Getting rid of the bar at the bottom (and top)

Recommended Posts

It seems that the new update has brought a new annoyance... The playable screen is a lot smaller now because of the added bar at the bottom.

This may be a bug and may be removed after some time but for now I have a solution that will get rid of the bottom thing and if you want, the top as well.

Requirements:

  • Firefox (might work with other browser but I have no idea how and I'm too lazy to find out at the moment)
  • AdBlockPlus

Helpful:

How to Do it:

It's very easy, just add these two filters to adblock:

runescape.com###top

runescape.com###bottom

You can also use the 'find element to hide' option from Element Hiding Helper to select the two sections to get the required filters. But make sure you select the radiobutton with 'Runescape.com' or else it won't always work.

Brilliant.

I'll keep this in mind for the next time I get the urge to play.

for me the bottom bar vanished within 30 minutes, I think this has been fixed.

also, this is a windows only solution, yes?

I haven't confirmed this, but since Firefox works on OS X and these are FireFox add ons, it should work (Again, firefox also works on Linux).

They removed the bottom bar a while back and just now they made the top bar part of the game (no html).

Seems like this tutorial is obsolete now...

I don't really know if this is still an issue for some people (I never had that bottom bar), but another solution would be to utilize iframes. Write a quick webpage with an iframe, hide x and y overflow (you would have to place the iframe within a div tag) and position the top of the iframe to -(height of top bar)px. It would mean you could stretch the game page to dimensions beyond your web browser, and hide the annoying bits at top and bottom. I've done the same thing for years with a browser based client I use.
