Go inactive for one month and two weeks so I can catch up!!

7 successful scroll piece voyages in a row now. (not in consecutive days just to clear that up, I'm not lucky enought to get a scroll piece voyage everyday)

I have 5 and 3/4 scrolls. They are gem finding scrimshaw, rock crushing scrimshaw, rocktail soup, seasingers top legs and 3/4 of the helm i think. I am in the last region, but I just got there so no ship upgrades from that region yet, and I don't think I have any crew from the last region either. Currently I haven't been playing a lot cause I've mostly been playing 07 scape. I've made quite a few scrimshaws already, and have finished one of the adventurers stories.

Things are coming along nicely for my port I have all the ship upgrades. I also made my tetsu body.

I do not pay as much attention to pop as I would like but I have finally reached Pincers.

I'm not clear on whether I should bother with anymore building upgrades (the bar and barracks)

and I don't know if it will be worth it to build icons and totems. Nor am I sure how I should build

my final set of crews now that there will be no more upgrades.

I started in late March, so I'm quite far behind. Looking forward to reaching the Pincers so that I won't have to set my alarm in the middle of the night for voyages anymore.

Looking at Micael's progress makes me realize that I shouldn't have neglected scroll hunting when I was in the early regions. A scroll mission in the Bowl is fundamentally the same as one in the Skull, it just takes much longer and is harder to successfully complete.

Nor am I sure how I should build my final set of crews now that there will be no more upgrades.

It's a shame there isn't more discussion about this. From what I understand, the general advice is to have 5 single-stat crewmembers, 4 jade merchants, 3 judges, and 3 oxheads. If you've reached the point where you don't care about resources or trade goods anymore, then ditch the merchants and get more oxheads.

I did alot of my scrolls early on didnt mind taking a hit on time, it was just so much quicker.

@CS about merchants, do not ditch any merchants until you have completed all the story missions and their reward missions, including the triple adventurer and double adventurer missions. That extra 30% makes the whole gathering trade goods alot easier. For my crew the first 3 ships are set up as the 10k all missions and normally have around 80% pass rate, so I can do all resource/scroll missions the night when i check my voyages.I have 4 pieces of the armour now aswell as it stands when i unlock my final adventurers there rewards will give me enough to complete all but seasingers.

I'm in the Bowl and only have 6 scrolls. :(

Anyway, yeah, I'm going to get 4 jade merchants and never have them leave any of my ships. I'm also saving my "fortune of the seas" for those triple adventurer missions.

Wow, you got to Pincers with 3 ships?!

I think if you're still only in the bowl region, if I were you I would at least use one when you get up to 3 of them, because it might take a while before you get to the trio missions. I reached the pincers and unlocked a 4th ship months ago and still haven't gotten any trio voyages. I guess I'll save any fortunes of the sea I get from now on for those. I have a thing made that increases random events so that'll be good. Also, I was just thinking that if you have a jade merchant in every ship that would decrease the percentages probably, and you might actually end up getting less resources because of failed voyages. Personally, I only have one jade merchant, just because I needed the other slots for 5 of each stat guy, and 3 ox heads, and 2 judge of dices. I figure that since the solidarity doesn't stack when you have more than one judge of dice, it would be better to have an extra ox head than judge of dice, and also I don't normally do more than 2 mixed voyages at a time, so I won't ever need more than 2 judges of dice. As of now I have 2 jade golems and 2 sea witches, but I'm thinking of getting rid of both jade golems and the sea witch that doesn't have +1% seafaring(ikr lucky huh, that I got that trait on a crew member). Anyways I've rambled on long enough and i g2g now.

Yeah, I try to use the effects once I max them to open up space for more. I wish I'd realized sooner that lifeboats are permanent and cap at 1.

The idea is to maximize your expected value. A merchant will only slightly decrease your chances of success while significantly increasing your potential reward. The trade-off is worth it.

