If you don't know how to make a powerpoint creative, then we can't really help you since we're not your teachers and don't know what content is required

although common sense tells me to tell you to use pictures and a theme for it

Animations are not creative, they're distracting. Just a heads up. :greenhat:

Yes for the love of all that is holy do not use animations. If you do, keep it light and only when necessary, and don't make the fade-ins take hours. Choose a nice background and stick with it, so your powerpoint looks like it's one whole. Use a good readable font, do NOT USE COMIC SANS. Just make sure you can do the presentation, if your powerpoint is decent your presentation skills will do the rest.

Keep each bulletpoint short and concise. Nothing kills a presentation like a wall of text, making readers pay more attention to the reading exercise than the words coming out of your mouth.

Integrated video and audio are very convenient tools as long as you keep it simple. Just as with animations, you want to keep it sweet and simple, classy yet informative.

Stick with the same type of animation. Using 10 different types will make the audience subconsciously try to guess where the animation will appear next.

Use a readable font and colour that fits well with the background theme you end up choosing.

Writing on top of pictures should either be fantastic or avoided all together. There is no greater failiure than seeing black text that is impossible to read because they overlap with the colours found in the picture.

Always keep things simple.

Very important information should be highlighted discreetly. Personally, I just change the colour and underline the word, but there are plenty of ways to highlight them in a simple yet stylish manner.

Design the powerpoint with the intent of teaching the audience, rehearse what you want to say and try to refer to the powerpoint as much as possible as you speak to the audience.

Some tips I've learned after a few years making presentations...

KISS--Keep It Simple, Stupid. Look over your topic and figure out the key points of what you're saying. If you're making a presentation about a particular location and its history, include many pictures--especially older photographs. The really cool thing you can do is hunt around for pictures. Download them and then upload the version you have to Google Images. Do a search for higher-resolution versions. Nothing kills a cool picture like artifacts obscuring something interesting. For France, maybe you want to talk about historical sites--especially those outside the norm. Paris and Versailles is all well and good, but focusing on Saint-Nazaire, for example, might be more interesting.

Skip the animation, unless they fill a specific role. Do a quick slide transition (fade or slide--0.5s or less!) and skip the musical effects. Keep things consistent. Allow your classmates & teacher to focus on the topic. You're just there to explain what happened. The powerpoint is there to show them things you can't say (pictures) and remind them or focus them on what you have said (key words & phrases). No need to make big paragraphs of text all over the place. In fact, even if you do make a timeline, keep it simple. Only group events that you can say at least 3 sentences about. If you're taking questions, be ready to expand on the topics.
