Preparing to sell laptop, what do I do? [Quick Answer Please]

Recommended Posts

I'm about to sell one of my old laptops and I took out the recovery CD and I'm not at a menu where it gives me two options. The first is to "Recover to Factory Default Software - Recover to out-of-box state" and the second is to "Erase the hard disk - Delete all the data and the partitions from your hard drive". Would I only do the factory default option or should I also erase the hard disk?

~Thank You!

If theres anything sensative on there, erase, erase, erase again, preferrably with a writeover program to make sure nothing is left. Even if its fairly harmless & generic gaming/schoolwork wipe the HDD @ least once.

Then restore to factory default & $$$ in the hand.

DBAN it.

And then re-install Windows on it and sell. Make sure you back up everything you need though before you erase everything. Unless you want to be passing over all your personal files and documents to whoever receives your laptop...?
