reepicheep Posted May 15, 2013 Posted May 15, 2013 If you read my blog entry just now, you'll find I broke my tablet etc etc so I went looking for a phone right away to compensate. I wanted a WP8, preferably Nokia. Long story short, I found a Nokia Lumia 820 for 62 euros (new) and 12 euros a month for 100 minutes or texts, sans internet. Is this too good to be true? I also went to a brick and mortar store, and there the cheapest was 100 euros for the device plus 30 a month for the plan itself, which did include internet. Here's a link: http://www.smartphoneshop.nl/product-met-abonnement/221143/196831/nokia-lumia-820-zwart-tele2-smartmix-100-2-jaar.html?ref=69614&utm_source=kiesmobiel.nl&utm_medium=pricecomparison&utm_campaign=serviceplan It's in Dutch, fyi. Is this too good to be true? I'd go and buy it but I'm a little bit wary. The shop does belong to a group for webshops that are qualified enough, but it seems like far to good a deal considering the total price over 2 years is 380 euros which is only slightly more than the device itself. 20000_Posts Posted May 15, 2013 Posted May 15, 2013 The phone is free on contract in the States. Wouldn't call it a too good to be true deal, seems pretty good though. Quote
Bob-sama Posted May 15, 2013 Posted May 15, 2013 A plan like that would be--you'll get shizzleloads of charges for data. You have to watch out for the bargain basement plans--many have a hefty data cost attached. You can't rely upon WiFi either I've found--since most places now password-protect their connections. Quote

I get that, but WiFi isn't an issue generally. At home and uni I have good coverage, and in trains I do too, so I'm not going to need data. Anyway, it looks good, probably will go for it. Thanks guys. Quote
20000_Posts Posted May 15, 2013 Posted May 15, 2013 Yea I use only wifi, thinking of getting a new blackberry q10 to use just wifi and texting. Data plans are just an extra convenience, not worth my money yet. Quote

I had the old BB Bold 9000 that thing was a powerhouse. Blackberry is massive, still, in business sectors especially in Canada. They'll be okay. :) Quote

Still, rather a big lack of apps seems like a major negative if you care about that sort of thing. Quote

I've been looking for a phone that excels as just a phone. My current phone locks up during phone calls. :'( Quote

I'm considering dumping my iPhone for a keyboard phone and using my Nexus 7. Quote

I'm considering dumping my iPhone for a keyboard phone and using my Nexus 7. I've considered it, but I guess I've worded what I need poorly. Phone quality, battery life, camera, ease of use/speed are what I really require. When I'm on the go I don't really keep my nexus 7 with me, and being able to check up on things with wifi is nice. Feature phones have the battery life and call quality (eh kinda), but menus are often slow and convoluted and there's little option for any Internet capability. Oh and the cameras are always bad.
