Why is there a cap on the amount of name changes you can have?

 

For the life of me I can't figure it out.

Do you mean the twice in 180 days limit? I'd say because it's an absolute pain to have to constantly relearn who someone is, and then they go change their name once again.

RuneScape has proved it bad enough with just once a month. When you get people constantly changing their name, it's a big deal because suddenly you don't know who anyone is.

We've had this question asked so many times already :(. It's pretty much because as Kemo said it'd get annoying to learn all the new names that are constantly changing. Besides, two changes in 180 days should be enough anyway.

Yeah, it is the content of their post that really matters, but I like to know who's posting good content and who's posting bad content.

It would be annoying to constantly relearn, but 1 extra name change per 180 wouldn't hurt, I think.

I think, that its everyone elses problem if they have to re-learn someones name. And its really not hard to go into name change history.

What's so bad about not changing your name? Your username is part of your identity, you don't really need to go changing it every few months.

Even if there were no limit on name changes I don't think most people would go around changing their name constantly, because, like kemo said, it's a part of your identity and you probs think your name is pretty unique!

You still haven't provided a good enough reason as to why the system should be changed. Sure, personal preference blablabla, but if the forums were changed every time someone wanted something different, then well, you know.

You still haven't provided a good enough reason as to why the system should be changed. Sure, personal preference blablabla, but if the forums were changed every time someone wanted something different, then well, you know.

The system works really well as it is now, especially after we removed the 1 change per 3 month, part, and added in 2 per 6.

The 1 in 3 was change to 2 in 6 because it allowed for someone to change their name should they accidentally get one they didn't want, but it still kept it within the same time period.

You had about 5-6 people with a name with a variation of the term "Chris", which just ended up confusing everyone when some of those started switching avatars and what not, making things even worse for everyone.

People change it so often you have no idea who anyone is, and with text based communication be so unexpressive its hard to tell when someone is being serious, joking or anything like that. If you know a bit about the person you can quickly understand the context of their post. If every time you post you assume the person you are talking to is a stranger you can never really get that rapport or banter with them.
