Not sure if this is considered off-topic, but the Chinese guy who's pictured in that video used to be the coolest person in the world to me. I remember seeing him at a Ripley's Believe It Or Not exhibit when I was little, and being completely dumbfounded.

It's funny seeing XXYYXX linked here, since I know Marcel through proxy through my friend Grant because Orlando is like that.

dang that is crazy because one of my friends moved to florida 3 years ago and he knows the founder of relief in abstract records, so now he has met xxyyxx and grant

i guess that means we are 4 degrees separated from each other

lol genre hype

I totally thought this when the thread was first made, but I really don't feel like genre hype is the case in this situation. Where I live, at least, chillwave is still a pretty booming genre among people who are more "musically-enlighted" (e.g. listen to more than what's on the radio, for lack of a better term). It would be cool tho if this thread was for all other genres of electronic music which don't fall into the category of EDM, because limiting it to one genre definitely makes it hard to keep alive. For the sake of it, I'll post some FlyLo, because I'm going to a show with him in May that Teebs and Thundercat will be opening at. You could say I'm excited.

What I'm listening to right now:

Some FlyLo, because he's 2dopp.

Message to mods: Please don't lock this. I know this was a bump, but within it being a bump was a feeble attempt at striking up some new discussion.

So how does chillwave differ from downtempo/trip hop stuff? Just more electronic?

Well I'd say the description Wikipedia gives it pretty good (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chillwave). The bit about it being described as 'summer music' is pretty accurate, although it doesn't always sound that way. I'd say some artists, such as Brothertiger and Casa del Mirto, definitely have more of a summery sound to them. Albeit, there is definitely a difference which becomes more apparent the more you listen to the genre.

Ugh, is there a reason my embedding isn't working?

Take the s out of https. It'll embed automatically if it's just http.
