Puzzle

The winner will receive the extraordinary benefit of having their name mentioned here . If nobody gets it after a while, I will add a hint.

Also, you have to mention how you know the answer. Otherwise you would have a 1/5 chance of success.

Question: Which Minecraft armor set am I wearing?

Winrar:WolfieMario

Leather armor: the number represents the summed durability of the armor you're wearing. A full set of leather is 279 durability, while you appear to be half-down with a durability of 139. Double that, and you get 278, which is very close to the actual durability level.

No fricken clue about the armor. I'll guess iron because of that weird coif thing on the GUI.

Speaking of the GUI, there's a lot of stuff that looks different. (Maybe because I haven't played in a while.. :P)

Also,

Enjoy the fake before Wolfie points out every possible error!

I won't point out everything possible yet, but I can see where you edited out the money pouch :P

Next time use a kit that came before the pouch? ;)

Winrar = Wolfie!

Yeah, using an older kit probably would have saved a lot of time . Maybe I'll edit this later.

Sorry about the confusion with the iron helmet. I thought that everybody would assume that my puzzles were more sophisticated :P.

Yay. Anyways, I just wanted to post that quick since I saw Vog looking at the thread and figured he might get the armor thing before me :P

Anyways, great fake :D. I like how you thought most things through, i.e. the 20 hp and hunger, 64 arrows, etc..

As far as the quality of the fake, I can't find any concrete editing flaws except the area where the money pouch (and map button, as I just realized) were, and the fact that Aabid says "MineScape" instead of "Minescape" (doesn't RS still make only the first letter of a word capitalizable, in all circumstances?). Aside from that, I noticed you were very careful with the chatbox.

As far as the icons, hunger and armor have too-detailed shading compared to the icons RS used to have up there. Granted anytime Jagex changes pieces of the GUI, they usually throw graphical consistency to the wind, so I don't think it's much of an issue. There seems to be a misplaced pixel on the hunger icon, however, at its top-right edge.

The blue icon... I presume it's your air meter? If so, the bubble is weird. I mean, the bubbles of the air meter are one of the few things in Minecraft that actually are circular . Also, I find it stranger that you shaded the bubble's outline, but gave it a flat fill color. You know, rather than either having it transparent (meaning the outline is the only thing to shade) or attempting to (somewhat trickily) shade the inside/fill area of the bubble as well.

Now, on to conceptual issues:

First, no blocks in your inventory? Or is the stone at the bottom-right meant to be cobble? :P

Second, you're looking at someone with Zooey's well-known skin, and yet in the chatbox "Server" speaks. Whether or not "Server" is a chimera of DoctorSkull and Zooey, if Zooey is online he speaks as himself... Leaving the question - is that an impostor we see behind the tree, or did someone's name get changed to "Server"? :P

Third, how do you know which item you have selected? Maybe have some sort of box around the item? Or perhaps RuneScape's existing feature of a white outline around items you choose to "Use"?

Finally, I see you have no tabs... But how would you access your 2x2 crafting grid, or your equipment slots? Not to mention the options the Escape key gives you in Minecraft (achievements, options, graphics settings, logout, etc.), and the player list Tab gives. I noticed there's no logout button too :P. I don't know, I just find it strange to see all those blank tabs and guess that these features are only accessible via keypresses.

Anyways, altogether a great fake; despite my suggestion that you left things out, you actually thought it out well with what to include, and I liked the hunger and armor icons :)

I'll just organize my fixes in the next edit.

-Use an old interface to get rid of the obvious editing next to the minimap

-Make the bubble more detailed >.<

-Change Server to Zooey105

-Add some Minecraft-y tabs

-Number the pet rock to resemble multiple stones. Nobody carries around a single stone, of course

-Change Aabid's "MineScape" to "Minescape"

-Make some sort of indication as to which item is being wielded

-Add a logout button because pressing Esc wouldn't be an option

-Edit the other icons' shadings to match the HP icon's more closely

Now we wait a year for these updates to conclude.

Love the idea and you did a awesome job! The only thing I could imagine you improving on are the trees on the mini-map and placing the ones you can actually see on screen in the correct places around the user, but that's a small detail.

Great work! :)

Oh, you. Of all the people out there, only Guitarguy would make a Minecraft fake. :cute:

This doesn't seem to be a particularly difficult fake. Granted, I haven't made one in years, so who am I to criticize people. In any case, I love the idea. Might even come back if Jagex did something like this (which they won't).

Righty, you get a 9.5/10. No detailed commentary because I'm exhausted and suffering from hay fever. Note: should you ever choose to move to a new home, choose a place that isn't located in the middle of an oak forest (or whatever is giving me hell right now). Your sinuses will thank you.

Someone should make a mod to make Minecraft look like this!@

Just a change of textures + GUI overlay - not too difficult to do. I'll see what I can do once I get into modding a bit more. You can take the data from the inventory and chat to fill the respective boxes. Although, Minecraft has more inventory slots than Runescape, so you'd have to add multiple tabs.

Why am I not complaining that I'm lost in Aeyr again?

Changing the whole GUI wouldn't be not too difficult.

The main difficulty would be combining the 'T' interface into the main GUI. I have an idea of how to do it (just have that GUI be the same as the standard one, so when it overlays, only the flashing _ changes).

what about adding a minimap, changing the inventory, making little icons that reduce when you haven't eaten/lose health, xp counter that appears when toggled, and when you get xp (For example +15xp, that fades up into the counter), the compass, reducing the screen size, etc,

Map - just add new texture for Rei's mini-map, and change how it renders.

Inventory - take the data from 'I' GUI and put it there.

Icons - texture (same as reducing hearts/whatever)

Toggled Exp - give me a minute

Compass - Rei's

Reduced Screen Size - just lock the option

i don't see how you can just 'put it there'.

It's not like if you drag the chunk of code to the right it will just be like that.

You have to make it so it's vertical and lines up with the invisible squares

and just retexturing the hearts wouldn't work, because of placement etc.

i dont know what you mean by 'just lock the option'

EDIT: Or I may be totally wrong and it would just need a well-designed texture overhaul :>

From what I've seen in the code, GUIs are show on-demand and restrict all other action (e.g. walking, etc.). I think you'd need some significant modification just to have multiple GUIs show at once while still being able to play. With regard to that, turning the hotbar into an inventory might actually be easier than using the inventory GUI's code for that purpose. Also, consider that you'd want players to be able to select their item; it makes more sense to have the hotbar there than the entire inventory.

Also, for the food, health, and armor meters, you'd basically have to make your own class of GUI element that renders a portion of the globe filled based on a percentage - the current system is just a row of sprites. So, instead of taking existing Minecraft code and modifying it, you'd have to make your own code (basically imitating what Jagex did) :P

None of this is impossible or anything; it would just require a good amount of knowledge of Java, a lot of planning (e.g. make sure you know all the code you're gonna write before you begin), and enough knowledge of Minecraft's code. I do think it would be more code than Dimos expects, but if he knows/learns enough about Java and the Minecraft API, it wouldn't take forever. Personally, I would wait until 1.3 (which changes most of MC's code) before starting anything, because I doubt anyone would have it done before 1.3 comes out anyhow.

so i was originally right

cool

oh and don't creating tabs for worn equipment etc.

I agree with the above points, but when I was saying 'GUI', I was using it loosely, since technically the normal screen you are at is a GUI and I was talking about that, not just your inventory.