For example, here's a voyage I just sent out:

Adversity: 16k Morale, Reward: 1.2k chimes, 600 jade

Using 5 morale crew, then 600 jade * 91% = 546 jade

Using 4 morale, 1 merchant, then 780 jade * 83% = 647.4 jade

Unlocked the shambling lair and maxed my distance. Weirdly enough, I now have oxheads, 5 harems, 5 tiger-riders, but still 0 travelling bands. I've also been sort of stuck on story missions.

My port is coming along nicely. I have completed all the story missions and got most of the port upgrades. Now I'm working towards getting full sets of each of the pop armours and so I'm just doing scroll and trade good voyages each day, with a few resource/exp missions thrown in if I have a ship to spare.

I have a few questions. Here's where I'm at (I'm limited by only have one of the six skills at level 90+ (fishing)):

poplog.png

popresources.png

Late game PoP is all about trade goods. I already don't care about the resources because I have what I need. That being said, are the jade merchants worth it for the extra one or two trade goods vs lowered chance of failure? My calculations show it would reduce the success rate by about 12 points. Granted, I play conservatively and pretty much don't send a ship unless it has 90% success rate or higher.

Speaking of my conservative playing... I've been playing for a few days now in The Bowl so that my random trade goods voyages are in the 16k range instead of 20k range. I still get the 20k special voyage anyway, but it makes the others more guranteed to succeed. I guess there was no question there. Comments?

Totem hotspots - what are you doing with them? You get the biggest jump in boost (+4%) for the first one. So does it make more sense to have four different ones (unless you truly only care about one of them, perhaps)?

What do you have for captains? I have 1 of the highest morale, 2 combat, 2 seafaring. I see no reason for speed as the benefit seemed quite minimal in my limited testing.

I'm not sure if things get a little more complicated when I get another 90 skill and unlock some more special voyages.

I love PoP's because of the money I've gained. I've made 3 tetsu's helms so far and made almost 20 million from them in total.

Pincer voyages will offer you a shot at 5 trade goods, or 6 if you’re using a merchant. What you should do is compare the expected value (probability of success multiplied by the resources gained) of both voyages.

Let’s say you can get 100% without a merchant and 88% with one. You can expect 5*.1 = 5 goods without a merchant and 6*.88 = 5.28 with one. Thus it’s better to use a merchant.

If the tradeoff is 12%, then it will always be better to use a merchant as long as your chances of success are 60% or higher with a merchant. (72% without a merchant is equal to 60% with one.)

Totem hotspots - what are you doing with them? You get the biggest jump in boost (+4%) for the first one. So does it make more sense to have four different ones (unless you truly only care about one of them, perhaps)?

Probably the scroll or trade good totems. Resources are useless in the long run, as you pointed out. Experience voyages don’t interest me either, but random events are actually quite good.

Edit: Random events are apparently capped at 1/day, so I advise against building a random event totem. I suppose the best totems would be for trade goods, scrolls (assuming you're still hunting them, in the long run this totem becomes useless), and experience.

What do you have for captains? I have 1 of the highest morale, 2 combat, 2 seafaring. I see no reason for speed as the benefit seemed quite minimal in my limited testing.

It makes sense to have 2 seafaring since you’ve unlocked the whaler. In my case, I don’t care much for bones or spices because my priority is obtaining the armor. Therefore the most important missions are the convict (moral), occultist (moral/combat), and whaler (seafaring) voyages. So I want 2 morale instead of 2 combat. Although I think the main takeaway here is that speed captains are indeed useless. You can spend quite a bit of time and chimes hunting for good captains (no negative traits, or, even better, no traits at all)…

I have made all of the set of superior armour now, which leaves me with little to do at pop. I am currently looking at building a jade portal because why not and doing the exp voyages for some extra exps.

Congrats on the armor. Get 4 trade good totems and just milk ports for money. Not much else to do.

I've also been a bit bored by ports lately. Just plodding along, leveling up my crew as I work toward the 3 armor sets. I'm not too worried about finishing the scrolls since I still need so much lacquer anyway.
