Shaw claims they now have the fastest broadband internet available in North America. 250MBps down with 500GB cap for $100, or 250MBps down unlimited for $120.

Oh you're in Ontario. You guys will have to wait, we're getting it on the West Coast first. There's been a lot of infrastructure upgrades in Vancouver and Calgary, I don't think there is any copper left :(

Well, right now my parents are on the Cogego high speed internet standard bundle which is up to 16Mb/s and 30G data per month.

Once I get a real job I am going to ask them if I can go halfsies on the Ultimate 30 package with 30 Mb/s and 125G data per month. It is only 20ish dollars more, so if I go halfsies it would be saving them money.

Its not really the download speed I am too worried about, it is the monthly data. Streaming, uploading videos and that sort of stuff takes a ton of it up. We are currently reaching our limit every month with me only uploading 3-4 videos and not playing much games/streams at all.

A bit of a bold claim considering US has local roll outs of 1gbps =P

IIRC isn't Verizon FiOS the fastest local broadband @ 150MBps?

Even if it isnt, $199 :(

1gbps from Chattanooga. http://chattanoogagig.com/

$350 for 1gbps with cheaper prices for lower tiers.

My point was more along the lines of them being disingenuous by saying fastest internet in North America. In Canada sure. A ISP covering 600k in the US with 1gbps is a bit substantial though.

There are also other regional players with speeds in this range with Comcast and Verizon planning 1gbps roll outs of their own.

Interesting. It's an expensive service for sure and looks like less than 10 customers are on it right now, but once Google starts to roll out 1GBps and it gains more attention, hopefully the prices will drop.

I hope overall both Canada and the US can get more mainstream high speed services at affordable prices because as it stands now we're both getting our asses kicked in this race.

This is on Shaw, on their 50Mbs plan. Not too bad for being behind two routers and a 100' cable. Our computers connected to the first router get just a bit higher. Still works for 4MB/s downloads which I can't complain about. The upload, though, still sucks. I've just gotten used to that.

Think about poor Australia. :(

Exorbitant prices for a crap product. At least we're not stuck on dial up any more, I guess. :D

I don't even know why we need it, or what it's for... :(

All I know it's stupid; why do we need 100mbps download? All it means is someone will get to download their movies faster lol. If a privatised company wanted to outlay the capital for infrastructure and support for 100mbps internet, I'd be all for it; but for the government to put money into this "investment" isn't what we should be doing to be honest.

Our government's like "GFC? I thought it was KFC???"

Short of funding BT to wire our entire village with infinity, this is the best available to me in the UK (rural ftl):

Not even close to the promised 4MB/s. Even 4 would be disgraceful :D
