Hi everyone,

We all know how boring grinding on Runescape is, but there's one thing which I think can cure that boredom and that's music, but not just any old music, it has to be high quality, interactive, feel good music, and that's why I'm suggesting Sal's Realm incorporates RuneRadio to their website.

RuneRadio is simply unbelievable; it's a one of a kind, unrivaled experience and has been operating for just over 12 months.

RuneRadio is one of the most active Runescape Radios out there and continues to grow every single day. We've branched out to multiple websites including Zaffre & RunescapeMedia, and RuneRadio continues to stream at the heart of it all; direct from RuneZone.

RuneRadio is a recognized Runescape Radio, ranked Gold by Jagex, it continues to be the home of huge events such as SummerBeat and WinterBeat, with star guests such as Bumbum007 making regular appearances there's always something extra special just around the corner.

RuneRadio prides itself on streaming top quality, high standard music all day every day and provides listeners with an extremely satisfying 128kbs listening experience (the standard is 96kbs). This is sure to give your ears a treat!

Our expert multimedia director has years of experience in Radio DJing, and trains all of our DJ staff to broadcast at a professional level, meaning the listeners have an enjoyable, interactive, highly entertaining listening experience while tuned in.

We utilize industry standard, state of the art technology to stream our music direct to you and offer a variety of methods for listeners to tune in with, catering for every listener. We don't stop just there; with our custom built, extremely stable and robust request system you can send the DJ your favourite tunes, or even ask them to give you a shout out live on air... or perhaps you want to start a talk show topic or send in a few jokes, whatever it is; we've got it covered!

Is this something you'd like to see added to Sals Realm? Do you think you would tune into the Radio on a regular basis?

Kind regards,

Nathan

It's a radio.

People have youtube, itunes and other things to use when the play runescape.

That's one reason why I don't think you should even bother with a radio.

Let alone affiliate.

I absolutely appreciate that, and it's the assumption most people make, but it's so much more than your everyday radio. We've got exciting live shows, huge in game events (coordinated through the radio which is amazing fun), a request system whereby you can request a song, shout out, talk show topic or even send in your funnies jokes! Also, I hear loads of new songs on RuneRadio which I've never heard before and instantly fall in love with, so it's a great way to find new songs and music types you may never had even known existed, and don't get me wrong; I love my iTunes library and my YouTube favourites list, but when I'm feeling something new and a bit more 'live' and exciting then I find it extremely enjoyable to just load up the radio and tune in. :(

From the absence of responses, I am willing to bet it isn't going over very well, or that just nobody really cares.

For me personally, I think that while your radio sounds very nice, we have Sal's Realm Radio that I would much rather see succeed.

Eh a lot of us play on swiftkit which has a built in internet radio player and quick links to the zybez/sky fm radio channels. When i dont have my itunes/normal radio on i listen to sky fm (country/alt rock/or there top hits channel). Your idea sounds similiar to the zybez station, which i cant stand. sky fm is all music only like 2 mins add/hr and no bumbling dj. Thats why i hate zybez (and yours sounds like zybez) i want my music without some raspy 15yr old making lame jokes/bumping his gums. If i want some mass event ill just go to the w2 ge where thers a billion people.

That idea seems really cool, but it doesn't seem like it possesses the resources and tools to be truly outstanding. For example, the radio is offline at the moment, has no robust, secure system to send in requests and like it states, is unofficial and not recognized.

We'd ask you to reserve your judgements on RuneRadio until you've actually tuned in, and you'll recognize that it really is a one of a kind radio attracting the likes of Silentc0re, Evil Yakuza, KKcomics and more.

So because these 'named' Runescape players are listening that means we have to aswell? sorry but listening to music and chatting with mates is good enough for me. If anything i'll tune into the Sal's radio.

I've actually not heard of any of those guys. And i haven't been exactly living under a rock either when it comes to RS. I mean, some. like I said, prefer all music and nothing else. I DON"T want to hear some DJ talking about RS or some joke and what not. I just want music, nothing else. Sky FM does that for me with literally under 5 minutes add/hrs and no DJ.

Yes, it's nice you have events but, really, I have little enough time on RS (not a member currently :( ) to go hang out with a zillion others I don't know. As for requets, I just hit stop on SkyFM then YT my song if I need it that badly.

What you have IS a nice service, just a little bit late to the game when you consider what Zybez has going on with their channel/SKY FM links.

I don't think this idea is one we should be so quick to dismiss. Just because some users may not be interested in it doesn't mean that there aren't people who will.

A couple questions: what does affiliation with Sal's imply? Does it mean a link/app for the radio would be hosted on the site's homepage? Also, does this mean that community members will have the opportunity to contribute to the radio, whether that be simply having their events advertised or actually participating in/hosting shows?

At the same time, it is true that we have a few members working on similar projects that we don't want to quash through this. I think it would be possible, however, for both to coexist without problems.

Sorry if any of this is obvious or has already been answered--I have yet to listen to the radio, so I'm not sure how it operates.

