Are you currently working? Part time for a family friend's business

What do you like/dislike about your job? No real schedule to follow, just deadlines

What previous jobs/careers have you had? Nothing consistent besides this.

What job/career would you realistically like to have? Something medical would be really cool, but realistically I'll most likely end up with a comp sci degree.

Are you currently working?

Yes

What do you like/dislike about your job?

Desk Job/I make my own schedule. Very laid back environment. Small town business. State government. What is there NOT to like? ;)

The only real dislike I can imagine and I'm sure some of you will think I am crazy is that it gets boring as ever sometimes! I mean I am being totally honest but this is just pure waste...they could get rid of three of the higher management literally and I could perform all four position duties by myself and still stay in a timely manner. Maybe if I ever become a manager/supervisor I can start doing something about that.

What previous jobs/careers have you had?

I was an intern at a school for about three months. I really enjoyed it but after the intern I could never find work(which personally I feel like was because of my gender...)

As Yuanrang pointed out...the feeling of teaching a child and seeing understanding come across their face is...well indescribable Anybody who likes the fuzzy feeling inside after doing something wonderful well this is the career choice for you. As a male especially, most people think "that's a girls job!" not at all! If the field wasn't so slim I'd still be in it.

What job/career would you realistically like to have?

Honestly...not sure any longer. I wouldn't mind furthering my career in the manufacturing industry but because I work with the state not really many promotions out there up for grabs.

Are you currently working?

Yes; I have a zero-hour contract at my aunt and uncle's cheese shop so they call me in every so often. Hopefully I'll get a job helping first-year maths students at the start of next school year.

What do you like/dislike about your job?

It's fairly boring, mostly consists of me taking food and putting it in containers of various shapes and sizes. The upside is that it's with family and other people that are friendly, I get to just turn up my music since I'm working one floor above the store itself, plus they don't really mind if I eat some of the product :P

What previous jobs/careers have you had?

I've worked bringing a weekly paper and some flyers (commercial). Was mind-numbingly boring work so I quit after a few weeks :box:

I've also tutored people in math, that was quite fun

What job/career would you realistically like to have?

I would love to be a maths teacher for the 10th grade upwards (ie. when people generally are slightly more mature and often more invested in school). At this point it's either that or get a PhD if I even can, but that's still 4 years away so I'm leaving it open.

Are you currently working?

Yes, I'm in the United States Army. Currently deployed to Afghanistan.

What do you like/dislike about your job?

My Military Occupation Specialty (MOS) is 13Foxtrot, which is a Fire Support Specialist. Not, I'm not a Fire Fighter or anything to do with putting out fires. I call for and direct surface to surface weapons (mortars, artillery, rockets, naval gunfire) and air to surface (missiles, guns, rockets) from Rotary Wing (Helicopter) and Fixed Wing assets (UAV, Bomber, and Fighter Jets). I like having the fire power, working in small man teams, and being a huge asset on the ground.

The dislike is it comes with alot of responsibility; keeping up with regulations, keeping mine and my platoons radios squared away, and always studying and learning.

What previous jobs/careers have you had?

I've been in the Army since I was 17, straight out of highschool. I'm 21 now and a Sergeant or E-5. I've never worked prior to enlisting.

What job/career would you realistically like to have?

I'll be getting out in less than two years. Whenever I get back to the states, I'm going to start doing basic online college to knock out the classes like english and math and the like. Once I'm done with that and out of the military I'll be going to college to become an anesthesiologist assistant. Way different than what I'm doing now, but I think I'll enjoy it.

You just like knocking people out eh? LOL

At your current job you can blow people up/tell others to. In your future job...you control whether they ever wake up. o.0

  1. Are you currently working?
Yes, I am currently employed at a private country club as an outside services person. That entails staging/cleaning golf carts, providing bag service, club service, and driving range service.
  2. What do you like/dislike about your job?
I like this job better than the other golf course I worked at. We have an overall better crew this year with people who are passionate about golf and being able to represent the sport and club. Another plus is the great, free food (we can order anything at our snack bar or grill), huge discounts, and the occasional free golf. We also get extra money in our paychecks if we work a Monday tournament since Mondays, the club is closed and we open for public tournaments. Each player is charged a $5 service fee which is divided among the workers on that day. However, since this is a private club other than the public one I worked at, the members are all stuck-up snobs who have money and treat us with disrespect. Let this be a lesson: Never be a Wayne Lippman. Also, our chef at the snack bar is never in a good mood, and sometimes we wait over and hour for food. Same goes to the grill. They are discriminant towards us "pro shop guys" because they believe we're above anyone else. So sometimes they won't serve us.
  3. What previous jobs/careers have you had?
I worked 3 consecutive years back at a public course in Dayton, NV. Started out as a range service guy, then was move up to carts, then stand-in supervisor if our actual supervisor did not work. Boss treated me like I was a king. I was the best at this job and they sadly miss me.
  4. What job/career would you realistically like to have?

