work with, and will prevent a buildup of years of news articles on the homepage. :D The site will definitely be updated more frequently once the refresh goes online. With certain things being "automated" (news article archiving, lists of guides and content), and other things being much easier to update (skill calculators, item database, site submissions), more time will be left for actually working on the site and various projects. @Sal How many people do you have working on the site update, and do you think you should hire/promote some more people? We have about 10 people helping with the new site, although many are busy in RL at the moment. :P

Sleepy 14 Posted June 18, 2011 There are tonnes of guides from all the way back when the guide drive was done, some from before that, that are kinda in limbo. They're done but nothing has been said about whether they will be accepted or not. Will those be going up with the new site?

Easl 1 Posted June 18, 2011 Is there going to be a change in how content gets uploaded so it becomes quicker/easier to update? Can we keep "Sal's Page" :D
Ambo100 28 Posted June 18, 2011 Can we keep "Sal's Page" :D I think I read somewhere that the Sal's page would stay but be rewritten and updated. I would hope so, It adds a personal touch to the site.

Melik 10 Posted June 19, 2011 I never realized how outdated and old the front page looks since I've grown fond of it since 2005. :D However much I want to deny it, I guess the site has priority over the forums. Let's hope the forum update comes soon as well :( Were there any major changes since the Blog update? That was the last one I remember that happened during my Salstime. I believe they've already been added to the new site and will be available when its completed. This is correct. Guides that are being written and accepted at the moment aren't being added because it would delay the release of the new site further, but they haven't been forgotten and will be added after the refresh. Will there be an option to go back to the current page? I like it :( I don't think so, at least in the sense that you wont be able to view a new or "classic" version of the site. Whether there will some some sort of archive of the old site is something Sal would probably know, but we won't be able to switch between them like skins, at least not that I know of. Salmoneus 445 Posted June 20, 2011 (edited) But what if our data gets SUCKED INTO THE MATRIX? Dude, just port in and stuff. But remember, if you want to take something from our world into your world that does not belong, you must go to the Frenchman. :D There are tonnes of guides from all the way back when the guide drive was done, some from before that, that are kinda in limbo. They're done but nothing has been said about whether they will be accepted or not. Will those be going up with the new site? They will be added shortly after. A few guides have been completely rewritten and added, but all submitted guides will be added afterwards so they can be announced as usual. Is there going to be a change in how content gets uploaded so it becomes quicker/easier to update? Can we keep "Sal's Page" :P It will be much easier to update and we should be more easily able to keep updated with changes in the game. :D I wasn't intending to keep it, but thinking about it, I guess it can't hurt to keep a "Sal's Page" going. :D Will there be an option to go back to the current page? I like it :P Unfortunately, no. The content is just so far outdated and the layout is too constricting that I'm afraid it would just confuse people. But, the old site is available on the wayback machine (see below). :D I never realized how outdated and old the front page looks since I've grown fond of it since 2005. :PHowever much I want to deny it, I guess the site has priority over the forums.
