Kony 2012

Recommended Posts

Lost a little more of the sparse faith I have in humanity over this. You try and say that you don't agree with the organisation and suddenly you're a supporter of Kony.

I only say that for people who try to claim that the LRA is protecting the Acholi from the Ugandan government. If you're referring to me. That may of been true 2 decades ago, but it isn't anymore.

No don't worry not you, just silly people who think they're bona fide world-savers for sharing a link on facebook. They're like a hive of bees; protect their own ferociously and in worryingly high numbers.

And of course people got fooled into this whole mess, my facebook feed over this made me depressed at how EASILY people are fooled.

"So Britain is one of the most apathetic countries in the western world: [1]http://www.oxbridgeessays.com/blog/are-britains-students-apathetic-636/ But apparently we are all now passionate central African social activists, that's great, even if Joesph Kony has been inactive since 2006 and hasn't set foot in Uganda for over 5 years, but sharing a 30 min video on fb sadly has zero positive impact on the situation in Northern Uganda, and considering the group behind it are lobbying for militarising the area and supporting the Ugandan military (the first people in the region to use child soldiers btw), actually supporting the KONY 2012 campaign is probably quite dangerous.

[2]

Central Africa has been wartorn for decades, it is deeply ethnically divided and western powers have been destabilising it for their own gains for years. Solutions to global conflicts are often not actually that hard to imagine, but the situation in this part of the world is extremely difficult and dangerous and anybody wanting to be involved on any level should at least take the time to educate themselves about it:

[4] http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Second_Congo_War [5]http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lord's_Resistance_Army

And being involved takes more than a facebook status, the bare minimum is a donation, and better than your £££ going to a group of irresponsible militant yuppies who keep about 70% of donations for "administration costs", these are just two examples of organisations doing real, accountable work in the region:

And after that, how about we campaign about a conflict that is actually ongoing?

Oh I'll agree. It has gotten a bit excessive to the point people will post 5 - 10 status updates in a row about it.

the kony hype dissappeard from my facebook/twitter timeline

after two days ..Clicking like on his page or retweeting his name wont bring him to justice...

shows how much people care about it lol

i guess now US is out of Afghanistan...well it should be

Just an excuse to invade Uganda.

69% of the donation money goes towards travel, salaries, expenses AND supporting the Uganda military...which has recruited children, raped, and pillaged as well. Sure Kony needs to be stopped, but backing one evil in this matter to stop another is not the way to do it. Besides, even in the video they state that Kony may not be in Uganda anymore

no point in capturing Kony anyways

the LRA is on its last legs, he's probably sick in some hut, the governent is just as bad as Kony, and capturing him solves nothing