Well, since I am studying Graphic Design (Concentration in Video & Animation and Graphic Design), I would like a job as graphic designer for a video game company. If anything, I can probably find an editing job or work for a design company. And after 3+ years experience, I can probably go freelance design. However, I've always kept in mind that I would love to do the graphic work for golf courses (i.e. business cards, advertisements, stationary sets, ect.).

I'll start teaching chem labs at UVA in a few weeks while I work towards my PhD. I'm excited!

And if any of you end up in one of my classes, beware.

I can totally see you screaming "HF LEAK" (hat tip) just to troll your students.

And that's why I love you so hard

Are you currently working?

I've got two jobs at the moment. I'm a part-time bookseller at Barnes & Noble, and I am a senior mentor at a program my high school has created for at-risk incoming freshmen. At risk meaning at risk of dropping out, at risk of getting into major disciplinary issues in school or running into trouble with the law, and at risk of earning poor grades. Pretty much any 8th grader going into high school that has exhibited early symptoms of falling into any of those categories is eligible for the program, and encouraged to join by their teachers and parents. Our goal is to get in there early and help these kids build strong personal characteristics and set them up for success, while also being there for them throughout the year.

What do you like/dislike about your job?

Barnes & Noble: I'm only a few days in, so I can't comment much. So far, my co-workers and managers have been super friendly and helpful. Which is a huge relief to me--this is my first job; I don't know what I'd do if I had to figure things out on my own. I've only worked for a little while and already I feel as if I can rely on several other people in the store to be there for me. My higher-ups are very keen on helping me and other new employees--I'm never worried about falling behind.

The benefits aren't anything to knock either. I get a 50% discount at Starbucks, a 30% discount on any in-store product, unlimited copies of advanced reader editions that the publisher sends in, and I get to borrow any hardcover book from the store.

Above all, I like working around books and working in Barnes & Noble itself. I've been a ravenous reader since the days I became literate (same time as mostly everyone here, fortunately :cute:). I go through a book or two every week. In the same way, I've been going to Barnes & Noble ever since I was a kid, the place has an allure and a mysticity to me, so working there is awesome. I was worried that beyond the surface level, it'd be much the same as any other retail job, and that the books would dissolve into mere product to be sold, but it hasn't happened so far. Even better, all my coworkers read often as well, so that's... awesome.

The only thing I can complain about (so far) is that working here is yet another thing to juggle amongst the millions of other projects I've got going. :cute:

Freshmen mentoring: We've been training for the past week and meet the freshmen next week. It's been a lot of fun. The other mentors are some of the best people my school has to offer--all around a fantastic group. I'm excited to get going and I'm really happy to be working on such a helpful cause.

What previous jobs/careers have you had?

None, boiiiiiiii

What job/career would you realistically like to have?

There are two things I want to do with my life: 1. write, and 2. make people's lives better. Which means in terms of career, I can't find a single one to settle on. Right now I'm shifting back and forth between journalist, diplomat, politician, etcetera etcetera.

I too worked in a chain bookshop (albeit as work experience), I feel the same way you did when I worked there. It's not easy to get a job there, particularly during the summer holiday. I remember you were in the same city as I was when I was working there, literally a mile away at the time.

1, I'm a Second Cook at a resteraunt but the more fitting term would be "Kitchen B*tch"

2. Meh it's a resteraunt job with crappy hours and pay, but it's better then other jobs. I do like the fact that I get a free meal most times I work.

3. I worked at a bar washing dishes and filling in as Second Cook sometimes.

4. I want to own a Diner with me as the head chef, an old lady as my waitress, some high school punk as my second cook, and a snot nose brat washing dishes.

hahahahhaa and fixed that statement just a tad bit.

What type of diner would it be? I have always enjoyed culinary arts but never even considered going into that type of business before. If I thought I had the "know how" I would actually be of the mind to at least attempt it.

Are you currently working?

Yes. I teach English Literature and History (I specialise in Australian Colonial/Modern History, 20th Century China, 20th Century Social and Cultural History)

What do you like/dislike about your job?

I like working with disadvantaged students and indigenous students. I believe strongly in equal, free and public institutions which are diverse in all aspects with mainstream classrooms.

I dislike standardised tests, education budget cuts, Catholic education, the Australian curriculum, dezoning of public schools, excessive parental involvement in schooling.

What previous jobs/careers have you had?

Mostly clerical and wait staff jobs through University.

What job/career would you realistically like to have?

I'd like to work with adults more (I have currently completed another degree to go down this path) and would like to work with migrant and refugee women in the future.

I wouldn't mind doing some University lecturing in the Education field part-time to keep myself up to date with current research and developments.

I'd like to do more research on learner diversity also.

Are you currently working?

I work in IT testing software.

What do you like/dislike about your job?

I love the variety in the work I do, relaxed working environment, getting to meet loads of great people, lots of free stuff, rewarding outcomes, people higher up in the company listen to and implement ideas from everyone.

I dislike the fact it's only an internship, so I have to leave soon. :P

What previous jobs/careers have you had?

Independent sales representative for AVON.

What job/career would you realistically like to have?

Ideally, I'd like to go back to this job after finishing university.
