Where are the guidewriters?

Well, you can get most of the pictures off of Google/RuneWiki. Then you Photoshop the background out and you get a nicer looking picture. Just let me know which ones you want in a PM and I'll do em up for you.

No. You have to take the pictures yourself.

isnt that a rule from the forum and wiki's rules?no stealing other people's work?if so,ur outa luck as u gotta take them urself :/

Or you can just post the guide in text and where there needs to be a picture, just put a small description of what you want and wait for someone that has some time to take it.

This of course doesn't work well with quests but for the new crucible update it would probably be fine.

That's also intellectual property violation, which is illegal in many countries.

Do you think anyone really cares if you get the pictures from Google? For all we know, I took all those pictures myself. There's no variety in the Runescape items, so all the pictures will be identical.

All pictures must be original. We've had cases in the past (*cough*sarodims_wrath*cough*) where guides have been removed and warnings handed out solely due to ripping pictures from other fansites.

Naming names and leaking warn logs?! :bann:

So are any solutions being thought up or something?

The problem has been noted, given a brief thought, and filed in the to-do folder. The last file to be removed was 'Site Overhaul, 2008'.

I love this system.

Salmoneus is like Notch?

Brilliant.

I know we aren't supposed to, but how would anyone even find out?

Ripping anything is never okay, even if it's in secret.

Neither is torrenting. That hasn't stopped anyone.

I'm just saying, how would you even know if someone ripped pictures from Wikipedia?

For something like Runescape, where the sprite will be the same, you can't really, but that doesn't mean you should. If you don't feel like going and getting the picture yourself, then you don't deserve the use of that picture.

I know I shouldn't, that's not what I'm saying. But for all we know, every picture ever posted on this site is from Wikipedia. I know what you guys are saying though.

Yes, bureaucracy at its best, complete with all the red tape you can shake a stick at. Take a number, we'll get to you eventually. Now serving #1987401 :pirate2:

But on a serious note, it's definitely possible to bring in a few volunteers to approve and add content. It's not as simple as just giving certain people access to edit guides though, and the specifics will need to be worked out, but I think that it's a very good idea (and something that's been planned, but never got off the ground).

There are ways. We have eyes and ears everywhere! That, and thanks to some very vigilant members, we've caught several image rippers.

Even if you could get away with it though, it's not right. Yes, it might be easier than getting the pictures yourself, but I'm asking that you don't. I'd rather have a guide with no pictures than a guide with the most amazing ripped pictures.

On another serious note, even though I don't really play, I'd be happy to help the site out.

There will be no pips. :madsing:

You can get away with it for 1 or 2 times but at a certain moment there will be a mod breathing in your neck saying that you ripped something, warns you and probably suspends you as well. And if you then decide to go clean and get the images yourself, they don't trust you anymore and will check every image and every word. Then probably try to ban you for something that wasn't ripped (but just a coincidence) and trying to say that it wasn't ripped doesn't work at that point (no one believes you).

They have caught rippers, I know. I was one of them (years ago).

  • 2 weeks later...

I'd be happy to see a team put together of people who could put content onto the site quickly. It's a bit disheartening to try and produce a guide within a reasonable timeframe of the content being released and for it not to go live on the site quite quickly.

I can only imagine how frustrating it must be for people who have written extensive and incredibly long guides.

I WOULD TOTALLY VOLUNTEER

Look, here we have a list of problems:

1. Sal can't update quickly enough

2. Sal hasn't appointed other distinguished members to add the new content once it has been accepted.

Solution:

One of the distinguished members (like Jethraw or Roy for example) can get access to add the new content.

When should this be done?: Now. If one of you distinguished members has Sal's number, call him, and work out a plan on Saturday.