I'm not insinuating that. :D These well known, Runescape YouTube personalities have hosted truly awesome shows on RuneRadio, giving us that exclusive, unique edge. It's fab. :P

Silentc0re is an extremely well know Runescape YouTube Personality (88k+ subscribers), Evil Yakiza, KKcomics and BumBum are also really well known within the Runescape community. I'd definitely recommend you check them out. :(

Whilst you personally might only have little time, others might enjoy a fun filled, radio organized event, although please don't think that's all we do - often we just blast awesome tunes for hours on end, and the shout outs only last around 10/15 seconds. Other than that, if there's not a super-duper event planned, then it's just full of feel good music which I'm sure you'll love!

The affiliation is completely what you guys would want it to be. Here's what I was thinking:

Link to RuneRadio on Sal's Radio with the request system, song currently playing, DJ on air and the timetable

I'd absolutely love and encourage the community here to get involved too, be it applying to become a DJ or requesting their event is advertised. Some of our DJ's invite guests right onto the Radio with them and do some mini quiz shows and stuff, it's really cool. :D

Personally I would never listen to any runescape radio and it looks like a lot of people share my opinion. I'm not really a fan of DJs in the first place, and possibly listening to some 14 year old geek brag about how he made 10 million geepees last night killing ancient ghost unicorns or whatever seems uninviting to me. But nobody's forcing me to listen to it so I really don't care. I suggest a poll to see how many people would actually use this thing. Most people in this thread wouldn't listen to it but five people is not fully representative of the community. It worked for Zybez it might work here.

Again, I'd ask you not to make those assumptions about RuneRadio. You've made a judgement that you think there might be some '14 year old geek' telling you about how he earned '10 million geepees last night killing ancient ghost unicorns' - this is far from what we're about at RuneRadio.

RuneRadio DJ's are extremely professional and understand what people do and do not want to listen to; entertaining the listeners is our top priority. :(

An example of a cool thing we're going to be doing:

We'll be streaming live from RuneFest to the heart of RuneRadio, inviting Jagex Moderators to answer a few questions sent in via the request system (all live remember) and even invite some of the attendees to have a go at DJing - this is just one of many things we have planned.

Regardless, I don't see how it would be a negative addition to our site. We don't have to add a service with the expectation that everyone will use it. However, the Salcast was decently popular when it was still active, so I would think this at least has potential--especially if we have the opportunity to contribute some Sal's-centric content at some point.

And a few advertisements for Sal's Realm would be nice too :(

Nice.

Whilst we strive to broadcast 24/7, just with all servers they can be brought down temporarily for security, maintenance and all sorts of reasons. Further more, the Media Team Leader is currently away sick so the DJ Team is currently on the 're-build'. It is a shame that on this occasion the radio was offline for you.

Please feel free to 'mold' the affiliation to whatever you'd want. :D We're not asking you link back to RuneZone, or even the RuneRadio page. I think there is a benefit to being able to put RuneRadio on Sal's.

I really like this idea, I think it would be a benefit to both communitys, and if you don't want to listen, just don't. Whilst the Sals' Radio is still starting up, it won't be on 24/7 so RuneRadio would be good to listen to also, and they could offer advice to the Sals' Radio Djs.

Just a question for Nathan, but, is it possible to listen to RuneRadio via the Swiftkit Radio Player?

Personally, I don't like the idea of affiliating much, I've always been a bit of a purist, where Sal's Realm is Sal's Realm, and other sites are other sites. That said, I don't like the idea of supporting an outside radio unless it were to be centered around Sal's Realm (which it is not).

What would RuneRadio do to be more Sal's Realm than an outside site that happens to have a link and/or page on Sal's Realm?

On the note of my own radio project - the current issue is legality. Which I'm working out rather quickly, actually. Some google searches later, and I've found a number of cheap possibilities for making it work out pretty simply. Legal issues were the only reason for it to go inactive temporarily. So on that note, it'll be back soon. And not to be biased, but I'd rather support that (...even if it wasn't my own project ^^;) than a big outside radio that doesn't have much to do with Sal's Realm.

Aside from that, don't knock it for not having anything to be excellent, it's hardly started up yet. There's still a lot to do to get it to that point. The ideas are there, we're on the final planning stages before execution of them :P

The impact it would have is debatable and difficult to prove, I suppose, but one benefit would be the possibility of increased site traffic.

After that, it would depend upon the agreement we reached with the radio. If we were allowed a significant amount of advertising for our site events, our forums, and our guides and services, it would be a good way of reaching out to people who use the site but don't register, or people who listen to the radio from other sites that host it.

At the same time, I don't want to stifle our own projects. I agree with Ent that anything projects our members are working on should have our support over competing interests. I think it would be possible for both projects to have site support, but I don't think we would agree to a deal that hurt any projects like the (former) Salcast or Ent's startup project.

@Nathan- The most you'll be able to work out through this topic will probably just be a gauge of popular opinion. You'd probably have the best results by contacting Sal via PM, as it's ultimately his decision and he would be able to give you the best feedback on what a sponsorship would entail from our end. We're currently working on a redesign of our site, however, which is nearing completion, so you might want to wait just a bit until that is over with. I'm not sure how busy he is at the moment, but I'd imagine he'd have a bit more time soon.
